Sambar hunting around Eildon, and another hunt with a pre-production pack I had just finished developing for Moroka.30. Eildon is very much a "spiritual" home for Sambar and Sambar hunting, each year my local ADA Westernport branch has a branch hunt near there. This a short clip taken from that hunt that resulted in a successful stalk and another big carry out. Enjoy, Rob.

Great hunt! As a bit of a tip, always take your rifle back down to the car/camp site with you on the first trip and then secure it before you go back for more meat. If you get caught leaving the rifle unattended like that in Victoria you're in big trouble. There's too much that can go wrong leaving it behind.

That’s a big animal. I’m hoping to start recurve bow hunting down the track. So much to learn. I’m out NW Grampians way.

How do I get involve with going out on a hunting trip? I've been out quite a few times solo, and i haven't even seen any signs of something. obviously you're not always going to find something, and you'll learn as you go but it'll be nice to finally get something or see some sort of signs, it'll be good to learn from someone as I don't know anyone who hunts.

Its crazy how much meat this guy wastes off this stag, so much meat off all the quarters just gets absolutely wasted. There are so many other ways to pack out a stag without wasting that much. Especially wasting the shanks, bone on and slowly braised they are one of the best cuts of meat off a big game animal. If you want to learn how to pack out a big animal, don't watch this guy, just watch a backcountry elk hunter in the American west do their work. Elk are even bigger than sambar stag, and often the distances to pack them out are even further. But even those guys make the most out off way more of the animal. It should not matter how many trips it takes to pack an animals out, there is no excuse for waste. Not a fan.

STFU if you hunt alone in the wild far from your vehicle this is all you can carry in one go. Elk hunters hunt in groups and/or close to their car so they can return for the rest.

@@justafloridamanfromthe75thRR it's still definatly possible mate to recover a deer like that when your deep in the backcountry. i've done it off red stags and Tahr down in new Zealand several times, it just takes a bit of planning, and some hard work. and plenty of north American elk hunter shoot elk deep in the back country and pack it out over 5-10 miles over multiple trips. you just have to get good at boning meat out, and invest in a good quality pack.
