Such a great independent band, caught at a special time in their evolution. This is golden. (It scared me the first time I heard it; haunted me for days.) Halcyon Digest is something I first heard at age 57, after I thought I had heard everything; wrong! I've been a huge fan ever since, and have never been disappointed.
Because I'm Japanese, I can't hear these lyrics. But I can understand beautiful and hurts these songs. And tears flow quietly. and others. That's the great thing about their music.
I'm late to the party with this band but my god i've been completely dissociated for the past week unable to feel alive and this has brought me crashing back into myself. Life and music is beautiful beautiful pain

Deerhunter are literally this talented. I saw them at pitchfork 2011 (yes, THAT Nothing Ever Happened performance... at 16). The craziest part is that they can do it again.

In Helicopter, frontman Bradford Cox tries to envision and communicate the thoughts of a young Russian named Dimitry Marakov during his last few days. I read his story and it’s shockingly sad and tragic. This kind of dealings are still happening in Russia today.
this is why deerhunter is one of the best bands of this generation. I have never seen another band accomplish what these guys can do with sound. True artist of music.
Love how they expand on their recorded stuff during live performances. Wish the version of 'Memory Boy' they did on Letterman and this version of 'Helicopter' were on the record instead!
the high pitch sound is actually from the eventide pitchfactor, he just used a quick loop so the high pitch harmonic from the eventide loops over itself. i have both of these pedals. i figured out how to do it haha
