Brady Street was the hippie village in the 1960’s and 1970’s. My brother and me used to hop on the bus in Bayshore each Saturday morning in grade school, spend the morning playing basketball, swimming and having lunch at the Milwaukee Athletic club, walk 4 blocks to Gimbal's dept store on Wisconsin and water street, to buy some old coins, then get on the bus for home. We would hop off on Brady street, shop in some of the stores, buy a wall hanging or some knickknack, jump back on the bus to Bayshore and walk the mile to home. The pool had a lunch counter on one end and the guy who worked as a cook there was Arthur Bremer, the man who shot Gov George Wallace in May 1972. I remember people at the club lunch counter talking about it. The night Gov Wallace was shot I was with my father going to clothing store to buy a sport coat for a class trip.
