It could be a lot of different things, but try to get at least 24 GB of RAM in your PC. I used to use 16 GB but honestly 24 is the minimum I use now because video editing often eats up lots of RAM
Shogo do you think that oda nobunaga siege of Mount Hiei had an influence in the temple ranking? I am also curious about fushimi. Where can I found information on what to see besides the fushimi inari taisha (my favorite place in Japan...and probably the world)..
Kyoto's climate sounds a bit like the California high desert just with slightly less extreme temps but WAY more humidity. (Temps there could get up to 120 F/~49 C in summer and down to 0 F/~-18 C in winter but the humidity was always 30% or below.)
My Grandparents lived in Big Pine, CA and when I use to go visit for Christmas, it would always be snowing. I lived in Sun Valley, CA. it rained more there, so it was more humid than hot. I used to walk to school in huge puddles of water. Not kidding.
I’m from the high desert of Southern California and this didn’t sound too bad. The 0 degree winter sounds horrible though. We don’t get too much of that.
I will never forget that day.. The thermometer was showing "feels like 43 degrees", even though it was a lil lower.. but still, what the... I don't know how I walked. Maybe it was adrenaline cause I was happy being there and sightseeing :D
I really miss going to Kyoto. I liked living in Osaka, well Takatsuki to be exact. But every weekend I took the train there instead going into Osaka and I strongly agree about the heat. I'm from Florida, USA and it's still pretty intense.
Another super interesting video! As a US Minnesotan I'm ready to visit Kyoto from a weather standpoint! In an average year our temperatures will range from around -40°F to 100°F (-40C to 37C)!
Fun and informative as always, thank you. Also thanks for the advice on when to visit to avoid the crowds. In addition to late spring, how about late fall when it starts getting colder?
I just recently found your TH-cam channel and I am enjoying your contents. I lived in Kyoto for 2.5 year as a graduate student and it is one of the best decision of my life. I really reccomend Kyoto for Students as it not as distracting as big cities which allows you to focus on your study, while enjoying the various cultural sites and activities. I hope I can return to Kyoto again one day 🥰
Thanks, Shogo. Love all your videos on Japan, and also Kyoto. I will be visiting Kyoto this September, and so happy to have found your channel. Very insightful and informative.
I was supposed to study in Kyoto in winter 2019 - 2020. I myself come from Germany. Unfortunately, Covid put everything on hold and now everything has been postponed. Hopefully I can now travel there in September. I was really looking forward to studying in Kyoto. I had really lost hope that it would work out, but your videos help me to be motivated again!
Very informative Shogo-san. My wife and I visited Kyoto, Osaka and Nara on a one week tour in March 2018. Yes, we were fortunate to see the sakura in bloom. My favorite part of the tour was a one day side tour by an old train to Arashiyama to hike up the Mt. Atago and view the monkeys, relax in the Onsen at the foot of the mountain, eat a delicious yudofu and tempura meal at Togetsu Tei, and hike up through the bamboo forest. Oh how I want to return!
When I was an Exchange student at Ryukoku University (2002-2003) in the winter I would buy small heated cans of coffee from the vending machines and use them as handwarmers in the pockets of my coat. So when they cooled down enough i would have warm hands and a warm drink.
Yes! Totally agree on the hot 蒸し暑い summers of Kyoto! My relatives haven't experienced it firsthand and gawked when I said it feels like breathing in water when you're stuck in Kyoto summers. Also I can kind of agree on the bread and coffee bit but maybe because it was in 2011 and my standards are Australian expresso + milk styles, I found it hard to find a good decent coffee in Kyoto when I was there! I did try Inoda but maybe because I wasn't used to drip coffee, I couldn't get used to it 😅 maybe it's different now? But yes their breads are top-notch! Loved getting a croissant daily from Le Petit Croissant!
You missed the part where the women there have pretty high standards so it would be almost impossible impressing even the most open minded woman there 😭
The first time i hear about Kyoto was from the anime ( rorouni Kenshin) - I love that cartoon.. but your photos got me interested- Kyoto looks like a great place to visit- lots of site scenes ..
I love your information and style of presentation. However, as someone who grew up in Minnesota it's slightly amusing to me that you consider 0 degrees C to be "very cold". A day of 0 degrees C in Minnesota during the winter is a warm day.
For me, summer in Kyoto is more like being boiled since it is hot and humid. Nonetheless, I'd rather be in Kyoto in summer than anywhere else. I miss Kyoto!
I would love to say the ramen but quite possibly the sake. I love it hot. The ramen though is quite tempting as well of course the shrines and temples.
10:52 Bleah; I know what that level of humidity is like. It does not feel good...especially when one deals with sensitivity to UV exposure. 16:10 So, a lot like the instant ramen packs one could buy at a store. Heh-ha, sooo healthy. I really only knew that Kyoto was once Japan's capital. These eight facts were basically new to me, though mostly unsurprising. The Midwestern US often has a lot of super hot and humid summer days, and in some areas, it's often very windy (I speak of non-storm related wind).
"Summer in Kyoto feels like you're being grilled on a frying pan" OOOF!!! All I'm thinking about is maiko/geiko I can't imagine how hard that must be for them!!! 🥵
I'm actually a bit excited now. I was worried because I live in a desert basin environment (salt lake) and was worried it'd be too different for me to adapt, but it sounds like I shouldn't have much trouble outside of the humidity.
The temperatures in Kyoto are kinda similar to north of Skåne in Sweden except that it doesn’t get that hot but close to it and it gets colder, like -5 degrees Celsius
I think the part with the one-hand-eating is more of a myth, I can't imagine craftsmen eating during their work, risking to stain their produce with dirty hands. Might still apply to travellers and merchants tho
I do wanna try melon pan I mean, it's cookie merged with bread, is there any better mix than that?? I would pick a slice of white bread, like it was playdough and crush it together with chips ahoy, I basically created melon bread as a child, without ever knowing about it until 10 years later
Shogo: extremly hot, 35 degreees Me: okay okay, that's survivable, it sometimes happens here too Shogo: extremly cold, even 0 degrees Me: hAhAhA you fool, welcome to Poland
Question: I notice you (Shogo) pronounce Kyoto as "Kyodo". Is this one of those things where the second syllable has a sound somewhere in between a "t" and a "d"? I've always pronounced it with a hard "t" sound, but I was not born or raised in Japan, so I am curious if I have been mispronouncing it all these years. lol.
Its still beter where i am from. All year long 35 degree celcius sometimes up to 40 and only in the evening it goes down to 23 so kyoto sounds much beter haha
I assume Kyoto might be Japan's "California" and "Seattle"? Very liberal, pro-socialist, pro-communism that is widely embraced by its university population? Thank you! I am learning much from your program!

I really appreciate the geography/atmosphere explanation of why Kyoto has high temperatures. Thank you, it was easy to understand it. :)
shogo: 35 degrees feels like in a frying pan and kyoto has 15 days + hot days a year
me: thats everyday for me .... cries silently
The temperatures you described sound similar to my hometown Porto Alegre. I feel your pain.
I'm always excited to watch your videos. Unrivaled presentation!
About Kyoto wow...as natural as you get for an actual atmospheric dome.

Thanks for this video. I learned more about Kyoto. I'll return for a visit next month. I'll road trip my way from Tokyo where I live now.
Thanks, Shogo. Love all your videos on Japan, and also Kyoto. I will be visiting Kyoto this September, and so happy to have found your channel. Very insightful and informative.
Man... living somewhere where it hits over 100F in the summer and often hits -20 to -30F in the winter, Kyoto sounds like a paradise, haha.
Coffee and bread together is also a common thing in Dominican Republic and possibly other Spanish countries.
Cafe con pan is unbeatable!
Thanks for the video, Shogo! ありがとうございます!
Nice to see your video today. Very informative. Hope you and your family had no ill effects from the latest earthquake.
Cool I love to work in Kyoto
Fall in Kyoto is the best time of year.

"The unmarried rate of those in their 20s is No. 1" - all the men go rushing there to find a waifu
you‘ll have to live there too and not be a social reclusive for a healthy marriage
There are thousands of undergrad/ grad students there so that explains.

There are so many cool cafes in Kyoto! I highly recommend Walden Woods and Kurasu
I wonder shogo-san, are there Filipinos living in Kyoto? bread and coffee feels like a very Filipino breakfast lol

I like to visit Kyoto during the Gion Festival
Ah, bread and coffee. My usual breakfast. I live in the Philippines.
It surprised me at the time, but the best Italian food I've ever had was at a restaurant in Kyoto.
