Thank you so much Adrian! I'd forgotten about this song (and album.) It's darkly beautiful. YES - more goth/post-punk. Sisters of Mercy, Peter Murphy, Mission UK, The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees...
Really the greatest guitar TH-cam. Thanks again for another amazing video. Would be great to see the electric part as well, but amazing as is. Also loved how you pointed out Bauhaus was/is more of a post-punk band (where a lot of us older fans agree they belong).
@@opiumdennis7249 I don’t want to spoil it for you, but Peter Murphy doesn’t come out well in it, and that probably explains why their multi-million £ swan song fell apart last year.
I quite often listen to you play through songs that I don’t know to see wether I’d like to learn them and I find this beautiful and can’t wait to try it. Thanks Adrian!
The fact that Peter Murphy does play the guitar when doing this song live on his solo carrer makes me think he actually composed this song, although it is also very reminiscent of Davd J's own solo material, so it could have been either. Great tune and job! That chorus bit always eluded me. Your song choices are always stellar, keep them coming! Greeetings from sunny Valparaiso, Chile.
Oddly enough, this week I have been doing a GOTH WEEK on a Discord server, introducing the other members to goth bands. Yesterday was the turn of Bauhaus and this was one of the 4 songs I chose to introduce them to. You have excellent timing, Mr Adrian sir!
Thank you! This is one of my all time favourites! I have worked most of it out but you just tidied it up the "Oooh ooooh ooh" bit. BTW the last couple of times I saw them Peter Murphy played this on an acoustic so I think he probably did in the studio too.
Love the "oh oh oh" section personally, essential bit imo, and the most difficult bit to figure out by ear when i first learned this. *full disclosure, i had never gotten that part right, until now. Thank you Adrian!
This is bizarre, I'm 60 years old and although punk and new wave was my thing (and still is) the likes of Bauhaus passed me by. But now, I'm totally addicted to this song. It's easy enough to play, but getting the vibe just right is trickier, but I love it. Just keep on doing what you do, do I have any requests? Yup, surprise me with something else I didn't realise I love!
This is great stuff. I loved the Bela Lugosi Halloween video as well and looking forward to this year's Halloween tune. Would love to hear some Love and Rockets (Express is such a great album!), Thanks for these great lessons!
Hmmm very interesting. This is an approach that I’m discovering some of my favorite artists to be using this technique. Walking a note up or down, letting open strings ringing, in pairs, groups and arpeggios.
"Alice", though basic, is the first that comes to mind. Love that track, idk if it's worthy of a lesson though? Bass line does it for me, can't do that lesson without it imo. Again, simple, but love that one. What did you have in mind, curious. I'm a Sisters fan as well. Some Rozz-era Christian Death would spring forth an insta-like from me personally, be it Rick Agnew or Valor on guitar. Maybe "Romeo's Distress"? The flowers of doom all bloom in prosperity, especially when it comes to Adrian's lessons. Pearls of great price, the lot of them iow.
I was thinking Marian or Poison Door. Something from around 84-85 with Hussey and just before Gary Marx left. Always loved that period and the live recordings at that time are great, I actually prefer them to the official recordings except perhaps the Peel session. Agree about Adams' bass, fundamental to their sound.
I have one Bauhaus album from back in those days, the cellophane is still on it. Never played it. Until now, sure enough it's the one. Does that mean I'm grown up now? 😟
@@herschoolcolors Nah, they are unique, covers of their songs might have something about them, but they won’t be bettered, not even close, for all the flaws.
The cream of guitar instruction.
Oh, to be the cream.
@@Steve_ATL beat me to it. Also they cream of viewership if we all know THAT track.
You have this uncanny ability to make videos almost entirely tuned to my music taste, amazing, can’t wait to work on this one
Ha ha ha I was JUST thinking the same thing
I had a very loud Bauhaus session last weekend, the neighbours loved it, they must have, or they would have complained, surely…
This is from my favorite Bauhaus album, and one of the first cd's I ever bought as a teenager.
Your post punk lessons always remind why I suscribed. Awesome dude, keep them coming.
I'm continually dumbfounded by your exquisite taste in selecting songs for lessons!

Thank you for the great lessons. "Slice of Life" is top of my list of Bauhaus songs I'd love to learn to play if you're ever feeling Bauhausy again.
Love this song! Nice tutorial as always
Flash of youth shoot out of darkness! What a great line

LOVE it... I'm just reading David J's autobiography!

One of my favourite Bauhaus songs ever since it came out. Awesome, thank you so much.

It’s been a while! You always pick the greatest tunes.
Yes!! More Bauhaus please!
Wow, I only listened to Bauhaus two days ago properly again since their heyday and here they are...
I love this song! Never thought I’d see a tutorial on it, very pleasant surprise
Love the amazing lesson as always. Would love to see you do more lessons on bauhaus songs in the future. Keep the great work up!
I love this song, thanks for doing this one!
Great choice. Thanks for this lesson.

Add me in!
Have you thought about a Modest Mouse lesson? Love Isaac Brock's guitar playing.
A great selection--I love this song

I love this song!!! yes please more Goth-songs!
Great song & lesson! Would love to see something by the Church in the next ones.
The electirc guitar part is the cream
Great choice!!!
Always amazing instruction and song choices. Would love to see Deep In The Woods by Birthday Party
Just saw Love and Rockets a couple weeks ago and I was like all we need is Peter Murphy and we have Bauhaus!
Wonderful stuff!
Hmmm very interesting. This is an approach that I’m discovering some of my favorite artists to be using this technique. Walking a note up or down, letting open strings ringing, in pairs, groups and arpeggios.
Thanks for taking the time to cover this one Adrian, I absolutely love Bauhaus!! 😎👍🎸
as like you..,.i dont look goth or live goth...but i do like some goth music...bauhaus being my number one to go for this kind of music
I saw Peter Murphy play it on guitar live with Bauhaus in 1998. I don't know if he already did it back in the days (1983), but it's possible.
The only band I thought enough of to get their name tattoo'ed on my hide. Thanks for this.
Wow!
Nice! I was wondering when you would circle back to the Bauhaus again!
How weird. Was listening to this today. Haven't played it for years. How about some Sisters for Halloween. You know you want to😂

Poison Door or On The Wire would be great. Those B sides from the singles for the first album were as good as the tracks on the album itself.
Would love a These Immortal Souls video
Yeesssss thank you!!!
I play my drum kit with headphones on so my Neighbors won't be bothered by the noise...
And suddenly I am 15 again and in the 5th form common room bragging that my copy of 'The Sky's Gone Out' had the limited edition live album
More goth! I would love In The Flat Field
Possibly surpassed by the MGMT cover.
“Wake up! Eat jelly!”
Could you please do Thunderbuck ram by Mott the hoople?
Please?!
All we ever wanted…. Was you to do a video on this song
Only Adrian would do this
can you do the man with x-ray yes by Bauhaus? or any song by Samhain?
I have one Bauhaus album from back in those days, the cellophane is still on it. Never played it. Until now, sure enough it's the one. Does that mean I'm grown up now? 😟
How about some Love & Rockets? Saudade?
Now theres a tune.
More Danial Ash please sir.
What model Martin is that please? Thanks
👍👍👍
Like deployed 👍
🎙🎸✅️
Metal Mickey please
Not goth, but New Model Army would be great or Big Country/skids
Both good choices. Would love to see inwards by BC
What is that acoustic guitar?
Bested, somehow, by the Xiu Xiu cover!

Memories of trying to find 50p for the gas
You are also using a microphone on the guitar. That's gear.
It's a Neumann KM184 transformerless cardioid SDC, and I believe he uses API 500 series mic pres. Not sure what interface he has now.
I don't think that Bauhaus would be too happy for calling their music "gothic".
