I think Seth speaking the worst into existence is my favorite long-running joke. Things like "Well as long as they don't have a second bowmasters, we should be okay" followed by the opponent immedietly playing the second bowmasters. The best is when Seth has to stop and think for a moment, and asks "Is there a card that saves our opponent?" and then comes up with some ridiculous scenario like "Okay, if they top deck exactly X card, and then spin into Y card, and then if they're holding Z card, otherwise I think we win." And then the opponent plays the prophesied cards
The one thing I always hate about this build is the transform of Kumano Faces Kakkazan completely negates the benefit of Searing Blood, as any creature that is killed gets exiled and thus doesn't go to the graveyard to trigger the 3 damage from Searing Blood. So now you have an RR spell that deals 2 damage, and that's not as good.
I honestly think it’s one of those necessary evil problems, because they’re both such good cards in the deck that feel bad to exclude, and honestly I don’t think that the nonbo is that common considering the low toughness of KFK’s backside
The fact that lightning bolt is a rare is crazy. Same with brainstorm
The strixhaven special cards were a mess for arena. Thankfully other sets seem to be trending away from that (I know enchanting tales still has some questionable rarity calls, but those were either rare to mythic or the lack of a downgrade to uncommon)
And Dark Ritual and Counterspell..
it at rare is very important for limited honestly, uncommon archives were way too common for bolt to exist in that field.
@@Atmapalazzo lighting bolt and brainstorm would have been obscene in Strixhaven limited if they were commons.
@@TheEvolver311 lmao. Brainstorm is worse than opt or consider unless you put in the work to make it better. It would have been a bad cantrip at Common in limited.
Timeless was the best thing to happen to arena since launch.
Turns out, letting people use their cards is a good idea
Now if they would just rare shift down cards like lightning bolt I would start playing.
@@HasBrucesee, wizards is emboldened by people like me who barely put any money into arena and then as soon as khans drops they drop 200 bucks just to get fetches and enough rares for staples. I should lead by example but I am weak for modern/legacy-esque gameplay and I haven't played paper in years :(
@Matthill121 that is the problem, I have them all in paper and refuse to pay more money into arena. If only codes came in real packs like pokemon.
@@Matthill121hey man don't feel bad. There is a very high chance, like over 100% chance, that if the cards that I use to build my Modern decks became available for Timeless, I'd instantly spend whatever amount I needed to so that I could play said decks. The only reason that I've ignored spending money on Arena thus far is because not enough cards that I use, or cards that I would use, are available.
22:45 Classic Seth missing the fact that his light up the stages are 1 mana
I know I was like dude don't you see that lol😂
As he's literally saying "it's a shame I don't get to cast these light up the stages" as you can just look and see they're 1 mana cause his opponent decided to Fetch in response to the Roiling Vortex cast.
It seemed like he was really getting greedy for the light up into free land mentality but he deffinetly should have just got the free 4 cards for the following turn, regardless of being able to drop a land with light up or not.
I think it was more the fact who expects fetch in the second main!
44:53 Ok, so I am dumb, but can someone explain thisr? He plays the eidolon first, THEN the prowess haste card, so he hits himself for 2 in a close race, then attacks for a single point of damage to light up the stage for ANOTHER 2 damage to his own face? And he couldve instead played swiftspear, then DRC, then Eidolon so his swiftspear is a lethal 3/4 haste and he would have 4 more life and a 3/3 flier even if the opponent had the leyline binding that he did...You could save light up the stage for another turn, which you would have.
Gotta say, if storm really is so big, roiling vortex is just an amazing counter to that.
Alternatively if it is on arena and in the timeless format, Leyline of Combustion is a pretty underrated card that also deals with targetted removal as well (only downside being that the deck probably will rarely be at 4 mana to hardcast it if it isn't in the opening hand)
If Seth would stop playing eidolon before his 1 drops the game vs domain in game 3, wouldn't have been so close
That was very frustrating to watch, especially "oh I shouldn't have done that" and then did it again immediately
Blood moon is worth the rare.
What would you drop for it @@Mr_Dopey
Thank you for always giving us players ways to play on the cheap!
around 22:55 you could have used the light up the stages right? They cracked the fetch in response to the roiling vortex, not at etb.
Came here for this. It shows the price as only 1 and he clicked right through.
I had the same thought but I think he was prioritizing keeping the vortex activation up to prevent life gain
@@qjl889 I feel like risking them gaining 3 health a single time is more than worth getting the light up the stage online though?
Yep! There was the whole animation of spectacle being activated too... and then he was complaining about how he needed to activate them haha
Not bringing in Tormod's Crypt against the Tarmogoyf/Uro/Deathrite Shaman deck was certainly a choice.
I THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY WHYYYYY?
Thing is, all these rares are useful outside of this deck so it sure does seem like a worthwhile deck to invest in from that perspective as well.
opponent cracked a fetch *while* seth was complaining the light up the stage was off. I swear that is comment fishing. It worked seth, it worked.
Opponent's phone alert goes off. It's the the "Roiling Vor-Text."
IMO roiling vortex is a main-deckable card. If you are playing best of 1 I really recommend it. I run 2 in the mainboard in modern.
Especially with all of the baubles running around, that 5 damage is huge
@@ther3aper561true, arena players love bauble almost as much as they love lifegain.
@@poiriI can never find room for it.
I like to run a brotherhoods end in the main deck too. People's love their cheap artifacts or creatures.
Is it worth maindecking it in a format that doesn't have a ton of free spells the way Modern does though? In a format where nearly every deck is jamming evoke elementals and forces it makes sense but it doesn't seem nearly as powerful in Timeless as a maindeck card. I'm really not trying to be snarky or anything, I haven't played any Timeless yet. I have a ton of wildcards I've saved over the years but I wanted to wait a while for the meta to settle down before I start buying up fetches, spellbook cards, etc so I haven't played yet but Bauble alone doesn't seem like enough unless there's also a lot of incidental lifegain and stuff in the format that gets punished by it.
Been having luck with Mono-Black Devotion. Moderately expensive (Necropotence, Dark Rituals, even Phyrexian Obliterator), but at least you get to save on the mana base.
I've been playing a lot of Rakdos burn, you don't actually need Bowmasters! I've been playing with Hopeless Nightmare's and Okiba Reckoner Raids and they are great, especially in the mirror. They also make it way easier to get delirium off as there's more enchantments to get into the yard. Bowmasters is by no means bad, but I only play it in the sideboard.
U mentioned watching teaching zoomers about necro. Was there a video for that? I must have missed it?
At 36:05 instead of bolting the mutavault, let the hexcatcher resolve. If he sacks the hexcatcher you just pay the 1, if he doesnt, you bolt the hexcatcher and if he sacs the mutavault you still have bolt in hand and he lost 3 life and board is the same as if you bolt the mutavault.
I love The Magic Mirror. It does take a while o get going, but I play it in control deck with a lot of wraths. I've got it up to 7 counters before. A new hand every turn is pretty nuts!
i dont see the issue with the leyline, most games arent going long enough that casting it turn 4 would be relevant anyways. plus it seems to be intended to sacrifice during the beseech the mirror loop
in RW u can also play sunbaked Canyon :) also in Mono red u can play sunbaked canyon and/or fiery islet
Started playing burn because of this video and now i run 3 color burn (red, black and white). Boros charm, lightning bolt, Boltwave, Bump in the Night...Only way i have consistently been able to go toe to toe with omniscience players. Working on an blue white artifact affinity control deck to really shut them down.
How many times did Seth Eidolon and then take 2 in the same turn?
There's also Gruul Burn, where you get Atarka's Command (which is usually going to be 3 damage to face + pumping your dudes, though it could also be 3 damage to face + no lifegain for your opponent) and Deathrite Shaman for that grindy, grindy value.
Boros or Rakdos would probably be better, though.
Arcanist + atarka is a TON of value though
Even tho Timeless is expensive, if you're smart at least you can feel pretty confident your rare/mythic purchases are gonna last. Once you've got 4 x Necropotence, you're probably good for the rest of the time you care to play arena. Big upfront cost, but holds value well if you're smart about your picks.
I've built 6-8 decks with necro.
Standard at times is just as "expensive"
I win in timeless all the time with mono red burn. Channeler, ghitu lavarunner, swiftspear, variashino pyromancer, light up the stage, skewer, bolt, wizard's lightning, bonecrusher giant, play with fire, lightning strike, reckless impulse, risk factor, electrostatic field over eidolon. 4x Rumanap ruins and 2x den of the bugbear
2:52 Teaching Arena Zoomers About Necro? Am I missing something? I can't find that video :o
I found Tainted Pact to be a good entry deck coming from mostly playing Historic Brawl. I had a ton of one-ofs so I found making any regular deck to require more wild cards than I had.
Looks like a fun deck to build on paper 📃 😀 😄 👍 😉 👌 📃 that is.
the great thing about budget decks like this is that there's room for improvement, you can use this deck to grind for wildcards and then use those to upgrade it
Just draft the new sets for like 2 weeks.
I made a timeless version of the goblin deck you built a little while ago and am winning games. I doubt I could rank up very far with it, but I am having fun.
so i see the appeal of roiling vortex especially with the free spell hate but if its main job is life gain prevention could skull crack be used in its place (assuming its on mtga i actually dont know if it is)
The best part about trying out this deck has been running into all the upgraded versions of this, and strangely the original budget version has a great win percentage into it's beefier brother.
I just wish timeless had more people playing non meta decks. I made it to mythic playing timeless and on the way I don't think I saw more than 5 different decks.
That's primarily because your ELO was quite high. Lose a bunch and it's much more fun jank
It's not a brewers format
Out of all the cards in Timeless, Minsc and Boo seem like my most hated. Probably not most OP, but it's like, what do you even do against that raw power? It doesn't even have to waste a loyalty ability activation on making a creature! It's just a 4/4 with haste every turn.
"Are they playing a Leyline that they literally cannot cast?" Not unheard of in various competitive formats, especially when Leyline of Sanctity or Leyline of the Void are involved.
Also I would point out that if you want to play almost any given competitive format on a budget, Mono-Red Burn is usually up near your best option because so many of the parts are interchangeable.
Makes sense, especially in formats with more lax or non-existent rotation, iterations on "shoot a dude in the face for 2-3 damage" in red have been done practically every block, and there's no fancy necessary synergies to make the damage work
You just shoot them until they die, synergies are nice but The Gun is still The Gun regardless of which exact accessories you slap on it
Can you make a video about Deck historic brawl?
that merfolk matchup was brutal 😭
Imo runny steamy boi is honestly a necessity in this deck... Spectacle, drawing, pinging all are even more super functional once you have a free three mana. Like turn 1 swift, t2 steam kin, t3 bolt, light up, skewer attack for 8, second main pop steam kin for 3 mana, light up, bolt.... Turn 3 wins are extremely viable witj steam kin
Bolting self for prowess is a very me thing to do😊
I’ve been playing budget reanimator in timeless with Troll of Lhazad dum
@22:50, opponent cracked the fetch in response to you playing roiling vortex, they lost life so you could've played light up the stage if you wanted to risk them not having uro.
I feel like some of Seth's Eidolon play was pretty odd. Both playing them when inopportune and forgetting about them other times.
53:25 what video are you talking about? I can’t find it
I've been really enjoying my monoB discard Timeless deck. It's just every copy of Thoughtseize, IoK, Duress, Pilfer, etc. I had lying around, plus Raven Man, Waste Not, Graveyard Trespasser etc. For a lot of decks in the format, just disrupring their early game is enough to turn them off.
I don't mind the Leyline in the 60 of the storm deck considering Beseech can bargain it.
I like Burning Hands in the sideboard. 2 mana for 6 against some of the most annoying cards to play against.
Seth, idk how many times I’ve seen you punt because you didn’t play a land and wanted to wait and play it after combat.
Around the 22 min mark you could have saved your swift spear if you played a land, then the swiftspear (it gets the counter) and when they go to Cut Down(only one black source at the moment so they couldn’t cast another thing) you could’ve then cast the Spikefield getting a prowess trigger, saving the creature, dealing some damage and then forcing them to cast another removal spell on the same creature. Which means one less removal for latter turns. Plus actually getting 4 damage on the opponent.
Play your dang land. It doesn’t cause priority to switch. Just play it. Thst whole exchanged changed the whole dang vibe of the match.
Eagrely awaiting the oft-mentioned teaching arena zoomers about storm video🙂
Another Budget magic episode lets go!
I like burn...maybe I'll craft this up and play some Timeless...
As someone relatively new to magic, why didn't you just cast the burn spells in the Uro match up when you had the chance to? I noticed lands untapped, burn spells in hand, and nothing being done.
Another downside to Lurrus upgrade, If you want to play the cat you also need to cut Light up the Stage and Skewer the Critics which is kind of a bummer.
Loved the video, I love watching Burn!
Lurrus is permanents, not any spell.
@@Clackerr you're right I somehow never remember that
Nice deck but some misplays, e.g. Swiftspear after Eidolon, 1 Mana Light ups after opponent fetching etc
I have been playing burn since Timeless has been announced. I have been main decking Roiling Vortex. You wouldn't believe how many people have killed themselves casting Mishra's Baubles. People don't read Vortex.
I think that its actually kinda fine that lightning bolt is a rare. If boring Brazen Borrower is a mythic, then literally the best burn spell ever, for all time, can be rare.
Bauble draws at the beginning of the next upkeep, so it's probably worth the gamble with DRC.
i think my thing with pure burn in this format is that it just feels awful in the deathright shaman format
I both love and HATE bowmaster at the same time.
Can we do a timeless oops all spells deck in. Timeless or a timeless goblin char belcher in timeless if theyre both legal in this format on this channel sometime
Do you also have a list with the full upgrades?
Do people who play monored to grind up the deck they want actually move on from it? Whatever you are shooting for will be slower / require more thought on the ladder than just going back to grinding with monored.
Try mono black burn with necro.
Sad to not see blood moon, but since it's a rare it makes sense. But I need blood moon!
I crafted the brainstorms, and drafted a few bolts in limited, bit I'm hanging on for a downshift before I craft counterspell, the rest of the bolts, and the other feel bad rares...probably for nothing, but I'm holding out!!
I like Burning Hands in the sideboard. 2 mana for 6 against some of the most annoying cards to play against.
Maybe swap-out Bauble for Crypt against goyf/uro?
As a person who has one copy of ragavan from getting a lucky pull, what should i cut for it
i think the first big upgrade for the deck would be adding blood moon, blood moon is just insane currently i've found
Been playing this deck since day 1
I'm confused. Why sub in roiling vortex for uro, but not tormods crypt? also isnt crypt good agaisnt lhoyf decks?
I was waiting for him to say blood moon as an upgrade
Wouldn't Sulfuric Vortex be a better replacement to Roiling Vortex since it requires no mana for lifegain hate?
its not on arena
Sulfuric also costs 3 mana to cast, and with this few lands that matters. It also doesn't punish the free spells, which as we saw against the storm deck is important. Roiling is almost strictly better.
I refer to Searing Blood as Velveeta Hands.
"Velveeta Hands your Bow Buddy..."
That is my input.
Why not side in tormods crypt against Uro?
Rpiling Vortex love is the best kind of love
Why would you take the seating blood out. It's like the only way you could burn the leyline of sanctity player.
If wizards makes timeless more affordable the popularity will shoot through the roof
You forgot tomods crypt exiles graveyards. But it's all good
Why you wouldn't sideboard in crypt is beyond me?? Got beat by Uro and targboi so idk why not take out the mishras and sub in t crypt?
How do you get the modern cards from mtg arena? i want to build this deck.
Full send into R/B/W for upgrade. Why not.
Eidolon just does way too much damage to myself that i dont like to use it.
At least Seth could have played it in the right order 😂
Searing Blood gets around Leyline right??
Yes; doesn't target the opponent
I realy would live to See pauper one day on Arena 😊
But then people aren't burning their wildcards. 🤔
(They did have it on mid week magic a few times though)
Why can't i find the teaching arena zoomers about necro video?
Where is the necro video we was mentioning? Teaching arena zoomers about necro?
I was just thinking this; I actually came back to the comments because I realized it's not actually on youtube and wondering if I just missed it
@@Majdjejsneei4 Same here i checked all the channels just to be sure but didn't see anything.
Goes to show that 10 cent burn can always win in any meta
can someone timetag first lightning bolt of this video, please?
okay but actually the domain matchup 😭😭😭
Seth just playing poorly and giving up when an opponent might have uro is disappointing
Ah a good old fashion fish fry.
Will helix be refunded once its not rare?
No, just like Faithless looting in Innistrad remastered
Every opponent: "Aren't we playing this format to avoid playing vs mono red aggro, dinosaurs, and atraxa?!?!?"
It's a lesson repeated throughout the ages.
If you wanna build a cheap deck, build burn.
This was painfull to watch because of all the Eidolon and Light Up the Stage punts.
So THIS is why everyone is running mono-red in best of one
Literally could be said about every 60 card format on Arena
Need a cheap deck and want to be top tier competitive? Red Deck Wins. the answer is always Red Deck Wins. it just somehow ... wins
Seth it's Vortex not Votext 😂
This format *needs* price of progress
