Im no expert, I started 2 years ago and now I’m shooting one almost every trip once I figured them out. Shot 2 in my first year and about 12 in the last 12 months. But now my freezer is full so I’m only after the stags/bucks unless theres a hind or doe in an easy carry out spot lol
My most successful way was to get on MoreToExplore, find a legal spot on fringe country, find a nice green gully leading to a paddock on google maps, then head there and check for sign. And if it had good sign and was somewhat good to walk then I hunted it
There really is no secret you’ve just got a spend the time getting out there and figuring out where they are and the best way to hunt it

Thanks for putting this out there mate, its a good thing to pay it forward! In these times when they’re constantly trying to lock us out we need more hunters now than ever..I hope this sparks something in anybody that’s lacking the confidence to just get out there and give it a go. Thanks again

Just saw a massive Sambar in the Dandenong ranges like 10 mins from my house. It was probably 220-240Kg.

I started hunting Sambar in the late 80s after emigrating from the UK. Back then there was very little information about on how to get started so basically it was a get out there and and go for a look. There was also far less deer about and even finding sign that they were around was considered a productive weekend. Having some basic information on where to go and what to do would have been very helpful. Basic advice like your video imparts will be very useful to the newbie beginner who will be keen but apprehensive about their journey into deer hunting.
One of the first things I ever did was to join the Australian Deer Association and book myself onto their Hunter Education Course which proved to be invaluable. The rest is time in the bush and learning as much as possible whilst there, from others you may meet along the way and reading and watching as much as you can. You might even get to bring home some venison every now and again. 😄 Good luck to anyone who gives it a go.

same I live in NSW seen a small news paper article a farmer had problems with deer I searched his phone number and was lucky he asked how I found him when I told him he said if you went to that much trouble you can come . This farmer has 3 properties in Victoria I can now hunt that was 5 years ago I have taken many deer on my 2 to 3 trips a year since then.

Mate, great video. On the eve of my first ever public land hunt, I found your information extremely valuable. Thanks for setting expectations, I will now treat this hunt as scoping exercise significantly taking the pressure off.

The whole where do i hunt is a mystery. You do have to do a lot of hunting to find systems that hold deer. Was lucky enough to jag a Sambar doe last year. No luck this year 2021 but will be back soon. BTW i see you are a UFC fan. My son trains with Alex Volkanovski and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I think he uses my young bloke as a punching bag. Lol

Nice vid mate. Not many, even experienced hunters would go into that detail to help others. Can I ask where in Victoria or Melbourne you live.

Been on 8 trips and haven't seen deer its a bullshit sport mate just returned from licola and saw wild dogs but no deer not even a good sign. Deer crawling all over each other oh yeah so many the forest was lined with deer 🦌 🙄 same crap story from everyone I hear. You pay for your spot near a farm that's the only deer I've seen. Appreciate your help but I'm selling my deer stuff it's a total load of horse shit sport

I spent years not seeing any Deer… I was a bad hunter and didn’t understand the animals. Now that I do, I see them on most hunts.
