Great fly love hybrid carp worms I've used them at local ponds for carp. For the hackle I like using rusty brown marabou. Rusty brown, brown, and olive are my favorite colors. It make it more like a worm sticking out of the mud or even algae. A lot of movement goes a long ways instead of stiff fibers on carp flies.
Ha, yeah I just tied up some Egans headstand flies the other day and fished with them last weekend. That video will be out next Friday. Good fly, caught some bass. I have fished similar flies for these carp there at the river I was discussing and they still don't look at them. In fact I think an exact egans headstand once with no lookers. I cannot tie the carpitbomb because the creator has told me not to, at least on camera, can't sell them either. Only fly tier in the world to limit who ties his flies. Craziness... LOL. I will try the pellet and Barrys. Thanks for the info.
Nice simple carp fly. I live just 10 mins from a carp on the fly spot, so I think I will tie it up and give it a try. The 2 carp flies I have had the most success with are the thin mint woolly bugger with a black bead and a simple black woolly worm.
I didn't know carp would eat flies until recently. They're big powerful fish, gotta be a blast sight fishing for them with a fly rod. Maybe it's a faux pas to use bass hooks or heads to tie flies on. But a small finesse shaky jig head would stand this style fly vertically on the bottom.
I finally caught a carp with a similar fly pattern in the Pedernales river near Johnson City just before Christmas. Since you live in the area you might try this spot, the water level is perfect right now but a bit cold. I see these big fish constantly in the hill country rivers and they are indeed tricky to catch. The observation about scent is interesting. I use UV resins that have odor well after cure so I will try avoid using any adhesives. My grandfather used to rub a tiny amount of canned sardine oil on his wet flies when fishing for trout in upstate New York. Thanks, I will give your pattern a try. Excellent video!
A buddy of mine throws a fly he ties that’s like a cluster of spike maggots on a hook he does well with a wide variety of fish on that pattern. He’s caught a lot of suckers and a few carp with the maggot fly!
@@McFlyAngler there’s actually an interesting technique that we use called calling or klopping which involves repeatedly splashing the water with your fly to attract the catfish
I wonder if you could do that pattern with a little longer yarn tail. Make it wiggle like a leech on the bottom. The lead eyes would make it stand up on its head and the yarn would add some movement to it... I think I'll give it a shot myself now that I'm thinking of it.
I gotta do more carp fishing, the golf course ponds around here are loaded with ‘em. Would that fly also imitate a crawfish? That lake we fished with the floating dock has an abundant crawfish forage supply and I assume the trout take advantage of that. I really like flies with prominent eyes like this one as it seems that predatory fish key in on the heads of their prey. Cool fly Shawn! 😎. Hope to see a vid featuring McFly junior soon. I love that kid! ❤️.
Hey Bob, so I think this just mimics a worm. But who knows what they are kicking in on when they strike it. I just know from reading up it’s one of the better flies for carp. If you’re looking for a specific crayfish pattern there’s a lot out there. I’ve had really good luck with something called a crazy dad.
No, I’ve thrown everything at the carp out this way and haven’t had luck. But I know of people who have had luck with this exact pattern, just I can’t figure the carp out this way. Who knows man, the rivers here are super clear, they see me before I see them. Very hard to fish them, some people have luck out here but not me. Some time soon, maybe. But I’m sure it’s me, and not the fly that is the problem
Well first you have to sign up for an excise tax license, which you give 10% of all your income to the fish and game (before any other tax), then setup a tax license for your state. Mine is 8.75% tax. Then buy materials and such. Then figure out how to market yourself. I spent years building my channel with 40+ hours a week to get to this point. Then be ok with making about $7-8/hour or so selling flies before taxes.
Please please please let us know if this fly works...its so hard to catch carp on a fly...I have even put peanut butter on my flys out of frustration....lol
So the first carp on the fly I ever caught was on the crazy dad pattern. I linked that video in this video if you wanna check it out. Big carp that day!

Other great carp flies is Egan's headstand, spun deer hair pellet fly, carp it bomb, Barry's carp fly as well.

@@McFlyAngler Yeah I'd reccomend the Egan's Headstand for stillwaters. I've had luck with it at ponds. I believe Lance Egan did the same.

Both are great flies man! Yeah carp will eat buggers I know, just can’t get them to bite here. Not sure why.

Thank you man! So, that’s awesome! Yeah I want to check out the perdinales, it’s about a 1.5 hour drive.
Cracking video as always ! you are dead right carp can smell any glue or resin so you can't use both when tying carp flies .
Thanks Justin, yeah hopefully this helps me catch.

Happy New Year Shawn! Great pattern, I'm going to give it a try with the bluegills this year. Cheers
Nice let me know how it works for you on them. How are things? Finally 2020 is over, let’s hope 2021 will be better right? Lol

Cool vid. That fly reminds me of some of the flies we use here in South Africa to fish for catfish
Oh cool man, yeah I would imagine catfish and carp could be similar to fish for.

Gotta try this

nice fly to try

Good video
Thanks
you should make a video on how to tie the morrish hopper pattern. Thank you
I don’t have the cutters. They are pricy. I will look into it, however I think there are already a few good videos out there for it.

You as well!
I hook into a lot of carp with a clouser minnow fly
Oh cool! I’ve thrown clousers at them and they don’t even look at them. Man these are tough carp. Haha!
If you twist wire in with your herl it will make it more durable.
Cool good thoughts

Do you tried Crayfish Patterns for Carp? Check the Carp video from hooked4life on YT, it helped mevto understand Carp fishing
Yes I’ve tried quite a few.
