I have fond memories of my F.A.S.T. 201 but the most important thing I remember is swapping the stock bearing for the bearing from a Duncan Freehand. This widened the gap, reduced the response, and let it spin twice as long.
I want to thank you for recommending this yoyo to me, my new 201 arrived today, and the training wheels really work! All the basic tricks that were harder on my dominator are now so easy!
1. Size A bearing, it takes the YYF slim 19mm pads - we have these on YoTricks. 2. We will get to it as soon as we can, but it probably will not be until next year. 3. We are not planning on having a black friday sale. Glad you like the vids!
In most cases I would recommend the Fast 201 over the Brain because it can take you farther. However, if you feel like you may be a little klutzy (uncoordinated) then the Brain will make learning the first 2 or 3 tricks easier.
Every Luminator ships with a spare bolt, we usually attach it to the packing slip, so you should be able to fix your Luminator. On the Fast 201 you shouldn't ever need to handle the bearing or the spacers. They should fit very snug, and once the bearing is on the spacer you should be able to spin the bearing when the yoyo is apart and have the bearing spin free for a few seconds. If this is not happening the only thing I can think is that the bearing is not fitting onto the spacers properly.
1. The Luminator Advanced Kit is only available on YoTricks.com. We do ship to the UK 2. I will try to remember to do a tutorial for that trick soon :) 3. I will be adding the Velocity to the YoTricks shop soon, and then I will be doing a video about it. Feel free to comment all you like. :)
If you have never yoyoed before I would recommend this yoyo. If you are already starting to work on string tricks, however, I would recommend the Velocity. We sell both on the YoTricks website.
If you are getting to the point where the FAST response system is messing up the string, that usually means it is time to upgrade to a more advanced yoyo. The only yoyo I would recommend of all the ones you mentioned is the Velocity. We carry that yoyo on YoTricks, and we also sell it in a pack that includes extra strings and some yoyo lube which protects the bearing so it can last much longer than it will dry.
If you already have a yoyo and can make it sleep I suggest you consider getting something a little more advanced than the Fast 201 like the YoTricks Edition ONE Advanced Kit. We have this on the YoTricks website and it includes the ONE yoyo and lube and strings, all things you need to start really learning tricks.
If you can tighten the yoyo a little it should become more responsive. If that is not working you may need to replace your string. Sometimes if a string gets too tight or too loose it will cause a yoyo to be less responsive than it should be. If that does not help then you can try lubing the bearing which will certainly work.
If you still have the Luminator you can remove the bolt by pushing it through the yoyo and then take it to any store that sells bolts and get a new one. It should not cost too much and it will get you started again.
If you are just getting into string tricks I would recommend either the Luminator Advanced Kit (the Luminator is the yoyo we use to teach all our string tricks, the Advanced Kit gets it setup to play great), or the Velocity which will help you transition from basic to advanced string tricks, or the Legacy II which can also help take you very far. Take a look at our descriptions of these yoyos on the YoTricks website and that should help you get a good feel of which yoyo is right for you.
+Vignesh Manikandan This yoyo is only recommended for someone who has never yoyoed before. It can take you as far as the basic string tricks (1a), but you will need a different yoyo if you want to get into advanced play.
+Christian Skwara yeah I remember I was given a dollar store "yoyo" that didn't even sleep. Like at all. It would go to the bottom and it would stop INSTANTLY. it was also a dragon ballz yoyo. Omg dragon ballz, dragon ball z.
:) It is not that we cannot think of anything, we have plenty of videos to make :) We are working on a few things behind the scenes. We are hoping to be able to work on videos again soon, though.
If you are having a hard time getting the bearing out you can try putting the yoyo in the freezer for a couple of minutes to an hour. This sometimes helps me. You could also try the Multitool if you have one, or if someone you know has one. This is the easiest way to remove bearings that fit a little too tightly on yoyos.
If it is your first yoyo I would recommend the yoyo in this video, the Fast 201. We have it on the YoTricks website. If you have yoyoed before but want to get a little more serious I would recommend you get the Luminator Advanced Kit, which we also have on the YoTricks website.
I suppose it could be a couple of things, but it sounds like it may either be overtightened, or the string may have slipped down between the bearing and the yoyo. Try loosening the gap a little and see if that helps. Also, check to make sure that the string is sitting on the bearing and not between the bearing and the yoyo. Also, did this just start happening, or has it been happening since you got your yoyo?
@asiashuffler yes, although you will need lube to keep the Dominator looping great. With a little Super Lube every so often the Dominator is one of the best looping yoyos available.
The yoyo can be loud, so if you might find that annoying you might want to go with a different yoyo, like the Luminator yoyo we use in most of our videos. With any new yoyo you should get extra strings. If you get the Luminator I suggest you get the Luminator Advanced Kit. This will not only get you extra strings but a few other items that will keep your yoyo working great.
If you have never yoyoed before, I would recommend the Fast 201 yoyo in this video. If you have yoyoed a little bit I would recommend the Luminator Advanced Kit. We sell both on the YoTricks website.
YES!!! Thanks for adding that, but i have some questions. 1.) What is the break pad and bearing size for the velocity? 2.) When is your review video going to be up 3.) I was just wondering if you do a black friday sale on your website during thanksgiving? Sorry for bothering you so much with these questions, but thanks for replying! And i really love your videos, they're so informative and they teach me alot. Thanks for doing what you do.
If you go to YoTricks.com and then click where it says Yoyo Tricks in the menu it will take you to a page with a description of each style and will give you a sense of how difficult each style is (the numbers do not refer to difficulty). In general, most people learn 30-40 1A tricks first before trying the different styles. Which styles you choose are totally up to you.
If you have never yoyoed before I say get the fast 201. If you have yoyoed a little and feel confident that you can throw the yoyo down, get it back up, and get a decent sleeper get the Velocity. I suggest you either get the Fast 201 Beginner Pack, or the Velocity Starter Pack on YoTricks, because they both come with things like strings that you will need to keep practicing.
If you are already getting into string tricks then really the whole world of yoyos is opened to you. It all depends on how much you want to spend. If you are looking for something under $25 the Legacy II and the Velocity are both great options. The Velocity is adjustable, which is nice, but the Legacy II comes with a full size bearing so it can probably take you further. If you are happy spending over $25 you can't go wrong with the Protostar or Dark Magic II. We have all these on YoTricks.
As far as I can tell there are really only 2 yoyos that are for beginners, the Yomega Brain and the Fast 201. (By "beginner" we mean someone who needs something easier than a regular yoyo to get them started, so something like the Velocity is more advanced than what we would call a "beginner" yoyo). Most of this video is implicitly comparing these 2 yoyos, and compared to the Brain it is more durable. Your points about the starbursts are well taken, though I have not seen this happen myself.
If you are breaking off the spokes on the Fast 201 that usually means that you are a little too advanced for that yoyo, but you might be right about the looping as well. This yoyo is not really designed to practice loops.
You need a different yoyo for looping than for string tricks. In your case I would recommend getting an Unleashed for looping and a FlipSide for string tricks. Get some medium lube for the unleashed and some thin lube for the flip side. Between those two yoyos you will have everything you need to learn every type of trick. Both should last longer than other similar yoyos as well, they can take a bit more punishment.
The OneStar is not designed for beginners, it is an advanced yoyo. It is supposed to be a less expensive version of the Protostar. It does not need lube, but it is a good idea to put some thin lube in the bearing to keep it from wearing out. For the price it is a good yoyo, but it is not one I would recommend for beginners.
We will post a video about this at some point. Basically you just put a tiny amount on each side of the bearing (less than a drop if you can help it) and then wipe off the outside of the bearing with a paper towel to remove any excess lube.
We are currently working on a few other aspects of the site. We are eager to get back to videos, though. I hope we can make some new stuff sooner than later. :)
There are a ton of great 1A yoyos available. The best yoyo for you depends on how good you are already (what tricks you already know) and how much you want to spend. We have all of our favorite yoyos on the YoTricks website store, I suggest you look through those and see if one looks good to you.
I know there are a few good videos on how to clean a yoyo bearing. If you just recently added the lubeI you could probably just drop the bearing in some Mineral Spirits for about an hour and it should come out working just fine.
We have just written up a review of the Genesis and the Genesis with hubstacks on our website. Just go to the product pages for each yoyo and we have a detailed written review for each. I suggest you read those on our website and then send me an email through the contact page if you have additional questions. I think the Genesis is a fantastic yoyo and well worth the price. If you decide to get those yoyos from us and you live in the US we will get it right out and the shipping will be free.
For the Fast 201 the type of string doesn't really matter, I suggest you just find some string that is in a color you like. We have lots of different string on the YoTricks website in several colors.
Thank you so much this is an old video but my parents took me this yoyo for a present and I was worried about unresponsive tricks and you make my yoyo career a lot better
The yoyo will only come back when you pull it up, that is how you give it slack. If you wind the yoyo loosely it should wind up normally. If the yoyo is not coming back up when you pull it up that usually means you need to throw the yoyo harder.
With the large or the small bearing. The small bearing should be able to sleep a little longer than this with a good throw. The large bearing should sleep much much longer.
Actually that yoyo is out of commission these days so I doubt we will ever do a review of that yoyo. However, if yoyojam decides to re-release that yoyo I see if I can get a review done for that yoyo.
I have tried a few different strings with this yoyo and they all seem to play about the same. Usually I use 100% polyester, though, because it lasts the longest.
At this point the type of string you use will not make a big difference. I would just get string that has the color you like. Any of the string we carry on the YoTricks website should work great.
I am not sure what you mean by Advanced Beginner or Pro level, but it sounds like you outgrew the Fast 201 more quickly than most. It is really designed for people who have never yoyoed before, not those with powerful throws and agressive play. If you are learning quickly, I suggest you jump to a yoyo that can take you into the most advanced tricks. Flip Side or Dark Magic 2. If you got the Fast 201 from us in the last 30 days I'll chip in the 9.99 you spent if you decide to upgrade on YoTricks.
If you already have a Genesis I doubt that you will find any yoyo to play significantly better. Once you get into high end metal yoyos like the Genesis they all play so good it is difficult to say that one is absolutely better than any other. Every one will have their opinion, of course, but I would say you will see more of an upgrade in performance putting in a new bearing - like a center trac or konkave bearing - than you will getting a different yoyo.
I'm getting a yomega maverick tomorrow and I've had one b4 and I loved it my first one I had was when I was in the 4 or 5th grade and I'm in 8th now and seeing your videos made me want to get another one thank you soo much and btw my dad threw the yoyo away cuz I didn't use it for about 2 years and I haven't had one since what a wast of $30 well bam then it was $40
You should be able to do Split the Atom with a Fast 201 as easy as with any other yoyo. You might want to try loosening the gap a little to see if that helps. We have a beginner playlist on our youtube channel. On the YoTricks website we also arrange all the tricks in all the categories according to difficulty so it is easy to find a trick at your level.
Wow, I didn't know that you are the one to actually respond to all the comments! Thanks for everything to teach to us, and btw, is there a review on the Sage and the DV888 yoyo's?
Aaron Merritt We have write ups about each yoyo on our website, and we go into good detail on each. Those are on the product pages for each yoyo. We do not yet have video reviews for those products. yoyotricks.com/yoyo-store/yotricks/the-sage-yoyo/ yoyotricks.com/yoyo-store/yoyofactory/dv888-yoyo/
If the spokes are coming off it cannot be repaired. It sounds to me like you are well past the beginner stage. If you are thinking about getting a different yoyo I suggest you move on to something that can do more advanced tricks like the Luminator Advanced Kit or the Velocity. We have both on YoTricks and we have written reviews of the yoyos on the product pages that tell you all about them.
i have a onestar, it was my first unresponsive yoyo, and for $15, it great. it spins gor over 30, i can go my almost 1 min vombos on that thing! its a really good yoyo to get you started foe unresponsive play. if you know the split bottom mount, you can get it i guess.
I really enjoy these recommendation videos and would definitely like to see more. I'm looking for a yoyo that is good for string tricks for beginners. What do you recommend?
I really want to learn how to yo-yo but I don't know if I should buy the yomega brain or the fast 201? Which do you think is better for absolute beginners?
I see. So you do not recommend Luminator or Velocity anymore? I want to learn loop the loop and other string tricks as well. Which yoyo is recommended?
and what about the OneStar? it's good for begginers? it needs lub? what is the time of sleeping for this yoyo? in general, this yoyo its a good choice?
Are you talking about the Fast 201 or the Velocity? The Fast 201 does not have a pro setting, exactly. It is the type of thing where you just need to experiment and figure out hat works for what you are doing.

I got the fast 201 and it's great i love that when you twist you can make it spin longer, it's pretty good and spins a lot longer that my old yoyo

+yotricks Thanks!
+Vignesh Manikandan get a sage pro pack
+yotricks This channel is awesome . Please keep up the good word :)
What to do with him to come back so quickly?
+Christian Skwara yeah I remember I was given a dollar store "yoyo" that didn't even sleep. Like at all. It would go to the bottom and it would stop INSTANTLY. it was also a dragon ballz yoyo. Omg dragon ballz, dragon ball z.
The Luminator typically sleeps about 30-40 seconds stock. Setup with the unresponsive kit it can sleep 2-3 times as long.
:) It is not that we cannot think of anything, we have plenty of videos to make :)

I doubt it. The spacers should fit in the yoyo pretty tight. Although, if you put the spacer in backwards that could cause the problem you are having.
It's true. We have had a few delays. We are trying to get to them as soon as we can.
The Fast 201 is 9.99 on the YoTricks website, and it is the beginner yoyo we recommend in that price range.
We are currently working on a few other aspects of the site. We are eager to get back to videos, though. I hope we can make some new stuff sooner than later. :)

We are working on a lot of stuff behind the scenes to set things up for next year. The day we can get back to making videos we will :)
I know there are a few good videos on how to clean a yoyo bearing. If you just recently added the lubeI you could probably just drop the bearing in some Mineral Spirits for about an hour and it should come out working just fine.
Every yoyo I mentioned can be setup to play both responsive and unresponsive, except the Protostar which is only unresponsive.
The postal service does not run on Thanksgiving day, but it does run the day after Thanksgiving, so we will ship that day.
They should work, are you having difficulties with the string?
We have just written up a review of the Genesis and the Genesis with hubstacks on our website. Just go to the product pages for each yoyo and we have a detailed written review for each. I suggest you read those on our website and then send me an email through the contact page if you have additional questions. I think the Genesis is a fantastic yoyo and well worth the price.

How much would you be able to spend?
Thank you so much this is an old video but my parents took me this yoyo for a present and I was worried about unresponsive tricks and you make my yoyo career a lot better
The Luminator Advanced Kit is good for some looping tricks, but not all. It would be best to get two different yoyos.
The yoyo will only come back when you pull it up, that is how you give it slack. If you wind the yoyo loosely it should wind up normally. If the yoyo is not coming back up when you pull it up that usually means you need to throw the yoyo harder.
Most orders to the UK take 3-4 weeks to arrive.
We have many things in the works, including new videos. When they are ready we will be posting them.
With the large or the small bearing. The small bearing should be able to sleep a little longer than this with a good throw. The large bearing should sleep much much longer.
I recommend this yoyo for people just starting out, but it is not a yoyo I use myself, because it is meant for beginners.
Actually that yoyo is out of commission these days so I doubt we will ever do a review of that yoyo. However, if yoyojam decides to re-release that yoyo I see if I can get a review done for that yoyo.
I do, I think the Flipside is one of the best Duncan yoyos out right now.
Have you tried replacing the string?
It's good but It hurts my hands a lot Its not too loud. I recommend this Yoyo for Beginners
Noah Plays VG they have gloves if it hurts your hand
Can h finger spin
I have tried a few different strings with this yoyo and they all seem to play about the same. Usually I use 100% polyester, though, because it lasts the longest.
What tricks are you working on?
At this point the type of string you use will not make a big difference. I would just get string that has the color you like. Any of the string we carry on the YoTricks website should work great.
I am not sure what you mean by Advanced Beginner or Pro level, but it sounds like you outgrew the Fast 201 more quickly than most. It is really designed for people who have never yoyoed before, not those with powerful throws and agressive play. If you got the Fast 201 from us in the last 30 days I'll chip in the 9.99 you spent if you decide to upgrade on YoTricks.
Im watching from 2019, but this seems great for a christmas present for my brother
I'm getting a yomega maverick tomorrow and I've had one b4 and I loved it my first one I had was when I was in the 4 or 5th grade and I'm in 8th now and seeing your videos made me want to get another one thank you soo much and btw my dad threw the yoyo away cuz I didn't use it for about 2 years and I haven't had one since what a wast of $30 well bam then it was $40
The starbursts just make it easier to get back up to your hand than other ball bearing yoyos.
Love the fact that it's loud actually lol
Also, can it perform string tricks easily?
It is not great for loops or hop the fence, but it is okay for flips and shoot the moon. It is not the type of yoyo you would want to use for 2A.
@bacteriaking123 the Luminator is our best seller, particularly the Luminator Advanced Kit.
WOW!! That's really cool. So what version are you selling, the newer solid colored ones or the neon collection?
I doubt it will become unresponsive, but it will be better for string tricks.
Thank you what other yoyo should I buy when I get better thank you
I have never tried the Yo2, but I do know the Fast 201 is great for beginners.

The best thing you can do is check their rating. If no one is complaining they are likely legitimate.
Yes, we will be doing much more complicated and techy tricks than we have done in the past.
What yoyo is better for beginners, the Duncan Butterflu or the Duncan Bumblebee?
i have a onestar, it was my first unresponsive yoyo, and for $15, it great. it spins gor over 30, i can go my almost 1 min vombos on that thing! its a really good yoyo to get you started foe unresponsive play. if you know the split bottom mount, you can get it i guess.
Where do you live. Most international order take 2 weeks to 30 days to arrive, maybe longer around Christmas.
+Doge Doge It does not need response pads, and it is okay for your basic string tricks.
The Fast 201 is on the loud side anyway, but if it is extremely loud the bearing may need a touch of lube.
I really enjoy these recommendation videos and would definitely like to see more. I'm looking for a yoyo that is good for string tricks for beginners. What do you recommend?
Will probably e purchasing the luminator unresponsive kit of your website, just wanting to know how long it's sleep time is stock
I really want to learn how to yo-yo but I don't know if I should buy the yomega brain or the fast 201? Which do you think is better for absolute beginners?
Thanks. Is the Duncan Butterfly better than the fast 201
We do plan on making more review videos.
If you are a beginner the fast 201 is easier. The Velocity is able to do more tricks, however.
So if you un screw it a little bit then it becomes unrresponsive and becomes better for string tricks?
I see. So you do not recommend Luminator or Velocity anymore? I want to learn loop the loop and other string tricks as well. Which yoyo is recommended?
I don't think that YYF is actively making that yoyo anymore. If that is the case they we won't be reviewing it.
@christian quinto Between 1-2 minutes, maybe longer.
i not a beginner i can do tricks already but i like the fast 201 because it looks awesome!
Whenever I am having a problem with a yoyo the first thing I try is changing the string. That may be the problem.
and what about the OneStar? it's good for begginers? it needs lub? what is the time of sleeping for this yoyo? in general, this yoyo its a good choice?
Would the Dominator be a better choice for loop tricks?
I just saw it come through. I should be able to put that in the mail tomorrow!
Are you talking about the Fast 201 or the Velocity? The Fast 201 does not have a pro setting, exactly. It is the type of thing where you just need to experiment and figure out hat works for what you are doing.
