    Oh, man...I used to own one (Mazda 323 Sedan, '91 model, made in Japan), back in the day, from '91 up to 2008...excellent value-for-money, very easy to drive, smooth and quite stable (had an advanced trapezoid suspension which was pretty effective - no ABS, back then). Good built quality, comfortable and warm interior, was quite a pleasure to have a ride. Top-notch family car (for its cost), since it was large enough for 4 (or even 5 passengers, depending on the individuals), large enough trunk and quite features (1600cc, 16v, GLX, also): mine had electric windows, lockable trunk and glovebox, plus central locking, but no heated seats (Mediterranean climate, you see) . No power steering, as well, but it never was a real problem to me. I cannot figure out why yours needed so many repairs, maybe it was not well maintained or heavily used by previous owners, I had no such problems, just the usual maintenance stuff, in general. I even sold it in the end to another family-man (as a reserve car), cheaply but not for pennies (it was still in regular use at least three years after). Never died on the road, never did let me down...
    Ah...so many memories...(first to comment, yeah!)

      Thanks for the comment and interesting experiences about this car :)
      Rust created most problems as here in Finland they put salt on roads in winter which is corrosive for metal. Not sure though why the exhaust valve burned.

    Thanks a lot for this. Videos of this model in original condition are rare! I have one of these and I didn't know you could get a 1.6L with a tachometer. Mine is a 1.8i manual with 76kW and 150 nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. We bought ours new. It has 297,000 km on the clock with no major repairs. Worse thing is low down torque with is exacerbated by very tall gearing. It has notable pull at 4,000 rpm but in 4th gear this would be at 120km/h!!! Very comfortable seats with excellent lumbar support simply built into the seats, perfectly weighted steering, excellent rear seat leg room with rear arm rest and map pockets, map reading lights in the front, power steering, central locking, electric exterior mirrors but surprisingly, no glove box light. There are even air vents under the front seats for rear passengers! Insane! The boot is huge and the rear seats fold too! Doesn't feel like a front wheel drive on the road. It uses 9 - 10 L per 100km in the suburbs and 7.5L - 8L per 100 km on the highway. My seats are the same colour as yours and great in 4 celsius or 44 celsius but my exterior is white. Used to own a 323 Astina SP and the sedan is much easier to live with. The worse thing about the SP was very short gearing but I would prefer the sedan's tall gearing to the SP's. The 323 Sedan 1.8i was very expensive in 1990 costing AUD $24,090 with air (which cost $1,800). Mazda were going with pseudo luxury in this model and you can feel it in the interior that is miles ahead of the 323 from the late 90's as this one even has plush head lining. A brilliant all round car! Greetings to lovely Finland.

      Thanks, that was very interesting story about your 323 :)
      My car had 1,6 litre carb engine, SOHC 16-valve and 87 HP and 125 Nm torque. I don't remember the revs right now though.
      It indeed had quite nice interior materials, the seat fabric especially, interior doorpanels had also fabric part in them.
      Here in Finland, to my knowledge, only the 1,3 LX didn't have tachometer, all others did. Finnish cars also had heated seats which was very good feature in cold winters :)
      Nowdays I have 2016 Kia Rio and it was fun to find out, that Kia and Mazda had some shared models in the past, for example Kia Pride / Mazda 121 :)

      @@club1fan552 Here, 323 sedan was also available as 1,3 LX and the 3-door Hatchback had pretty much same trimlevels and engines available as the sedan. Then there was the 323F, 5-door Hatchback with popup headlights but it didn't have the 1,3 engine or LX trimlevel available. Lowest trimlevel for 323F was 1,6-16 valve GLX and top of the line was 323F 1,8 DOHC GTi :)

      @@mrjsv4935 Wow! A 323 sedan with only a 1.3! Was the body style of this model the same as your 323? Also the 5 door hatch with pop up headlights which you call the "F", could you get that with a 1.8 SOHC engine? Over here, that was the only engine choice for the hatch along with the DOHC which I owned and you call the GTi. Here it was called the 323 Astina SP for Special Performance. Here, all hatches were called Astina. I did see one in Malta in the 90's with the 1.6L you describe. In 1990 I was in Finland and I saw a 1973 Mazda 1300 on the street in Helsinki. It was in immaculate condition. It was red and I think a 2 door and I took a photo of it. Given your harsh winters, I thought a 17 year old car from the 70's in that condition was unusual...

    • @mrjsv4935
      @mrjsv4935  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Club 1 Fan Yes, the 1,3 l sedans were the same BG -body generation as my 1,6 sedan. The 1,3 litre sedan was available in LX and GLX trim levels.
      Only the Station Wagon was still based to the older BF -generation and had 1,6 litre engine, but I think it was 8-valve only.
      323F was indeed available with 1,8 SOHC engine as well.
      I've heard that what we knew as a 323F, was called Astina in other markets and in Japan, I guess it was called Eunos 100 or something like that :)
      Talking about 323F, I have a 1/43 modelcar about it and showing it in my channel ;)
      th-cam.com/video/FMFneS7JbVE/w-d-xo.html
      I believe very few Finnish 70's cars were in good condition anymore by 1990 :D
      I guess some have been driven only in summer, or kept pristine by other means.
      Before this 1990 323, I had a 1982 323 Hatchback, which had rust damage already at ten years old. The 1990 323 resisted rust much better, but eventually rust got through in it as well.

    My father used to own this model. Looking at this picture gave me a lot of memories. It's not just a car it was an emotion. Sadly he had to sell it and get a new vehicle which was a toyota Corolla and then to toyota yaris and Chevrolet lumina and currently a bmw x6. But out of all those cars mazda was the best old memories and everything. I really wish I could get my hands on one of these and keep it forever in my family ❤ thanks alot for uploading this video this video really brought back many memories ❤

    Recently bought one with 8 Valve B6 Fuel injection engine and I'm pretty happy with it so far, drives very well. It's just that my central locking does not work very well. It only unlocks driver door (obviously when you move the lock with your key) and with luck the driver side rear door. All locks do move, but it's not enough to push them up to unlock.

    • @mrjsv4935
      @mrjsv4935  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very nice :) My car didn't have central locking, even it was a GLX trim level, seems there was two kinds of GLX trim levels at least here in Finland, some had central locking and power steering, mine didn't have either of them.
      Maybe the locking mechanisms need some lubrication? Also might be good idea to check if the wiring loom going from body to the doors are ok and no broken wires there.

    Damn, for above 350,000 km use, that is a damn good car with a nearly pristine condition. No Mazda 323 will be that great in my country, especially with that amount of kms.
    But I have a white 1990/1991 Mazda 323 1,6 16v SOHC, it's still at around below 70,000 km. The condition is still like new but there is small defect on driver side door trim and the air vent.

Such pleasure to drive whithout any problems exept the electronic ignition module and empty fuel tanks after 500 km of driving :-). After his life in the Netherlands it's exported in the end of 2006. Good question and it was interesting puzzle to solve as I live in Finland :)
      Found out by Googling that Mazda Protege (the US version) has had a price range of 9.339 USD - 12.260 USD in 1990.
      I think the cheapest Protege SE (1,8 litre SOHC engine) is closest match to my old 323 1,6 GLX Sedan so perhaps the 9.339 USD is around the price that similar car to mine would've cost in the US in 1990.
      Today (in 2020), after inflation correction, it would be 18.378,47 USD, which is 16.465,25 Eur.
      For comparison, this exact car costed here in Finland 89.900 FIM in 1990. That's today 23.900 Euros.
      We had, and still have, a car tax in new cars which explains why it was so expensive in Finland, compared to the US prices.
      Actually, more accurate comparison between US and Finnish models would be the 323 sedan 1,8i-16v (SOHC) GLX which was available here as well. It had a price of 104.000 FIM which is 27.650 Euros today.
