  • In this video I review and walk though Orchestral Tools' epic sample library Metropolis Ark 1, as well as host an inside look and breakdown of "Into the Nebula", the official demo I composed for this library. I also showcase some of my favorite patches and give an overview of each section of the library in an effort to share what I believe are some particular strengths of these instruments.

    Loved the video and the Ark sounds great. I don't even have an orchestra library and learning the process of orchestrating.I'm 74 years young and excited to see if I can do this. There are a lot of libraries and they all have their great, ok and so-so features. But I like this type of music. Don't know if you'll be able to use this in a documentary, but doors are opened. Any suggestions to start out. I wish I knew what you already know, but I'm doing my best. thank you so much for reading my comment,, Benjamin.

    I was listening to your demos on the Orchestral Tools website and loved them. To me this piece feels so well put together in terms of melodie, arrangement and instrumentation - it's just so satisfying to listen to. And it feels you really made the library shine. Awesome. :)

      I have a question. I recently got MA 1 (SINE) and for some reason, legato isn´t working in high strings. It only can be activated in the first 2 articulations:Sus Octaves +Legato and Sus Octaves. In any other intrumenta I´m able to activate legatos in sustains and other long articulations but in high strings is not possible. Is it like that or a malfunction? Thanks

    Thank you for this breakdown, really helpful to get a good idea of what you're getting. Would you recommend his over Spitfire's BBC Pro or core?
    Cheers!

    • @BenjaminBotkin
      @BenjaminBotkin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks! I do not have either of the Spitfire products you mention. However, I don't think these libraries really serve the same purpose. The BBC products you mention are intended, from what I can tell, to basically cover your standard orchestral needs. Metropolis Ark 1 is a pretty focused library on offering unconventional ensemble collections with a dynamic range between approx mf and fff. It is intended to BIG, EPIC, LOUD music. So it is definitely a specialized library, and is a product that I would use in addition to whatever library/libraries are covering my bread-and-butter orchestral sounds.

    I've been a fan of your work for some time now. Enjoyed your analysis-discussion. Country pastor hobbiest here. I try to apply virtual orchestration in our church setting. I've picked up Saga, your work with Greg Howlett and a young tenor Craig. Thanks for sharing. Perspective-wise, I'd like to focus on writing for my Savior, and glad there is an eternity to do so. Again, love watching your work

    35:37 How did you do those string rips, where strings sort of gradually "leap" into another note? What are those called and how can I do them??

    • @BenjaminBotkin
      @BenjaminBotkin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm just using the High Strings Legato Octaves patch and playing quick 3-4 note runs on my keyboard.

      @@BenjaminBotkin Ahh thank you! Always noticed that technique in film music but never knew how to implement it into music of my own. I actually didn't think it was possible to do in a DAW until now.

    Thanks for the video gentleman. I have a question for you.
    1. How would you compare Metropolis Ark 1 vs Metropolis Ark 4, in terms of sound quality and usage. Do they sound similar?!
    Would be much happier to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

    • @BenjaminBotkin
      @BenjaminBotkin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Joshua! I don't have Ark 4 , so I'm afraid I can't speak on the differences any better than you can by listening to comparison demos and videos. Thanks for the comment!

    I have a big problem with the Metropolis time and delay of notes, I can't get the notes to sound in tempo with the rest of the instruments ... I think that not only is the long attack of the notes, there is a synchronization problem. I have tried to adjust with TRACK COMPENSATION, but without finding an exact number of ms, can anybody tell me? ... also I think it is not the same for all articulations, a headache, any suggestions?????

    • @-Meric-
