Maturity is when you realize, Animes are not cartoons.
Anime and cartoons are basically same things, both are animations. It's just that anime is Japanese animated show and Cartoon is Indian animated show.
But in Indian society, the mentality of people is so bad that they think Cartoon is something animated (and they don't know about Japanese animation, anime) and which is only made for small kids and hence when they see their children watching anime, parents think "oh this is animated, so it's cartoon and my children is watching this, even though he/she is above 15 (or something like that)" and then they stop us.

I always thought that anime was better than live-action movies, because of all the fight scenes and action, like how they are shown in anime, how the characters fly during the battle, and how the camera moves, I don't think it can be done in a live-action movie. Just an opinion.

Now, someone used it to tell a story with some funny looking character which were looked like cartoon so they started to call it cartoon.
Animation can be used in many ways rather than story telling, like education, business etc. But stupid people still call it cartoon, they they were told to.
8:15 I believe that people tend to look down on animated series simply because they are unaware of the fact that they aren't always meant for kids. People who have only watched cartoons like Tom and Jerry in their childhood and nothing else will think Animes like MHA and DEATH NOTE are for kids only, on a second note they also don't know the vastness of the stories that can be presented when the restrictions of real life laws is removed. You can't expect someone to make Live action fight sequences as intense as AOT, stories as sad and depressing as NGE, YLIA, PLASTIC MEMORIES, VIOLET EVERGARDEN, the legendary depression king AKAME GA KILL and many others. The ignorance that people have shown towards animated content simply because of the prejudice of "BEING FOR KIDS" is the biggest reason according to me.
The answer to your question , could be the fact that , visual appearance of animated characters is far from reality, even thought they emote emotions, expressions but still there is a difference in acting from actors eyes, and acting from animated character's eyes. In short there is less depth in character's expression, emotions like fear,love,anger, skills, cry.
I admit that I have cried after watching your lie in April and a silent voice but it is not because of acting of animated character's but because of music,direction,screenplay and events.

In my opinion, live-action of the same intensity is considered better or above animation of the same intensity, is because, at some point in time, all of us considered every animation to be a cartoon, and this subconscious bias stays till someone actually watches those animation frequently (like anime fans).
Another reason is that live-action looks more realistic, so again, subconscious bias. On the other hand, in Japan (from what I have heard), people have a similar bias against live-action, because that is what they grew up with considering better, while everywhere else, people originally consider live-action to be adult-oriented.
tl;dr: what we grow up thinking to be more mature creates a bias, which stays as long as we don't watch both
It's just the mindset of different people, some think that anime and animation is cartoonish and is meant for kids. And they think that live action is more realistic and mature. But the fact is anime can depict what we can't through live action and vice versa, so it's completely dependent on an individual, but I think we should accept all the entertainment form equally and encourage each one of them.

Anime and live action both have same impact.The only reason for preference towards live action is coz of its human cast or coz some people make opinions without even watching good animated content.They watched some kids show in their childhood so they expect all of them to be same.i mean most of them have only watched incredibles,despicable series and boss baby.This leads them to believe that its a kid content.When in reality they never tried adult animated shows.

Reason why people choose live action over animation :-
Short answer - Because of actors and realism.
1.Because of the emotions and acting , In animation every emotion a character has, it has to be animated but in a live action actor acting makes character more lively. Some actors are so good that the character are famous because of their acting for example :- Heath Ledger (Joker) , Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) , RDJ (Iron man) Now imagine them being animated, They will feel less lively and energetic. They feel more human.
2. And i also think live action is more preferred because people get more connected with them as a human. They know that the character doesn't exist but the person who is acting does exist. Its automatically create a connection between audience and actor.
3. Human like things which resembles them more . I know this point sounds stupid but just listen to me. We all know that real world is boring we don't have magic and we don't have pokemon like animals.
Real world have a lot of rules in nature. But when we see a live action with magical creature and magic it gives audiences a closure that what would it feel and look like if those magic and magical creature exist in real world.
Example - who would u choose pikachu from detective pikachu and pikachu from animated series. Of course everyone will choose the 3d one over 2d because it feels more realistic to us. This example maybe a little hypocritical cause the 3d pikachu is also a form of animation.
Lets take another example - Everyone loves Mikasa ackerman and now think an actor playing as her . Now who would u choose. Maybe the 2d one but just imagine a perfect actor for that character.
With same intensity, power, charisma. People will choose live action mikasa over 2d one.(maybe u will still choose 2d one)
4. Movies like Lord of the rings, Harry potter, imagine them being animated it will loose its magic. People don't like anime being made into live action, cause the studios don't know how to adapt a anime because that's hard. That's why people hate live action anime movies. Some things looks better in 2d like Naruto, Dbz , one piece. But if u get a perfect adaptation of one piece i think people will prefer live action more.
3d animation are now reaching new level of animation. Especially in video games. Maybe one day 3d animation will dominate live action but it will take a lot of efforts.
Animation can also produce intense imotional stuff shows like rezero ,a silent voice,your name and even Netflix's Klaus etc ..

I think in live action it's all about reality because people think animation sometimes or more often contain those elements like fantasy and sci-fi which are different from any normal live action like in fairy tail or other animes.
