    This was an interesting video to make. Imagine if I took 7 of the 10 wins, kept one close loss, and made a 1 hour video, I could even title it "HIGHEST WINRATE DECK IN TIMELESS". A lot of people would think this deck is amazing. Is that the right thing to do? I can tell you it works better for TH-cam. I've done that for years. What do you think?

      Very True!

    • @clarab6092
      @clarab6092 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Totally true. I've noticed there are certain times when certain decks work for me. Sometimes, no deck works at all and I just lose 70% of the time with any kind of deck. Sometimes aggro takes me up 3 tiers easily, sometimes control does. And then there always comes the point after climbing the ladder like crazy that I start losing like crazy. By now, once I lose 3 games in a row after having a super good run, I just close the game and continue playing the next day because I know that if I continue playing, I'll just end up losing all the progress I made, falling back to a 50% win rate. Or I'll try with a different deck and if that doesn't fix it, I continue the next day. Take what you have and stop going for more. That's actually a super helpful strategy to climb more consistently. Once you notice that you go into a losing streak, stop playing and start again another day. I don't know why it works, but it does. Also, the first game after entering a new tier is always a loss. I think it happened only a handful of times that I entered a new tier and won.

      @l0lan00b3 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah you’re not alone. You might be getting streaked on but remember the won winning isn’t the same player and is probably losing every other game too lol

  • @railander

    One problem could be that you are not a burn/aggro player and don't always make the best decision, you tend to think like a control player. Not to mention how many bad hands you kept. Also, the mana base of this deck don't look very good.

      @thomasbrauer5538 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@marioalcantara7156 he is more used to control mirrors and long games, where every single extra card is super important. A single extra card on average by turn 8 can be as much as a 10% difference in win rate which turns a 55% deck into a 45% deck. Unfortunately he is applying this thinking to a 4-5 turn game which means one or both players usually still has plenty of cards when the game ends.

    With the right combination of fetch lands, hand smoother gets dumb brain and anything works. After that it's just recreating power creep strategies from yugioh. 2 removal per starting hand with around 50% draw ratio(handtraps), and everything but major engine creatures create tempo even if removed. Tempo got really fast so in this meta things like 3 mana removal are too slow and expensive. Going first became a very important part of meta last few months, and exiling is now useful.

  • @krimhorn

    So the 1-land keep: With 16 hits and 8 looks you only have a 68% probability of hitting a second land. The hand-smoothing algorithm in Bo1 only provides a probability of getting the average distribution of lands and spells. A 7-look 2-land hand is only 60% to have one in the opening so, yeah, don't keep a 1-land hand. The curve on this deck is very low but it's centered around multi-spelling and getting extra value off of the Eidolon triggers so if you keep a 2-lander you can at least start pushing through extra damage and bonus looks at your third land but if you're stuck on one land then, as we see in the video, it's really difficult to get that momentum the deck needs.

    Watching you win vs lose doesn't matter to me nearly as much as whether you're playing a deck I'd enjoy. However, the games I really don't care to see are the ones where one side is massively mana screwed. Even the sweetness of beating mono-red is dulled if they've been stuck on 1-2 mana all game.

    Do people like this format? It seems kind of like you ignore your opponent the whole time and win before they do, which is very reminiscent of yugioh. Can't say I personally would enjoy it, my favorite part of magic is interacting as much as I can

    • @JaborWithaY
      @JaborWithaY 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "Ignore your opponent and try to win before they do" is best-of-1 in a nutshell - it's far easier to proactively execute your gameplan than it is to be prepared to interact with every possible gameplan your opponent can bring, and that gets amplified the more powerful the format is.
      best-of-3 Timeless is fantastic and a lot more interactive than the best-of-1 queue, but it's not really part of CGB's channel identity so you won't see it here.

    • @guillermolopez6130
      @guillermolopez6130 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JaborWithaY I would disagree. My personal approach to bo1 is prepare for your big match ups (monored/monoblack) as much as you can so you can grind thru. I think monored/monoblack certainly take the "throw stuff at your opponent and win" path, but if you play anything else, you have to try and "predict the weather" so to speak. I can see bo3 for Timeless being a lot more nuanced tho, I can see how it would be more strategic and enjoyable.

    Mtg needa to fix the play vs draw.
    On the draw alot of the time i feel like the game is over with the hand smoother fixing bo1 especially.

      I think more "when this creature blocks" abilities, everything feels like an attacking trigger so who ever goes first usually attacks first so the snowball happens.
      Also more enter the battlefield if opponent has more life or more lands you get more benefit.

    I wonder why you would have pain lands in this two-color deck. They don't do anything but kill you. In every case just having a basic would be better.
    Oh, and that 40% loss rate could be everyone playing this at plat or higher and all the wins are back in bronze.

    I was playing mono green field titan on day one, smashed my way to mythic fast, something like 24-3 record on day one. Now everyone has caught on. As far as the untapped GG winrates you have to remember thats saying 63% of people that use the Program won with that deck per game. Now assume like maybe 5% of Arena players use that program. You cant bell curve those stats out it dont work that way.
    TLDR play what works for you, yes top deck lists are good to build off of, but dont take them as the whole truth.

    If you are not playing a turn 2 win combo in timeless, you are doing it wrong.
