You should rewatch the first episode you guys missed Almost every 👻. First sighting is her tour "the stairs aren't forgiving in the least" first time you see the plague Dr. He followers her almost the whole episode in reflections, in the children's bathroom outside while discussing the spider. Behind miles at the dinner table in the fireplace during breakfast. Are some of the spots.

Finished the show yesterday and it was so good! Shame that some people gives it negative reviews just because they thought it was less scary than Hill House. Great story
It is less scary than hill house but other than that it is perfectly splendid.
I didn’t even think Hill House was scary. It was more of an emotional family drama with creepy things mixed in. It feels like people are really exaggerating how “scary” it was just to make Bly Manor look bad in comparison.
It's a little slower than Hill House, I think that's people's main issue. However, I loved it and had no problem with the pace at all. It just took it's time with the characters and the story, and that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.
I love this season, totally different than Hill House but the subject it is different.

"Creepy, not scary". Arguably how horror *should* be done. Jump scares are so cheap and massively over-used in horror. The odd one here and there is fine, but real horror should be built on a growing feeling of unease and dread. In my humble opinion, of course.
Atmosphere is what makes a situation scary. Horror is saturated with either gruesome imagery or as you mentioned, cheap jump scares which need a rise in tension to make effective leading to obvious tension builds in a majority of horror that lets anyone who pays attention to structure work out either a jump scare is coming or the horror movie directors favourite, the tension build, the fake jump, into the real jump. Slow building tension is something this show has done well for two seasons straight, leading to people never knowing there is a shock coming with the cheap instant tension tricks many use.
This isn't really horror tbh. Still enjoyed it though.
I agree but I love both depending on my mood. There’s something about those cheap, borderline cringe horror movies that are just fun to watch 😁

I found the scene where Miles whispers into Danielle's ear so fucking creepy too. How he distances himself from Flora with what he says, acting as if he was older through up major flags there was something up with him in a not normal way.
It's especially creepy when you know Peter Quint sexually abused Miles in the book. It explains why he acts that way and Miles definitely seems to be influenced by him.

@@jiminsjimjams9477 that wasn't miles. In those moments he was possessed by Peter (confirmed in later episodes). Same thing with flora. Almost every scene where they seem to be acting strange is because Rebecca and Peter have taken over their bodies.
In this episode, the "Come home" in the letter reminded me of the "Come home Nell" written in the wall in Hill House. I just love how they are two different tv shows, but there are little hints of one in the other.
It was "Welcome home Nell" but I see your point and agree a lot!

@@inkeriananas Same. I thought Bly was very good, but Hill House was exceptional. Bly was a good successor, though. I'm glad they didn't just do the same thing and tried something different.

I don’t blame you about the background ghosts. I was actually just thinking recently about how hard it must be for any of you reactors to spot background ghosts because it seems like most reactors use some pretty intense ring lights.
And they are not easy to spot. I watched the show in the dark on a regular 32' TV. And I saw about three. And to be honest the point of them is to not see them, and more like subliminally noticing them. ;)

The premise of the first episode is too show that bly unlike hill house, is very open and inviting. It seems like a “great good place” hence why Dani feels comfortable to walk around at night because it doesn’t seem scary to her.

Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The language is quite ornate but it is really good. I'm halfway through it already.

Hi Nikki, In response to your question about kids who go to school way from home. I went to boarding school from age 13-18 and I loved it. It's certainly not for everyone but you are provided with every comfort neccessary. In my experience at the two schools I attended, if you don't feel good you are expected to get up and go to school or go to the health center. If you are deemed to be genuinely ill by the health center, then you stay there through out the school day. During this time you are expected to rest, not catch up on work or anything like that, to ensure you get better as quickly as possible. With regards to talking to people there are so many resources available. You can talk to your dorm parent/housemistress, your advisor, your coaches, the school councilor, or even just a member of staff you grow close to. I was particularly fond of some of the members of the kitchen staff, who I would confide in when I was having a bad day. There are so many people ready to support you and many members of faculty will live on campus, so they are available at almost any time of day.
What if you get scared at night or have a nightmare??
@@kathleenclark815 I would usually just go back to sleep because when I woke up and realized I was in my dorm I knew I was in a safe place with plenty of security. However, you also might have a roommate or, if you're in a single, loads of people on your hall. So theres definitely a friend you can wake up if you really needed. Also theres always a dorm parent on duty in the dorm each night you if you wanted to go to them you could.
The whole house was built on sound stage! And the outside of the house was done with green screens! It was filmed in Vancouver.
Don't worry about trying to see the ghosts in the background. You can only really see them if your brightness is whacked right up as high as possible and your face is practically right up in front of the screen. I watched a couple of videos about them and that's what they had to do.

If you guys didn't realize when Dani went to see that the doll was standing straight up and the camera was on the dolls in the background creepy music made one of them moved. I suppose Steven caught that in editing and showed Nikki though.

Shows/movies like this are more fun when you watch them alone at night with the lights off, that's pretty much how I watch these type of shows. Started doing this back in 2001 with The 6th Sense and I'm scared of shows like this, but I get a kick out of it.

This is my first time watching this show....but I feel like Mrs Grose, or whatever her name is pronounced, could be a ghost, or ghoul, and the kids definitely sees, and talks to ghosts in general...and made the nanny lady see her....ghost obviously doesn't eat, and we haven't seened her eat anything, or pretends to eat...this show is weird, and confused at times...but I'm also intrigued.
