  • Should you buy Video Distribution, and HDMI Switch, or Matrix? In this video, I explain the difference between Video Distribution and TV/Video Control and look at which is right for you.

If you've cut the chord, and are only watching streaming services, then like Netflix, Hulu, etc. You probably don't need Video Distribution.
If on the other hand you like the higher quality video you get from a Blu-ray player, still use Satellite or Cable Receivers then Video Distribution may be a good fit.
What's important to know, is that even if you don't have Video Distribution, or an HDMI Switch, you can still control your TVs and Videos.
And... odds are you're home is prewired so that you can add Video Distribution anytime down the road if you change your mind.
If you're looking at 4K and using HDMI extenders for longer runs, than you definitely want to look at Video Distribution, and you probably should consider fiber as well.

For the Tech guys, a Plex media server with HDhomerun(4 cable tuners) can almost do everything. Plex talks to everything, tv, ps4, iphone, etc. and Itunes. The only thing missing is live camera feed.

Could you do an in depth video about wiring fiber throughout the home? This is something that just isn’t on TH-cam yet.
I have been doing some video distribution research lately and watched several of your videos while traveling on my trip to Atlanta. While in Atlanta I went to a concert at the new Mercedes Benz stadium and noticed the place is COVERED in screens. Being the nerd I am, I found a tv in the bathroom to get a look behind to see what type of video distribution they were using and there was single fiber connection and a cat6 ran from the wall plate behind the tv into an unlabeled black box and came out as hdmi to the tv. What more can you tell me about this?
I’d also just like to hear more about wiring the home for fiber because I’d love to install a future proof 10gb network in my home and I’m sure fiber is where it’s at.
    Thank you!
Also want to note I may not be 100% accurate on those connections because I was using my iPhone flashlight standing weirdly at the baby changing station looking behind the tv hoping no one would walk in....

Just found a video that I thought was cool explaining the fiber network in the Mercedes Benz Stadium and wanted to share.

Hi! I have a mac, pc, and two monitors. I would like to be able to switch between the two and have the monitors be extended instead of duplicating. I have purchased a HDMI from another brand, The switching function is perfect, but the device only allows me to have two monitors mirror and not extend. Do you have a product that I could purchase? that can fulfill what I require? Able to Switch and Extend. Thanks!

I'm wiring up a new home and your videos have definitely been the most helpful. I was wondering what do i wire all theses sources to in order to distribute them to each individual tv. And do i need a cable box for each tv from the control center to each tv. Thank You

Chris Lewandowski Chris it depends a little on your end goal or plan. If you’re using Video Distribution, you’ll Home run everything into the Media rack which will be in a central location. There’s a HDMI switch, think of it like a surround receiver, only it can output to more TVs. Your sources plug into the HDMI switch, and then the video is sent over the Cat6 or Fiber to your TVs using an HDMI extender.

Chris Lewandowski each source - blu Ray, Apple TV, cable box, etc. gives you 1 stream or instance. So I can watch ESPN from one cable box, and I can play that one channel out to all TVs in the home at the same time. If I want to watch ESPN on one TV and the Disney channel on another TV then I need two cable boxes. Usually we see 2-3 cable boxes, a blu-ray, and some kind of streaming device like an Apple TV or roku. That’s a broad generality but hopefully that helps

Thank you very much. That is very helpful. How exactly would I control all of that over ip control if everything was connected to the network ?

how would you handle an upgrade of an old savant matrix system? Am using it to disribute 3-4 satellite receivers to 3-4 staterooms on a yacht plus distrubiton of audio within each room. System does IR control as well so only thing in rooms is the TV and speakers. I wonder if there is a way to go wireless? Or something that allows for smart tv type local control. I do not have reliable INternet on the boat.

I have a few questions. We are about to start building and I am trying to be as prepared as I can be. First, I would like to do a 5.1 surround in the living room and whole home audio. If the receiver for the surround is in the media closet and the whole home audio. would the surround speakers be a zone for the whole home audio as well or would I need different speakers in the living room for those? Next, would something like Logitech remotes be required to control all the devices in the media closet for each tv that is setup for video distribution? Thanks. There is more to this than I thought.

What brands of HDMI switches or splitters have you had good success with for 4K over 50 feet? Need 1 input & 2 output to connect AVR to output video signal to both a TV & projector.

building new home. you mentioned fiber. I don't have fiber service to the home area "yet", but it may come later. Where do I get fiber so I can help to try and future proof the house before the drywall goes up? Also are there different types, and approx how does the cost compare to the older technologies, Cat 6, coax etc

    • @SmartHomeBrothers
      @SmartHomeBrothers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Fiber comes in a couple varieties. If your runs are under 150' you can use 'OM2' if you're runs are over 150' then you'll want to use 'OM3' fiber. Not sure where locally you can source it, but if you can't find any, we do drop ship fiber. Just email design@tymhomes.com and we'll send you a quote

Best way to future proof a new or remodel house is to home run pvc pipe to each location.
