An interesting note on Colorado-TCU after spending some more time on rewatch: TCU spent way too much of that game in man coverage. Schematically, what Colorado is running is essentially an air raid system. There are frequently 5-6 man protections, with wide splits to the receivers. The result is that it leaves the DBs with a lot of grass to cover, but it makes it hard to block. The scheme is designed with a lot of crossers and reads against the blitz (which were hit twice for big TDs to the RB). To be able to pressure this scheme effectively, you want to run zone. This is very similar to what happened with LSU in 2021 in their opener vs Miss State, where Bo Pelini insisted on running almost exclusively man coverage and Mike Leach picked him apart. This may have been a result of having minimal film, but the lack of an adjustment here was definitely fatal to TCU's defense. I'll give a shoutout to another channel and link his analysis (which is excellent) - if you pay attention, I believe every throw made in this film is throwing to a player in man coverage. The strength of the 3-3-5 is that it should provide a heavy umbrella where deep shot opportunities are rare. But due to poor safety play, zero pass rush, and mediocre CB play they frequently had guys trying to cover open grass way downfield. Combine that with blitz-beaters to a fast RB and it was a recipe for disaster that may have been more self-inflicted than is currently appreciated: th-cam.com/video/TUr8bRwXUtQ/w-d-xo.html
Shedur Sanders is an NFL caliber QB. I know you had previously said if he was just a random FCS QB everyone wouldn't be so hyped up on him but do remember that he was a high four star recruit. Highly unusual for such a highly rated player to go to the FCS so I'm not sure your point was completely relevant.
@@JesseEubanks In fact 247 even had him as a 4 star QB ranked the number 14 pocket passer and then dropped his ranking when he committed to an HBCU. That should tell you everything you need to know about 247 recruiting rankings.
Deon was spitting when he said some people just can't accept this team being good. Shedur showed off incredible arm talent and there are still people trying to deny his talent.
@@MH-0101recruiting rankings shift for a ton of rational reasons. There are plenty of recruiting myths like the “Bama bump”, for instance. 247sports rankings are far more accurate than not, and the burden of proof is on you to prove the conspiratorial stuff with actual substance.
Kudos to Colorado and Sanders (both of them) for being better prepared that I thought anyone could be after so many transfers. Great job. However, they are not an elite team and that will be evident in the coming weeks.
It’s been driving me nuts that the media are saying “Colorado beat the team that played in the Natty last year!” That is disingenuous nonsense. Even RG3 put out that trash and he should know better.
So I'll start with a disclaimer: awesome win for CU. They deserve all the accolades for an incredible performance. HOWEVER. I always take week 1 upsets with a grain of salt because of pre-season rankings. So did they knock off a #17 ranked team as an underdog? Yes. Was that #17 rank based off pre-season ranking which has 5-6 interchangeable teams at the top and the rest are crap shoots? Also yes. Would this win mean a lot more 8 weeks from now? Yes. Does it discount how awesome the win is for Colorado if TCU goes on to be bad this season? No. But is it reasonable to assume the reason they were able to put up such a showing is that TCU is no where close to the 17th best team in CFB? Yeah I think so. And ultimately that's where I stand on this. If TCU goes on to be great with one blemish in Week 1, Colorado gets to claim that all day long. If TCU is mediocre like I think they will be, then yeah it's still a great win, but not quite as impressive as the pre-season rankings would have you think.
I want Colorado to go undefeated so they get to play a real team in the playoffs and get rocked by 50+ points. I love fake hype. They’re average at best.
If they went undefeated in a PAC-12 that has USC, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and even Oregon State, then they wouldn't be average-at-best, lol. Colorado schedule is brutal.
COL -3 Beleive in what you believe in. Get it how you live. Deion FBS home opener after TCU win. Be as analytical as you want. But betting against Colorado here is a reach. Regardless of outcome. Saying "we don't know" after week 1 isn't moving goalposts. And much of this video was saying that moving the goalpost from "can Deion make a bowl?" to "is Colorado a top-15 team?" IS moving goalposts and really unfair to the situation Deion inherited.
Not to take away from Colorado but TCU didnt bring their defense out of the lockerroom! Actually it was a shootout all the way! Not much defense on either side!
they ran the ball 34 times for 55 yards that 510 passing isn't going to sustain every week I got them going 5-4 and that's where I had them going when Prime got hired
We said they were deserving, not good, at the time. Bama was not that good or deserving themselves. But the important part is that this TCU team is a total rebuild from last year's team - they had 8 starters get drafted, including the #1 player at all skill positions and defensive starters at every level. Of their top-6 WRs in the Colorado game, 5 of those receivers were transfers in their first start for TCU. The only guy they retained was their #5 receiver from last year. It's a *total* rebuild at TCU.
@@CollegeFootballNerds why does ESPN keep mentioning TCU was in the natty last year? This is why we can't have these "most deserving" when Bama would have been better. Now people are calling for Sanders Heisman because he is beating the team that was playing for a national championship game. Would the same situation happen if Bama got it? Naw
@CollegeFootballNerds Bama didn't fall off 😉 which is my whole point about a "most deserving system", it leads to inaccurate depictions of the game, which is the whole focus of this channel
Colorado will now be a legit transfer destination for players looking for a new home. They will now get consideration from more top recruits who wasn't giving them real consideration. Do look for Coach Prime to flip some recruits who are already committed to other Power-5 schools 🏈😮😮😮😮😮😮
I've been yelled at by several "Colorado fans" on the internet already. I wasn't really invested in them losing before, but I am now. I didn't get a chance to see enough of the game to form my own opinion on them, but I'll be hoping they lose soon here, because I don't know if I can stand a full season of the hype/ trash talking.
Tbh we've run into it, too. There are a lot of bandwagon Colorado fans right now that aren't very objective or understanding of the bigger picture. I think there's a very, very high chance that TCU is a rather bad team in 2023, for example. That the Nebraska line only moved a field goal, after losing to Minn, is quite telling. Vegas doesn't think their initial impressions of Colorado as compared to Nebraska were all that off.

Colorado could become a real power, but for now I’ll treat their big win over tcu the same way I treat every “big win” over tcu the last decade
Offensive and Defensive lines aren't good enough to be a real power but can still be a much better season than the 3.5 wins vegas clocked them at.
