  • Mountain hare photography in the Cairngorms National Park with Corey Hunter-Mitchell and Rob Moore as well as footage from a snowy trip last year to the same location with John Barrass 🐇
    🐾 Please subscribe to see more of my videos bit.ly/2RXfyUa 👍 I've got loads of exciting nature photography trips and projects with the wildlife camera coming up 😊
    February 2023: I met up with Corey Hunter-Mitchell and Rob Moore as part of their Scottish wildlife photography adventure and we spent a great day up the hill with the hares. There were plenty of hares but not very much snow! I was using the awesome Nikon Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S lens with the 1.4x teleconverter on my Nikon Z9.
    February 2022: The footage from this trip with John Barrass was supposed to be my first vlog with the Z9, but the weather conditions made vlogging practically impossible! The harsh conditions did allow some really nice video and images of the hares though, so I was happy to add that in as a little reel in this vlog!

    Brilliant video, Geoff. Great to see the contrast between snowy 2022 and snowless 2023.

      Thanks Victor :) Yeah, it was a big difference, but also the week before we went this year there was a lot of snow, so it's a total lottery!

    Loved your trip and video of the hares. You did well to compare the trip in the snow with the grassy ones. Both are fab. Well done. I have been shooting wild Irish hares in the Burren in Co. Clare this month and loving watching them in the very early mornings.

    Fantastic, great to see more photos from you. Interesting the difference in the coloration of their ears, especially between the two winters😊

      Thanks very much, glad you liked it :) Yeah, there's a lot of colour variation, and it gets even more in the spring when they all change colour (at sligthly different times)

    Really nice video, if you were using the 400 +tc, why not use 500pf for better reach and quality at that focal length? (video tip, could mute the wind noise for the slideshow) Keep up the good work!

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks very much :) Basically there is a trade-off and I know the 500mm pf is sharper than the 400mm f/4.5 and TC1.4x, but I wanted to reduce the faff of two systems and go Z-mount only... Just having Z lenses and not having to think about adapters or have two sets of TCs has been worth the small sacrifice in IQ, and to be honest the AF speed and accuracy does feel better on the native lens even with the TC...
      I did a bunch of testing to reach my conclusions here: th-cam.com/video/12WIJTqRqzk/w-d-xo.html

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      PS. The inclusion of the wind noise was intentional for 'atmosphere' but I guess it didn't work for you!

  • @brucecrossan2284

    Always enjoy your videos Geoff. Any regrets selling the 500mm PF? It is sharper in the centre than the 400mm. . . especially with the 1.4x on the 400mm. . but is it a noticeable difference in the real world?

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Bruce, no, no regrets whatsoever! It's great and there's really no diffference in real world use, even with the teleconverter, which I use a lot. I reckon the teleconverters are a really big win for Z-mount as they're so much better / sharper than the F-mount ones ever were!

    Virtually a night and day situation with regards to the weather. Certainly a lot easier for the 2023 trip, better footage and shots. Who's the complete idiot doing snow angel's on the slope? Good compilation video Geoff.

    • @GeoffCooper
      @GeoffCooper  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, massive difference, and a lot easier to move about on the hill! Would have liked more dynamic shots like that hare that ran right past us in the snow, but that's not how it panned out... next time..!
      Hehe, thought you'd appreciate the snow angel shot so it had to make it into the final edit somewhere :D
