    I must've watched dozens of his videos trying to decide what to use as a gym lock, finally decided on this.

    Thanks for this. I've been struggling with a very high-low American 1100 and the way you hold your tension wrench for this lock helped me pick it a couple of times in minutes. Keep up the good work!

      +Andy P thanks. Glad to hear it helped out. Keep up the good work.

    We used these as safety lock-out locks at my work. I've been trying to figure out how to pick them and thought "I wonder if LPL has a video on one?" 🤣 I'm glad you do, I might be able to get this one off my lunchbox now!

      Ew what was inside

      These are a relatively difficult pick - normally requiring a few weeks of working your way up since it has various security pins inside. Most models are vulnerable to a bypass driver though. It's a thin rod with like a flag on the back - you just shove it in and turn to open the latch

    Every day is a school day :-) yet another variant I did not know anything about. Now I'll have to go and design a keyway in my initials...

      LOL, this keyway isn't far off. just flip it and shorten it. :-)

    Thank you LPL! Long time viewer, started picking a little while ago. Just getting ready to dig into my first 1100, really glad I saw this vid, otherwise finding the tiny steel balls in my carpet would be the hardest challenge from Master Lock yet.

    I bought one of these NIB at a locksmith shop recently. It's a 5 pin lock with the typical trapezoid shaped American Lock key. Turning the key gets a lot of resistance from a heavy spring. I've been able to pick it once, with a half diamond pick in 22.000. I'm assuming it has a chamber for a 6th pin and some bearings. Never gutted it yet, but doubt it's different than in this video.

    Looks like i picked up a good first lock to try and pick :D
    Used to have fun with padlocks and shimming. Pulled out my 15 year old cheap lockpicking set and found this lock laying around. So i should be here a while...

    I've seen many American padlocks but never 1 with that key, so none of the other stuff either.

      THis one is pretty unusual. I believe available only by special order.

    Those damn holes in the other core screw me up sometimes. I've dropped multiple pins out of there not paying attention.
    I'm guessing they're there to make repinning easier?

    the .015 hook and the .040 prybar is that in a kit from covert instruments? Or where is the best place to look as I'm only picking American 1100 LOTO locks at work after they have been cut off so i can reykey or remake a new key and put on a new shackle after they have been cut off. I currently use an AM5 Lishi tool to accomplish this but have a few that I can not pick open using that tool.

  • @acidforblood
    @acidforblood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess my Monstrum XLL picks won't work on this. I'll need to order some .015 picks I guess. Time for more shopping. Luckly the Monstrum XLL case has lots of space for more picks. So far I have 40 picks and 50+ tension wrenches in the case. I realise picks don't make the picker in many cases with the exception of maybe cases like this as LPL addresses, but its nice to have variety.

    I think they heard you were doing a review and threw in the extra bypass waffer to get more points😉😂😂

    Interesting lock. I though these Americans all have serrated spools. Nice little fight :-)

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will be another American with the normal serrated core and pins. It will score better. This is a Master Lock core, so it has ML pins which are not quite as nice.

    Nice pick,
    I am thinking that this lock was rekeyed and with master lock keypins. There should be all serrated keypins.

      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. As for the pinning, this is a Master Lock core (available as an option on AL products), so it has ML pins which are not quite as nice. I'll be doing another AL1100 with normal pinning/keyway.

  • @feralwoodcraft
    @feralwoodcraft 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another good one Sir. What's the point of the certified Master Lock keyways if they don't really make things more difficult. Aside from the thinner pick anyway. Thanks!!

    • @lockpickinglawyer

      Thanks. It's all about key control. The blanks are not available, so your employee's can't go to the hardware store and copy it.

    I picked up my first American 1100 and it has a different core than this one. Did they switch to a different core in the past half-decade since this was posted? Where this lock is stamped "K" on the end by the keyway, mine is stamped "A".

  • @Kurence555
    @Kurence555 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Mr. Lawyer, I have met with a lock that had strange "obstacles" between the pins. They could only be moved by pushing the first one, then the second, third etc (as a key would normally push them). If I started in the back it didnt work. Without doing this, it was still possible to pick it, but accessing the pins was really difficult, have you ever encountered something like this?
    Here is an illustration: ctrlv.cz/shots/2016/11/25/yYOS.png
    Black lines are these "obstacles"
    Thanks

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The "obstacles" you feel is just the warding. Check out my video #82 and look carefully at the cutaway I use... it should make more sense after seeing it.

    Disappointed that it did not use the standard american serrated key pins. Are you going to feature a "standard" american with an APTC12 or APTC14 core?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there will be another American with the normal core and pins (as noted in the series debut video). It will score better. This is a Master Lock core, so it has ML pins which are not quite as nice. :-)

    What exactly are those "passive pins for key control" and what's their purpose?

    • @pickbeard2690
      @pickbeard2690 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alien Kitten they make the key harder to duplicate.
      If you managed to get a key to fit the keyway and copied the key bitting without those "dimples"being present on the new key then the "passive" pins would be activated(pushed out)and it would bind up the core making it still 🔒

      No bonus points for key control? That's a unique security feature to this series.

    Hi. I just bought a lot of 6 American 1107 w long shackles but they have 6 pin masterlock retaining keys. What is the deal with that? Thank you if u answer.

  • @SawdustAndCalluses

    are the passive pins just to keep other keys from working then?

  • @zlocksca
    @zlocksca 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you impressioned a lock with security key pins if so is it easier or harder to see the marks than standard pins

  • @JC-11111
    @JC-11111 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's like my 'Abus' keyway 72/40. I thought it was paracentric but looking in with a light, you can see straight down the line of pins. Pretty thin but you can still see them.
    I still haven't opened it with my cheap pick kit. The hooks aren't deep enough to get the last pins without oversetting the first 3 or 4

      @rugersoldier 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Oleg-oe1rc Im still kinda new to the hobby of picking though, this guy has a vid of him picking 10 of these in 10 mins

    • @Oleg-oe1rc
      @Oleg-oe1rc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rugersoldier Yeah, mainly just looking for about 30 seconds of protection, as long at it isn't like most Master Locks where you can pop it open in a split second with a few rakes, I'm happy. Don't expect many well experienced pickers to go at mine, so that fact that it even took an experienced picker a solid minute goes above and beyond my expectations.
