It doesn’t take a social genius to see Richard is cocky and selfish. He thinks too highly of himself and it’s painfully obvious. I just wish more people would see it and stop patronizing his businesses.
I watched the episode about cutting the VW bus in half. When it showed welding across the top and body putty an inch deep, I commented are you kidding me. Too much putty. They blocked me and I never watched again.
When I saw the trans am episodes of them visiting Burt, and ruining 3 Old’s 403 blocks I was done. If you care at all about what you and your engine builders are doing an Oldsmobile is about the hardest to fuck up, and they went through 2 before getting 1 half ass running and thought it was gold. Plenty of people have gotten that shit right, building in their driveway or garage.
Just about everything held up on high in public opinion is just another target waiting to be knocked off. The bigger they are the harder they fall is directly associated. Never was too much of a fan of the show or the personality. No doubt there was much positive light shed on the industry by this show. I did enjoy his first mechanic Kaufman. That Falcon he built directly effected the value of those overlooked cars. I don’t know if it’s possible but going back to what worked at first is highly advisable. Don’t like seeing anyone fall. We’re all in it together. Same thing could happen to anyone. Yourself included. Dealing with the public on a large scale like this has to be a serious challenge.
Dennis was the money behind Rawlings. Rawlings is nothing more than a spoiled rotten egomaniac. He showed this quite well on the show where he went into other shops and redid them. I remember the one where the owners girl friend showed up and Rawlings accused the guy of holding out on a car, he took it.
This video does a good job of trying to make it seem like Richard's just a victim of circumstances. When you're the center of every bad argument and called out as being the main cause for destroying multiple different businesses, it's it's Richard. There's no way around it if it wasn't. Richard, people wouldn't be blaming him at every different business. He's a perfect example of what's wrong with this country. Someone who's clearly too emotional and bad at business to be running anything yet he keeps getting handouts and offers. Meanwhile, there are hard- working people in this country who don't get paid s*** at their job that they work at yet they've managed to run their finances, good their whole life without ever ending up in any kind of trouble. But because they don't have the capital behind them, they can't get loans to make other further business ventures. Whereas Richard who comes from a well-off family can fail, fail, fail and still get loans, loans, loans. I mean it really shouldn't have to be a long explanation here to see what's wrong. We shouldn't keep backing horses that can't f****** win a race while the rest of this country is slowly dying. And that's a fact check the life expectancy rate in this country. It's been going down steadily.
Partnerships are tough.. He's the one that started it... Letting a partner handle your brand can be sketchy. Control as much as possible. Hopefully Richard will prevail.
If you survive that many years in the restaurant business you have a great theme, food, experience and management too. I’m not sure Richard would have managed it better lol
At 6:16 you have a video of Richard talking about selling his cars... But in stereo it only plays on the left channel. Users with only the right earbud will never hear him speak. Just a heads up for the future.
Never really cared for the guy!! They had some really cool cars on the show and that's why I watched it but I could tell I wouldn't want to be around Rawlings for any period of time. He had a good knowledge of the cars and the car buisness and he should have stuck with that. Greed usually gets egomaniacs like him. Any man who wears all that jewelry and runs his own hands through his hair a dozen x a minute cares about himself more then anyone else and that's always a problem.
The premise of this show was just for TV, the cars built were rough at best or downright dangerous, restorations or resto-mods don't take days or a few weeks to flip they take considerably longer, Take Harry's Garage on youtube, his Lancia Zagato took 2 years to restore because it was done to a standard better than factory, Project Binky on youtube a resto-mod project has been going on for 8 years shoe horning the running gear of a Toyota Celica GT4 into a 1980's Mini shell, serious engineering challenges. Not the same as sling some crate motor into a ladder chassis, throw some bling at it and a half ass paint job which pretty much was all the builds on GMG.
If you buy one of these cars make sure Richard hasn't hole- shotted it into a guardrail... No Richard! I won't let it go because it was incredibly funny and way stupid.
Regarding to the first part: He probably had a vision and was making sure construction was meeting that vision. All i heard was he cared about the quality of how his business was built. Its easy for non business owners to not understand that and judge.

Many times the person and image portrayed on television, isn’t really who these people are. At the end of the day they are all human beings, no different from anyone else. They are just in the public spotlight and people have expectations of what they think they are but are rarely the truth!! I personally don’t know Richard Rawlings and don’t care to . He seems like an asshole to me and theirs plenty of them everywhere in life. I don’t idolize or care about anyone except my own family. We stayed at a hotel called the Pegasus. All the bars and shops and restaurants are lined down this street. They call it the New Orleans of Florida because there’s more bars within such a small area. I’m a welder and make things from repurposing other things and the restaurant was full of things made like that. The bar stools I still have pictures of somewhere because I thought I might make them. It also had two floors with a pool table upstairs and an outside dining area just outside of where the pool table was. It also overlooked Duvall st. I even remember what I ate that night! You are what’s wrong with this world, a person who has no problem tryin to make someone look bad, with no facts.
Your what Trump calls Fake News
He's been bleeding for a while. Why do you think he sold off all those cars?
He probably knew this lawsuit was coming and was selling the assets off.
I’ll be honest I’m surprised he still has a shop. Seems like he only has 2-3 employees now and the crew to film/edit his YT videos.
Richard must have had wealthy parents and always been spoiled as a kid.
Fast and loud was OK but Richards ego must have been hard to deal with by employees,
His Dad was poor as fuck and they did paper routes as a family.
His dad had three jobs to pay the bills he was not spoiled or rich
It’s hilarious how people assume things and end up being completely wrong. I don’t like Richard’s personality at all but apparently he came from basically nothing and built up a good bank roll on his own.
He was a cop. They have a hard time when people tell them "no" or when they are proven wrong, it's hard for alot of them to accept
If you even bothered to spend 30 seconds fact checking no wealth the kid earned his way from rag to riches and frankly it is his money so if he wants a task or job done a specifc way and he is paying for it well guess what you are going to do it or find another job welcome to the real world.
There’s a reason why ppl distance themselves from him.
He opened up one in Harker Heights, Texas. It wasn't long before it was shuttered. No explanation given
The Gas monkey bar and grill in my area (Fort Hood) closed within a year of opening up. Lots of money lost in that venture, and the building still sits vacant more than 3yrs later.
Ft. Hood had its own issues likely causing this. I went to Killeen High School while my dad was stationed there. That place looks horrible now. Yuck. Sorry that your home area went down so badly.
All planned people start restaurants with this intent to create a loss for tax purposes
LOL, seems Discovery got tired of dealing with him also.
He's only selling his collection in case he loses the lawsuit and liens are placed on his cars
Doubt it.
Kinda sounded like the restaurant did well without him but didn't want to reward Richard for the name. He seems like a TURD bandit but that doesn't allow you to capitalize off his brand for free.
Me and my dad met him at a car show when I was 13 and he was very nice to us, got a picture with him and everything, sad to hear he’s acting like this
Richard was just on a podcast and talked about how Gas Monkey was just created for tv. It's not surprising that there are issues.
If you've watched the show, you know Rawlings. "Bark bark, yip yip. I'm going to have a beer and you'll all get fired".
“I’m going to actually sell these cars and start collect much more expensive cars, better cars”. Pretty much shows his mentality.
Who knew a rich narcissistic owner would be difficult to work for?
yeah, makes you wonder why all his senior car builders are gone and now he has young fresh blood to take advantage of.

I had some involvement in the bar/show back then and that guys email pretty much summed it up . I would come home from dallas and tell people that the bar was like a teenagers house whos parents were gone all the time. My god what a constant disaster.... Ya know there isnt much difference between Bernie Ebbers and most of these other guys with money. They just leave carnage in their wake and keep it moving to the next money maker... I watched the episode about cutting the VW bus in half. When it showed welding across the top and body putty an inch deep, I commented are you kidding me. Too much putty. They blocked me and I never watched again.
Me and my gf met RR at a las Vegas car show in 2017, chatted with him for a couple minutes, he was super nice.
I saw Richard as this end point since the start and was the reason why I could never get into it. Shame too since Aaron was soo talented.
When I saw him pay $5,000 for a Cordoba because he was drunk, I knew he was in trouble. No shock here.

Alcoholic!!! Guy needs a AA meeting!
I stopped watching years ago. None of this is surprising. That old adage really fits, "A fool and his money...."
If you buy one of these cars make sure Richard hasn't hole- shotted it into a guardrail... No Richard! I won't let it go because it was incredibly funny and way stupid.
