    I took my daughter and her friend out there to the public sunstone area and found quite a few. Then we stopped at one of the paid digs. One of the guys there let the girls hold a dinosaur egg. Really nice folks.
    On our way back we stopped in Plush at the little store/restaurant. Killer steaks. And I mean KILLER!
    Another great trip to Oregon.
    Thanks for posting.

    Perhaps I have been missing the boat by not going down there. I want to look for scorpions at night with the UV light.
    I have wanted to go to the Hart Mt. area for sometime now, there's some rare volcanic rocks out there that I would love to look at and this video makes me want to try and get out there next spring. Thank you.

      I had a fairly close meeting with Mr. scorpion at Smokey Butte this year. Got a good photo of him before I left. Lol

    The Oregon sunstone public collection area and Hart mountain are great places to rockhound for gemstones in Oregon.
    Agate, Jasper, petrified wood, obsidian, common opal and more can be found on and around Hart Mountain.
    If you want to have a great time in South Central Oregon, come dig for sunstones or rockhound Hart Mountain!

    I don't know what was more impressive, those rain clouds and the view or all those sweet finds at Hart Mountain. Pretty solid day at the sunstone mine too. Didn't look like it took you guys very long at either location to load up with some nice finds. Cool to see the scorpion in uv light too! Looks like you guys had a blast camping and rockhounding. Most excellent video, Andrew. 😁🤘

    I've got a big yard rock pulled out of Slate Creek from when I lived out there. I think it's like Felspar or a very large Sunstone..., I don't know what it is but it was definitely a keeper! Crystaline structure peach in color, it weighs close to 300lb.

    What an amazing area! And so many great finds! So was that green jasper? Or some other malachite formations? They sure were gorgeous! And the fabulous jaspers and red dendritic agate, were gorgeous! i want to see some of those big one and the big green stones cut! And awesome quick sunstone hunt. I cant believe how many you found in just a few minutes. So sweet! That area us just beautiful! And your beautiful shot of the view from hart mountain was just jaw dropping! makes me want to head out there! And the wildlife is awesome. Even the scorpion under the blacklight! I used to have a mated pair of scorpions as pets. They were emperor scorpions and they had a black light above their tank. They looked like clay figures that move. Claymation! it was awesome! Thanks for the information on this location. It was really informative and exciting!

    We used to go to Lakeview, Oregon and rock hound. We did the sunstone thing, but once you get out and find the old ocean beds the rocks are amazing..

      I've been going to Lakeview this summer...what area are the ancient Ocean beds in?

    • @GoldChump
      @GoldChump 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@khymchristensen1237 We used to go back in the early 80's. I would imagine things have changed quite bit with development and private property. Also, I wouldn't want to misguide you the desert can be very dangerous. That being said a little research can go a long way understanding the geology so I do recommend that. The way we used to find areas of interest is just exploring lower ends of gullies/washes. Since areas of interest can be buried by sand/silt or just on the surface the material washed down to bases of washes/gullies helps provide insight to what is above. Some spots we found ( and specimens) were so fascinating we could delve into a 4'x4' area for hours mesmerized.

    What great camera footage Andrew! Some awesome finds! Can’t to see what you discovered. Thank you for labeling the rocks you find! I’ve bought books and still can’t figure it out at times!

    Is there a map somewhere of the Hart Mountain area? We will be in that area in a week or so and would love to hound there as well as the sunstone area

    I've watched this video several times over a year. I hope someday to make it there, the Sunstone area. There are so many cool places to go in oregan. Any good advice about that part of the desert?

    • @TheRogueRockhound
      @TheRogueRockhound  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For sure. If you go there, make sure to factor in the UV index and the wind. Ive seen a lot of people lose tents b/c of the wind.
      Thanks for all of the support!

    I wanted to take my grandkids down there this June and was wondering if you could pinpoint those area s for me. I already pinpointed the sunstone area out but the hart mountain areas would would would be great. I enjoyed watching your video and hope you can help

      Hart mountain is generally loaded with material. 42.47893791083596, -119.79695475352038 is a good place to start. If you go up to the plateau, you can walk around nearly anywhere and find neat stuff. The further from the trails, the more you'll find. Hart mtn has some great porcelain jasper so keep an eye out for that.
      Thanks and good luck!!
