Love to see you play XIV. This game made my sad, little life a little bit better almost 2 years ago. Can't wait what the future holds for us.
I imagine this is an april fools but this game is definitely an experience. The story starts slow but is well worth the payoff. Unlike wow you're not really doing a whole lot of combat, especially early on, and more just learning about the world and its characters. So the game is definitely offputting for people who don't care about story and just want to grind though. The raids and trials are also a lot of fun, and the community is one of the best out there.
Yeah they worked on properly setting up the story's base ideas and core in ARR, which forms the foundation from which ever expansion shines and builds on towards the next, shining brighter and brighter. WoW had me convinced since vanilla that you just had to accept that MMO's werent a good medium for story telling and you had to overlook that to accept what bits you could.
FFXIV's story telling and nuance blew that notion apart completely.
@@tenjenk The original Secret World told an AMAZING story, and did it from 3 different PoV. The new Secret World is complete crap though.
Vanguard had a great story but the marketing sucked...so the MMO died out quick.

The story of this game is really something special. It might start very slow and has a lot of exposition and World building, but once it gets going, it gets going and never stops, going to places I would have never expected an MMO... Or ANY game to take me. Both Story and Location-wise. It is the best story I ever experienced in any kind of media.
I highly recommend everyone to play the free trial to INCLUDING Heavensward. Especially the beginning can be slow, but Heavensward will get you. This is where it starts getting really really amazing. And then it just keeps going and going for 3 more expansions with a 4th to come next year.

Even playing alone, sometimes bunny girls just show up to flirt/dance/pet you and then leave. Especially if youre a shortish race like lalafell, midlander hyur, or female au ra.

I hope you continue to play, it is worth it; trust! You start out as a humble adventurer, and as the story progresses, so too does your character, it feels like a true mmo in that sense ♥
You'll get a lot more spells past lvl 50-60 ish, but the start is kind of slow. You just gotta keep playin'!

@@SparkShadow212 Most of the ones worth playing are sub based, or at least cost money to buy into (GW2). F2P MMOs always cost you far more money than sub based ones if you want to compete at endgame or have nice fashion as a general rule.

As someone that played WoW since the closed beta, up until FFXIV was released and experiencing the tragedy of this game, known as FFXIV 1.0, and then continuing to A Realm Reborn... this game is amazing. It's everything I wanted in an MMO. Characters that are enticing, a story that keeps you wanting to know more, enjoyable combat, and a learning system that isn't too difficult, but challenging enough to try and master. The graphics are always what I wanted, having the fantasy style of WoW, and the environment style of other games, like FFXI Online, and Black Desert Online. But having the classic quest style, mixed with challenging but not ridiculous dungeons, that you might need to take literal days to learn and get thru.
I started my journey into A Realm Reborn as a lancer, then becoming a Dragoon at level 30, then expanding my skills to other classes. I'm now a level 90 Samurai main class, and still find myself going back to Dragoon, and various others jobs, when I want to play something different. All and all, I hope you find FFXIV as enjoyable, and fulfilling as many of us ex-WoW player have.

Your video showed up in my feed today. Great first video for a new player and WOW player. I am also a WOW player (since BC) and now sub to both. FF14 ARR really is like training wheels for ppl who have never played an mmo. Are the quests slow, sometimes, but this is all world building for a story that spans 10 years. So yes, it’s going to drag at times. But the payoff in storytelling is wonderful. If you want to keep playing then ignore the nay-sayers and just keep playing. FF14 players will watch your videos and your stream because we love to experience and share the story with other new players. And the community is far superior as a whole to other mmo communities that I have been a part of. Hope to see more content for you in FF14! And welcome to Eorzea.

Great game, saying this as a very long time MMO player, including WoW, among many others. Story in FF14 starts calmly, but gets bigger and bigger as you move through it, with also each expansion that you play, more complex, deeper and definitely interesting. FF14 is a great game, well worth playing.
The biggest culture shock for me was realizing that FFXIV didnt make old content systems defunct or remove them entirely. You can still do stuff from old expansions and there are even entire communities in the game still dedicated to them. its beyond just being able to revisit old raids and bosses, there are numerous other types of content systems they make sure to maintain or update to keep functional when its no longer "current". Its something which is hard to properly express to newer players from other mmos, a lot dont get it exactly until FFXIV hooks into them when they experience it.
There are two other big culture shocks, other mmo players need to get over. One is ofcourse, the fact FFXIV is a properly numbered final fantasy game. You are playing a story based rpg first and mmo second. You play it with a god of war or single player game mindset. The other is that the entire dev design philosophy from the start has always been to make content with a definitive END to it. 95% of the content systems have a conclusion so you can take a break from the game. Even the head dev said the entire point is to take breaks, play other games, go outside, and come back when theres an update whenever you want. For those who do want endless cycle content there are a few content systems based on that, but they are not the focus of the game and their philosophy is entrenched in everything to do with the game. Thing is because they dont make old content defunct or remove it, there is just so much to do in the game if you give it a chance and not be locked in your own head seeking something from other games that you already internally hate and burnt yourself out on.
One more thing, with the side raids, the trials, alliance and raid story lines from ARR and each expansion are great stories and have fantastic fights which tie into the MSQ and give you a deeper understanding of things that are going on in the MSQ. When i realized this, i did them when the moment they were available in serial order each expansion. They cause unique responses or dialogue options when you encounter characters or scenario's related to them. Calling them "optional side content" is a misnomer, i heavily recommend doing them when they were intended. The game is journey focused.
I just started ff14 like two weeks ago, but I picked monk as my starter, and I do love it.
You should do the hatching tide quest for the tonberry outfit.

Welcome to Eth…I mean, Hydaelyn! You will really enjoy the game! The base game and 2.x Patches are a slow-burner for its story but it lays the fundamentals for the lore later on. I highly recommend buying the Complete Edition later on once you beat the Heavensward Patches. I’ve been playing since 1.0 early access in September 20th, 2010. So I’m a Legacy player and I’ve been subscribed since. You won’t regret this game!
Get 1 job to max but unlock the rest. You’ll get exp bonuses for your other jobs/classes later on. Also unlock crafting and gathering and do them in your spare time, as you can save money making your own gear.
I’m a Ninja main. All of my jobs besides Blue Mage are past Lv80. My Ninja is at Lv90. I’m a female Wildwood Elezen.
What is that? That is a tonberry. You can do the holiday events for a limited time and it's always new things at every event.
Tried ff14 during classic wow. Played classic and raided (u know only log on during raid nights) and slowly got in to ff14. Finished Classic (stoped after we where done with TBC). Now full time FF14... looking back... as you probably will and realizing while I played original wow TBC or wow Wotlk the FF14 players enjoyed thier expantions (won't spoil). Looking back at it I wish I knew how good FF14 was way way earlier. Just ask yourself... when u get to some of the crazy story momments in ff14 "Wait... what was I playing when this was current?" Like what year it was... Enjoy the journy man!

so ive been trying wow.....is it suppose to be meaningless quests? lol where are the main story quests?
There are main story quests. they are the explanation marks with the not round shape more like a squared off version of quest markers
its not like WoW where you have to do every basic quest. You can skip (most) of the brown ! quests. The one in towns are mainly for local lore and flavor. The main story quests are the ones with the gold firey symbol and provide more than enough XP to level your class, hell you might even need to keep another class on your character on the side to pour XP into it because you might overlevel otherwise. Blue Quests unlock content.
Also "side raid content" for each expansion is quite a misnomer. They're fantastic experiences which expand the lore of the game and and tie into the MSQ later, letting you have a deeper understanding of whats going on and even having unique responses with NPCs related to it who appear in the MSQ or in later non-msq content.

I really just prefer the character designs in FF14 more than WoW which is why I have no desire to return to playing WoW.

Downloaded ff14 and skipped everything. Currently doing all the previous raids and encounters. Great MMO, but man is there ZERO reason to do savage content besides maybe one extra cutscene. Some classes are fun and others are for people with severe ADHD. Outside of savage content, the raids are pretty much brain dead and I really wish there was an in between (LFR is dungeon finder and savage is Mythic Archimonde with LFR players). Glamor and RP is the true end game, but god forbid you play a race that can't wear hats.
FFXIV is such a nice game. It really is underrated as hell, even tho its slowly getting bigger and bigger. Espacially people that enjoy the story to at least lv70 will never leave the game again i think. Shadowbringers is such an amazing story with a really nicely designed map and most of the gamedesign issues fixed. At that point you will feel like this is going to be the best mmorpg you ever played. And when you finished endwalker you will cry like hell and then realize that this was the end of the story (for now). But there ist so much endgame content to do and the developers are giving small story upgrades every few weeks ...
If you play this game to the finish line i bet you will not regret it and maybe even stay in eorzea for ever. At least for me its what it did. I quit every mmo i played before after playing FFXIV.

My friend forced me to play ff, but after talking to “3 random npcs that you need to find in a red circle” for like 80+ lvls I just gave up, I did played on Balmung which is the biggest rp server in ff and the rp part in Ul’dah was really fun. Big - for gameplay, Big + for community
I forced myself to play it for 3 addons because of a friend. Every minute was painful and wasted. I was craving WoW so hard but he already invested so much into FF that he didn't wanna get another paying mmo..
Bro I just wasted my life trying to enjoy it.
Nothing made fun to me. NOTHING.
The quests are the most boring fetch quests imaginable.
Every somewhat cool quest is solo instanced content.
Every class rota is press 1 then 2 then 3 repeat.
You deal no dmg.
Gear makes no difference.
Materia doesn't even add 0.1% more dmg/heal.
Literally every aspect of the game made me feel miserable.
Kiting? You don't do that.
Open world content? I mean there is no open world.
Auction house you dont need because every quest gives you appropriate level gear.
And don't make me talk about pvp with that spell batching of 1000ms on every cast.
@@smashenYT You played 3 addons and didn't even understand the basics? You really wasted your time. The game is not for everyone and especially before shadowbringers, classes feel bad and slow, quests are repetitive and in many stages hard to even understand because of all the fancy words they use.
It has a lot of problems, but you are on a wow classic channel..
You are killing wolfs and boars for 60 level, run around and click through quests as if its a cookie clicker.. Now lets compare WoW Classic Endgame rotation with FF14 early game rotation, which is fair enough, since both are old expansions. WOW: 111111111111111(maybe 2) FF14: 123123(maybe a button ever 30-60 seconds). Now I really see the excitement of WoW, because wow has so low cooldowns, that you can press a single button much faster, while FF14 bores you with pressing buttons in the right order instead of mashing.
Gear is pure gamble, where you see the dumbest player get the best gear. Gear is just a progression system to unlock content in FF14, it's not supposed to powerspike you into oblivion. Materia is for endgame min maxing to smooth out caps, not to double your stats, but that is pretty much irrelevant for you since you never actually did recent content.
Open World content, just different than wow. Auctionhouse for low level gear... why.. FF14 has a huge crafting system, that is enough for some people to play the game for, without even being interested in any of the combat. The marketboard is like WoW Classic for consumes and high end crafted gear,, housing items, glamour etc etc.
And your spell batching.. you mean snapshotting? Most reassuring thing in PvE content, PvP came after so it might not fit the theme, but this also just sounds like badly educated.
My diagnosis: WoW Brain that probably skipped and rushed through 3 expansions in a few days looking for the same feeling he got from killing 10 boars in durotar. Instead of trying to play the game, trying to play like WoW and hope to get the same results in fun. I pity your friend having to deal with such a wow andy, that still has to deal with wow addiction even in other games. WoW Brain is the single reason people can't enjoy FF14 or other MMOs in general. WoW has it's own shit to deal with, you are just so used to the good stuff in WoW, that the bad became irrelevant. Like PvP became pretty much irrelevant for most of the community, because it was never a main part of the game for the longest time. Endgame Raiding became much more fun and enjoyable in FF14 than I ever had in WoW Classic or Retail, but that you will never experience.

@@smashenYT you approached it with the wrong mentality. Before being an mmo it is first and foremost a properly numbered final fantasy game. You approach it like you're starting up a god of war game, not wow. You just never broke out of the mental prison you put yourself in. Blind to the richness that was right there. All this stuff is you just expecting wow from an entirely different game both in mentality and approach by the devs and players. Its like listening to someone say the same thing after playing God of war, the things you are listing are things it abhors.
