He's actually right in a lot of cases. It's ancient where you start getting the majority of the skills in dota to be consistent with each other. Before that each player has large gaps in their skills and skill levels between each category.

This tells a lot about how Smurf can just destroy lower level game. The game sense gap is so huge. They will not walk in a 2 v 3 if it doesn't make sense. We the normal player just fight then see.

To be fair, this dudes lack of "feeling of the game" might be due to the fact he's having someone in his ear telling him what to do with every move. He's not thinking for himself, and yes some things he should be, but try to approach the trainee with this thought in mind. That they're trying to doing things they've probably never done before at the pace of the top players in the world. They're relying on you for every move, so when there are a few seconds of downtime between commands, his brain is probably processing "why did you have me do this" rather than his next move. Being coached live seems STRESSFUL ASF
Yeah I play mostly support and sometimes my Buddy live coaches me as carry. He tries not to micromanage me too much, but I still find myself reacting slower in between directions.
@João Gustavo Aragão Martins in my experience live coaching is still useful. It definitely provides something that replay reviews don’t. Need a combination of both.

i can tell this guy doesnt play dawnbraker by the way he plays her, even lane phase he seems clueless about how powerful his hero is so im not sure why he asked for live coaching with a hero he doesnt play (if hes learning the hero then he shouldve asked for coaching after hes got experience with the hero)
@@Antido0 the purpose of the live coaching was to be an alternative to the Educational Smurf series which was ethically dubious. The idea is to show how you don’t have to be high skill to win at Dota if you play the map properly. So that’s why BSJ super micro manages. It’s supposed to be like he’s playing through the lower ranked player.
Also BSJ mentioned in this video that the student plays a lot of DB lol. Some people just learn heroes slower than others.
@João Gustavo Aragão Martins I agree with all that, and replay reviews are generally better to learn, but live coaching is still great to actually develop habits.
For example, my coach can tell me the optimal farming pattern with which I should farm camps and why in a replay review, but i find I’ll develop the instinct more when I’m actually experiencing myself do those farming patterns. Especially since Dota contains so much nuance and many exceptions that the optimal way might not be optimal at any point in the game. So live coaching will help you get a feel of those exceptions plus help to sort out the micro-efficiencies I should executing as I farm even if I’m playing the map correctly.
That’s why I recommend a mix of both.
as an archon player this feels painful to watch but i'm pretty sure i subconsciously fuck up even more without even being aware of it
Yeah, I felt the same way, also archon. My laning phase and decision making feels a lot better than this guy's... I automatically backpack items when salving, draw creep aggro constantly, get last hits way more efficiently, know better when to be aggressive and when to retreat... I'm a EU player though, maybe MMR vs skill is different across our regions? As I feel like my rank is quite correct, I'm of equal skill of most people I'm being matched against (disregarding the occasional smurfs and idiots).

Bro you conditioned him to listen to everything you say. You try to micromanage him like it's you who is playing but you can only use voice commands as inputs. I am not a great dota player but I am a firearms instructor and if I did that to my trainees they'd short circuit and do something massively dangerous.
Approach those people like they are thinking for themselves, and just haven't spent that much time doing what you do all the time. That they can be as good as you if they wanted to put in the work. This guy will probably take away more by watching this video than what he learned actually playing.

That's actually really below average offlane player. The amount of overextending on the lane or throwing hammer and then destroying all trees with it and showing where he is and other stuff like stun chain timing is more like crusader/archon rank. As former ancient player dropped back to legend due to behavior score it's honestly kinda free mmr to play against this.

How does someone with such a lack of awareness and game sense get to 3100 mmr? Players I know in crusader have way more sense of what’s going on in the game.
No offense to some of these players, but genuinely confusing to me...I often play far better than many of them in these coaching sessions but yet they're in Legend or Immortal yet I'm stuck in Archon...I think my issue is that I'm trying to be too smart, I'll try out weird offlaners for fun that I get really good with but who cannot 1 v 9 and thus I'm consistently at the mercy of whether my mid or safelane know what the hell they're doing. In short, my rank has been 80 percent determined by my other cores, maybe this is my issue. It's really obnoxious when you go 10/1 kdr, absolutely crushing it, and then your hard carry is like 3 and 9 kdr and feeding. But this just shows me that...indeed MMR is just a number. Maybe statistically the higher MMR you have, the more you know and are able to put that into gameplay usage, however, there are PLENTY of ppl in lower ranks who know exactly what they're doing they just have awful team comps or are not playing Pos 1 or 2 and thus rely on others' skills or lack thereof. Makes me think I should just learn to play some POS 1 or 2 heroes to get easy MMR because I really, really enjoy POS3 cause it's fun for me in laning phase as as far as its role in the game, but I'm dead-tired of ppl going Anti-Mage and feeding 6 times to the enemy because they don't know what they're doing. And the sad part? Part of the reason I don't play POS 1 is because it's so boring to me...I LIKE to be the annoying guy who does crazy shit and makes space for the team and tanks teamfights and pushes into the enemy at the edge of safety which is why I LOVE pos 3. I'm actually sorta worried I'd find the game boring because playing POS 1 is so predictable as far as what you build in items and so on whereas my offlaners get to be more weird and fluid
Just play dota for fun. If you're not going pro this s*** doesn't matter, trust me. Just have fun and do what you want as long as you aren't griefing your teams.

My reason is because I don't play pos 1 or 2 which means I am routinely placed with people who either don't know how to carry so my win rate is something like 50 percent no matter how good my personal game is. Simple as that. I personally am not merely Archon but because I was placed in Archon it's incredibly hard to rank up despite the gains I've made in my own skill level and knowledge since I really love playing Pos 3/offlane. Sure, some offlaners can 1 v 5 enemy teams, maybe, if you're really good, but most of the time, if your carry is feeding, you can be a god tier player and will still lose the game to a well fed enemy team who is actually trying. Your casual answer just isn't sufficient or helpful, it's more of a taunting "you're not as good as you think you are answer" to which I reply, that's absolute bullshit and my personal stats prove otherwise. The reality is that Rank in DOTA 2 is probably less than 20 percent your own actions considering that, Pos 1 and Pos 2 more often have higher influence in a game than merely 20 percent per person thus, if you're not playing Pos 1 or Pos 2 mostly, then your role in your own rank will be at 20 percent or less than that on average. Thus, yes, there is a reason I'm in Archon and it isn't because I'm not improving, it's because the only strategy for ranking up that is reliable is to get really good at a hard carry and then 1 v 5 enemy teams. Period. I know my stuff.

@@andalinta Haven't been playing in months if not a year. Been enjoying other games. DOTA 2 is great fun but honestly, I've played it since 2013 or so. There are so many great games that have been coming out that I just don't really want to spend an hour at a time per game with something I've spent thousands of hours in already.

Sorry but there is no way this is legend imho. I have seen heralds and guardians better than this, and mean no offence either. I have seen worse at those ranks as well. Also could be just a person new to DB though.

For real, you're a lower rank than this dude because you obviously play worse on average. This is just one game and it's only 3k MMR which isn't that good, it's practically halfway to being decent at the game. And from what I've seen from 3k MMR players it's a complete mixed bag. Some are decent and climbing, some are complete and absolute dog s*** and belong in herald. My guess would be this guy got carried a bit and is probably more like 2.5k and isn't likely to be climbing higher anytime soon. Most of my games were either won or lost from someone's complete lack of awareness as to what was going on. It's a s*** show.

this replay showed me why I found it wayyyy harder to get out of legend than any of the following brackets - not to shit on the guy too much, but legend is full of people like that. mechanically bad with the hero (despite being fucking platinum tier wtf) and little to no game sense. and on top being SLOOOOOWWWWW. like, you have to tell them what to do like 15 times and it still takes them ages to react, whether its rosh or smoke calls or simple things during laning or going back from a bad fight instead of hard committing and dying for no reason.
Can confirm, I am archon/legend and all my Ancient and above friends tell me I am slow. But I am faster than Herald :P

Legend player, 15-16 minute echo saber. I’ve been spamming dawn lately and I usually get it around 11-13, try to farm for a 15 minute shard for the immunity and control. Like BJS said, you need to play around soul ring and use spells on camps.
As a hero like dawn with the aoe/cleave you can stack the large camps to make it more efficient, or even hammer two camps at a time. When fighting the large camp in triangle I always try to hammer the ancients as well, to either stack or slightly poke depending on the game State.

Watching more, I was questioning the BKB call, and then you said not to. Pudge ulti cuts through it, shard can counter CK stun semi reliably, that just leaves techie nukes and batter assault, which aren’t a huge concern based on dawns other teammates. If someone else has a deso I’ve been building crystalis/Daedalus. It works well with her passive, Q, and echo saber. Gives more damage than deso without the reduction, but if somebody else has it, it’s not a factor.

Yea, I noticed several times I would have murdered him as CK in this vid. Not sure why their CK didn't just save the ult to murder him every single time he got out of position. I would have. He already couldn't lane and with that lack of self awareness a single ward would have ended that game quickly imo.
