    Pinch with 2 vise grips instead of 1, cut the line between the two vise grips, then direct whichever side into a container. Viola, no gas spillage.

    • @toolmaker5150
      @toolmaker5150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, I though that also. Easier said than done, the lines will be too short to direct anywhere without pinching.

    • @DarthVTwin
      @DarthVTwin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@toolmaker5150 it's how I always do it, it always works, just don't cut in the centre, put the vise grips as close to outlets as possible and cut closest to one vise grip as possible. leaves plenty of line on one side.

      Excellent idea!! I was trying to think of something to make it easier.
      I wonder if any one has put a T fitting with a petcock valve or something?

    Thanks for this post! I can't say I had the same luck slipping the drain hose onto the crossover nipple without spilling a "bit more" gas but got it done. Some other valuable things shown that I was not aware of so this was timely!! Thanks again!

    Nice job guys. I would go ahead and get some line clamps...they are also cheap, and you won't tear up your lines with the locking pliers. I've been using the 4 piece set from Harbor Freight and they work real good. Cost about 6 bucks with a coupon.

    First off, thanks for the video. I need to drain my tank this winter, got some old fuel in it I wanna get out. My question is, in replacing this crossover line do I need to use high pressure hose since this is an FI system or can I use regular hose here? Thanks again.

    • @sjeverett75

      That line is just fuel line. Its not under any real pressure like the lines going from fuel pump to injectiors are.

  • @ludditeneaderthal
    @ludditeneaderthal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Use a vacuum fitting cap on the vent nipple and you'll dribble less fuel when you pull the line off the balance line nip. Then remove the vac cap when your drain line is hooked up. Vac caps are on the dorman "help" rack in pretty much every auto parts store in the USA...

    It might be a good idea to mention that some possibly older bikes like my 03 Fat Boy has 5/16" fuel lines instead of 1/4" as mentioned in the video. I had to cut my original lines off of the nipples and
    fuel went everywhere since 1/4" fuel lines won't fit . Just saying. Love your videos.

    No need to spill fuel. There are other options available for this job. You can use 2 clamps, then cut the line in the middle, between the clamps and connect to a drain hose. Then release the clamp on the line with the drain , or leave it clamped but make sure everything is sealed. Or use a big funnel and disconnect the fuel hose and drain everything from the tank. Or get a piece of tubing and make a siphone.

    1:28 Q about the vent line. I want to get a longer vent line for my Dyna tank lift. I can't find anywhere similar vent hose but longer, any recommendations ? Shall I use similar size fuel hose ?

      Your local auto repair shop should be able to get you vent tubing. Your idea to use similar sized fuel line would also work.

    How about getting another quick release connector attached to a length of hose? Then remove the existing one that feeds fuel to the engine, and attach the one attached to a length of hose and drain the tank that way? I hope how I explained that is clear.

    Great video, I've been trying to find a vid that explains how to lift my tank on my 2012 FXDWG to check out my electrical. Having a problem with a short. My running lights and fuel gauge stopped working. Sometimes (Once every 40 times) when I turn my ignition switch on they all magically work. until I sit on the bike and move the steering column. I would check the switch first but don't have a spanning tool and the fact that movement of the column make is go off I seriously doubt that's the issue (And yes I checked the bulbs)

    Great video! I wish I would have had this 4 weeks ago when I pulled my tank off. I did install a dual check valve connector for the next I remove the tank. I drain the tank with a pump from the top, either hand pump or 12v electric, make sure petcock is off drain from petcock into container , then I use a large plastic funnel with hose to catch gas pinch hose pull one side drain then other side same thing. Allow the tank to evaporate. Use wet vac take 3 ft piece of rubber hose wrap with foam or rags stick in vac hose as a reducer, get as much junk out you as you can. Replace all hoses with new and petcock off fill with as many gallons of apple cider vinegar as tank will hold to the top and leave with caps off for a couple days. Drain from petcock. When empty remove petcock and clean. Be sure it is not clogged. Pull all hoses and check nipples for obstruction. Check all nipples with a wire. Do the wet vac process again. Replace all hoses and petcock. Fill tank to top with diesel fuel to the top and leave for a couple days. Drain completely and fill with the gas you normally use. You might have to clean the carb but you should be good.
