    I have three Samsung digital signage displays(monitors) and I have no remote. I have RS232c ports and PC/laptops BUT I don't know how to control them using what I have. Is there any software people can recommend for controlling the displays?

    Hi guys… I already have an Ip controled tv (Sharp) and i plan to replace it by a larger one; Sony, Samsung, Panasonic… I don't know yet. I'm a devolopper so I know about TCP/IP etc. But i always strugle to find the technotes with codes and protocols… Is there a special place on the net where I could find all of these technical info I need ?
    Thanks for your help.

      Luis no videos yet that I'm aware of, imagine Atlona may have some on their site or TH-cam. We do have a Private Group we're launching soon, where we will help Clients with this very kind of thing. And I'll add it to the roadmap of videos for this channel

    Thanks for the info. How would control over CAT5e/ CAT6 work with control and video distribution? I am building a new home and am wondering what I need for it.....

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Hendricks it depends a little bit on the specific solution you use for Video Distribution. But in general you’re able to send Video and Control over the Cat5e/6 with baluns. If you don’t know what system you’re using we recommend running 3 cat6 per TV.

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Hendricks when you use a system like Control4, Savant, or URC and you send a command to the TV, it will send the commands via the video distribution. Some instances we can send hook the Cat5/6 straight into the Control4/Savant and send commands that way, or over the network. Just kind of depends on the application as a whole - hope that helps

      Thanks, it does. I am planning to use Control4 and am buying all new TVs (Probably Samsung) 3 cat6 (2 shielded). Builder won't let me go outside their low voltage vendor. Thanks for the info, again!

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Hendricks haha that’s alright. We can always help after the joke closes ;) and we recommend shielded in our book, but honestly you’ll be ok with Cat6.

    Love your videos! Currently working with an Integrator in Dallas, TX for a Theater, Family Room, and Master Bedroom setup including Savant. My requirement has been that all devices are IP controllable. I already have two Samsung TV’s which we have confirmed are IP controllable. We’ve also selected AVR’s and a Projector which has been confirmed. Do you know if there is a list of devices published that are IP controllable with Savant? Or can you confirm if an AppleTV would be? Also, any recommendations for BluRay players and TV service that has IP controllable boxes (I believe my local options are Comcast, U-verse, or DirecTV)? Thanks!

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Filley thx for the support and for watching. We really appreciate it. Apple TV is IR, some non supported work arounds but as a general rule it’s IT. Same with Comcast. Direct TV is IP. Not sure on Uverse- and we’re talking about putting together some lists people can reference but hasn’t happened yet.

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Filley Roku supports IP control and works well. We use Apple TV inside of Savant systems all the time, and while it’s IR it still responds really well. Here’s what our CTO said on Direct TV, and your guys can verify it inside of Savants tool for drivers - DirecTV works very well via IP. The small genie client boxes don’t turn on via IP though. So some integrators choose to use IR instead which works well. We usually turn power savings off so the box doesn’t go to sleep. Then IP works very well, but you use a little more energy. Also if there is a power outage you may need to manually turn the DirecTV box back on, never had a client have an issue with it

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Sony 1000 4K blu-ray supports IP control. Sure there are others but that’s usually our go to if a Client is planning on 4K.

    If I want to pre-wire for RS232 control, what kind of wire should I run (just an RS232 cable or is there some other cable that can be run and an adapter placed on the end). Also, is there a list or easy way to search for TVs that support RS232 or IP control?

    • @SmartHomeBrothers

      gruntman1985 run cat6 - not really a resource I’m aware of. We’re working on a tv list right now of ones we prefer, but couple weeks out still

    Great Video, someone commented on using Logitech universal remotes. Although they do work most of the time they are not foolproof. If the state of the TV changes it will go out of sync and you would have to resync the remote and try again. That is why I replaced my Logitech remote in the HT with a control4 EA1 system. As long a IP is set as a static addresses I have not have any issue in several months.
    Good Luck.

    Granted, IR doesn't offer two-way control like RS-232 and IP, but IR can work well IF the device supports discrete ON and OFF control commands. Your discussion, I think, glosses over this and gives the impression that all IR devices only support the toggle ON/OFF command and therefore are incapable of discrete ON and OFF commands. While this is true with some devices (usually very inexpensive ones), it's not true for most mid-tier and above devices. I know this video is not intended to be a master course in device control, and some details need to be abbreviated for time/clarity reasons.

    Hello Tym great informative video concise and informative. Only question it left me with is, What do you use to control your TV through IP? i.e. are there software programs for your computer or??? Which I guess makes me think of another question but I'm sure it has to be a yes but does that mean I can control my TV from anywhere online? Thanks!

    You can't see IR light... The LED diode that is blinking on the Tv is just a indicator that signal is recived and have nothing to do with IR.
