This was definitely helpful. Been stuck on this lock for a while now. Watching people like you eat them for breakfast is a combination of motivating and humiliating. Thank you
@@kylee6163 💪🏻
I agree. I was stuck, too. Showing which pick and size to use totally helped me. Also seeing that the pick should be inserted at the lowest part of the keyway.
Progressive pinned mine and I can open it with 2, 3, 4 pins, but 5 pins has been impossible so looking forward to this. Also video idea, show off all of your 3D printed locksport related items.
Sometimes you need quite a deep hook. I've found the medium pointy SSDeV very effective, even in 0.025" and is my go-to pick for A1100s. If that doesn't work I'll go for a thinner one.
How you getting on with 5 pins @mikeg8447 ?
just picked a box of 24 for $65 on ebay less then 3bucks ea.. you the man!! greetings from Ohio
Definitely fun locks to pick, especially the green 1100's 😅
Every time you post a how to video I find something I didn’t even realize I needed to see to improve on or to make picking easier
put this on in the background while practicing on my first 1100. good times. thanks!
I ordered my yellow 1100 on Amazon then opened up youtube to this live video😄
Weirdly i picked my 1st 1100 today after a month of trying , then you do this video .. excellent
Wow!!! Nice choice, I've been working on a 1100, for the first time, and it's giving me hell. Thanks 👍👍👍
Thanks, I found it. I asked about it. On one of your other videos, and you directed me to this video.
Thanks for the show, was really educating 👍
I do love all the Americans and their clones, they can teach a lot to everybody. IT was nice to see, that you have your difficulties too, and I think you gave very good advices on poping them open!
Again: thanks for the show, I really enjoyed IT🤜🤛👏
Now I have to say abracadabra 😂 and to answer your question, I also like watching people pick locks
Love the video, watched the whole way thru, one because I love watching and two because I get allot out of it, I got my first 1100 open the other day, and since have not gotten it again so many just keep trying, funny I also set them down after about 3 minutes and then blow thru my easy locks then back at it, then repeat 3-4 times and decide today isn’t the day.
Abracadabra
I was able to pick our armory 1100 locks on my last day at work - but never before - it was a neat send off
A1100s have quite a strong core spring which means sometimes you can have them open without knowing. Picking anticlockwise negates this as there is no spring tension and makes it easier to know when it's open.
Great video and includes loads of good tips. I vary tension a lot going from strong to light etc. I also overset A1100s on purpose somethimes and catch the pins as they drop.
Successful opened my first one while watching this. Been trying for 3 days
Excellent video!! Serrated pins were definitely the hardest for me to learn when I started
It was very encouraging seeing that even as an experienced locksport picker you also had one or two that caused you "a littl trouble". By that I mean you had to change your strategy. For someone new to the hobby this taught me a lot! So much great information. Thank you.
abracadabra Thanks for the video Sandman. As to why staying to the end, I find it enjoyable to pick while listening to someone else talk about picking and how they work through any difficulties they encounter. Shared pain :)
As a left handed picker I love how you just showed me that i can do counter tension and use the spin tool to unlock. Thank you so much for this!!!
ABRACADABRA!! I watch you pick while I pick. It motivates me when I hear your pins set.
I enjoy watching people pick locks. So i I watched to the end.
Oh ya Abricadabrah
perfect timing for me too. Out of 5 1100s I was able to get here in Europe, I can only open one. I consider it luck or "a fluke", and I really really want to master the other 4.
Which colors do you have? 🤔
@@wolfganggrojcig2528 one golden/yellow and 4 all red.
I think you gave me the information I've been missing. I've probably been struggling with this due to over setting. Thanks
Added bonus, your difficulty at the end raises the possibility that my lock is particularly difficult.
I love the 1100’s
Didn’t take much in when I watched this last. But I just got 24 of these in last night. Thought I was going to have to progressively pin it just to get the hang of the feeling of it as I wasn’t getting too far with them. Decided to come back to this video and give them a try while watching. I was able to put your tips to use in real time and started getting a feel for what was going on in there and opened 8 during this video. Thanks man. Serrations have always been my kryptonite. I can easily stack up the 410s but 1100s have always given me trouble 🤘
That’s awesome!!
I will never stop watching u
Thanks Man for the kick in the ass, These things are busting me right in the plumbs. I've struggled with them pretty hard and being a lefty has definitely been challenging.
Oh my goodness look at what a beautiful color green that lock has set in my Amazon shopping cart safe for later, for a long time now, it's coming home to Daddy now LOL I hope the blue is that same metallic type color cuz I'm coming for that one too LOL I got a black one which is very nice but it's like regular paint it would be cool if they could have give it that metallic Haze but still very lovely lock
Abracadabra. Great content sir! Just started my picking journey about a month ago and been enjoying your channel. You have taught me much! Thanks.
Sandman!!! Awesome tutorial!!! I just picked my first one today!!! I'm not sure how I pulled it off,but did it in about 30 minutes!😊 Used a higher hook in 20 thou, from Southern Specialties!!! The bitting on the key is not very complicated. Gonna try it again in a few!! Thanks for the great content!!🔒🔒🔒
Rock on!
Thanks for the tips, I was woking on a 6 pin American and was struggling. Picking counter clockwise did the trick. Great video as always.
FYI They always come with a low set pin to overcome a comb attack, hence the choice of a medium or deep hook.
Love these teaching vids !!
Lock picking Lawyer is informative, McNally is entertaining. You, my dude, are relatable lol. Ur references and analogies had me chuckling while listening at work lol. Subbed.
Been working on 1100 lately and I've preferred short hook since beginning a month or so ago, but now I'll try med or deep since I've only gotten two opens on one of the two 1100s I have and one open on the other. Thnx for tips.
This is the video I was looking for!
I have 3 things to say about this video...
1. Nickelodeon Slime
2. Buler
3. Abbra Kadabbra
I smile every time you make you make an 80'/ 90's reference.😂
abracadabra, I am working on picking my first 1100. Your comments and insights are very helpful. Thanks!
I like watching people pick locks but above all I’m learning a lot
Great video, very helpful. Got one cracked to the not a fluke level... Now I guess I'll have to invest in 11 more ha
You're killing me here. Been a two week struggle, I needed this last week sooooo much 🤣🤣🤣
Still need it!! The work ain't done.
Better late than never right good sir
@@nottodead good point!
Thanks, Sandman! I just picked my first one tonight after watching this.
Rock on!
thank you for describing the sounds i learned alot
I'm trying to hunt these down in all possible colors. I just got the black one ordered. I already have the blue, orange/yellow, 2xred and green one. Right now, i'm looking for the brown colored one, which I find the rarest.
Dude I love it love you love your content keep'em coming!!
Look at that line up!!!
For everyone who is struggling with their one and only A1100.... some can be quite tricky to open (as Sandman showed) so don't give up and get a few or progressive pin them. I have about 10 or so and some are a real PITA to pick! 😀
I've had an A-hole of a time with mine for months.... Just tried your reverse pick with thumb tension method and popped it 3 times in a row like running a damn train on it. FML.... now I have to scope out plug spinner costs. :D
Do you have a cutaway 1100? It would be great to watch what is going on inside as you pick it in your normal fashion.
Abra abracadabra
I wanna reach out and grab ya

Abracadabra
Name that tune without resorting to a search engine 😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣
Very helpful , I about 6 or 7 colors , I progressive pinned mine , I'm up to 3 pins , it's fun & sometimes frustrating , good tutorial , thanks , moe
Sandman Rocks😎
great video
Abracadabra. Now I have to work on mine. I have no problem with 410s, but I don’t have the feel for these 1100s yet.
Semper Fi
Abacadabra!! Would you recommend trying a counter-clockwise open on these, even if u don't have one of those core spinner thingys you have? Thank you!
If you don’t have a plug spinner, it will not open. You can’t open these going left. You can pick them, but you can’t open them.
Abradadabra! Thanks for the tips!
Abracadabra.... these 1100 are driving me nuts.... hoping for some tip to start opening them constantly
Abracadabra! Thanks for the tips
Is it possible after several picking it begin to block when you try to turn the barrel, even with the key? That happened with my two 1100. Another question: is it possible to protect the end of the barrel against bypass attack?
Abracadabra 😀
Excellent video. Am a noob and have gone through a master D3, m5, brinks 164. Am currently stuck on a 570 which gives me problems due to my right hand and TOK tensioning. is the 1100 easier or harder than the 570?
harder. 570 doesnt have security pins, this has 5. youll get there.
What is the tok tension tool you are using? I can not for the life of me pick with a tok tension tool and really need some help. Do you have any tips and advice? I tried to make my own tok wrenches from old wiper blades, but they don't stay in. I later bought a set of Sparrows comb/tok 2-in-1 wrenches hoping it would make a difference, but they immediately fall out as well at the slightest core rotation, or from knocking it out with my pick. I've been practicing with some DG gov locks and they seem to require a light pressure on the bok wrench, and this makes it even harder for me to keep a tok from falling out.
It’s just a standard double ended tok tool that comes with any quality pick set.
If it helps anyone, a #8 cut is not always true zero lift pin. You still have to set it sometimes. Abracapocus!(Bugs Bunny anyone?)
Can you tell me a little bit about your camera set up? Where is the camera in relation to your body so that we just see your hands and not your face but have a good view of what you were picking? It seems like you would have to be wearing a helmet cam but I’m certain that’s not right lol.
when i pick locks, it is on some posable arm that is attached to my bench top, its literally in front of my head, but just high enough i can see below it to see my hands typically. like, forehead height. and it is so close my head will bump it sometimes. when i do reviews of products, i use a smaller cell phone holder that sits in front of me and i can barely see what im doing lol. but you get used to it. i use my cell phone iphone 15proMax for everything and just upload it to a drive online then download it, then upload it to a computer.
Nice. Abracadabra! ;)
Have to say I have to laugh every time a US picker says the American 1100 is a $9.00 lock
I think the 1100 i got after a lot of hunting cost about 1 UKP less than a brand new (from retailer) Ruko padlock with a flexcore.
Paclok and Commando are also like hens teeth over here, though i guess some of our normal stuff would be quite exotic to you guys.
I guess what we really need is a proper transatlantic lock pipeline ;)
Abracadabra!
Abracadabra 🎉
PS I 'm not a master picker even in the slightest, But I do know why the turner tool keeps popping out. There's no lateral support... You finger being out and away from the point of contact is causing it to spin. That's why flat bars work better it gives you more control in the same axis as the key way.
I understand. It keeps falling out because it’s just not the right size. I didn’t have an in between size of .8 and 1.0 mm. You said I need a flat bar, but this is a flat bar. It just doesn’t have any teeth. Are you referring to a BOK tensioner?
@@sandman_locksport I shoulda said a TOK Flat Bar from Covert. The tool sitting sideways doesn't provide enough frictional surface to hold the bar in place against the force being applied. It needs barbs or knurling on the sides that make contact with the keyway. I should make a video on this.... Hummmm. I have found that Ergo turners have the same problem when the bend is too far away from the fulcrum.
@@UncleSnaf I respectfully disagree. Whether there is teeth or not, the bar will still jump out when there’s fast movement in the core and I’m only holding the tensioner with one finger. I have, however, noticed the opposite of what you have, which is ergonomic turning tools will hold better because the absorb the feedback, less chances of them jumping around.
Hey, not being a jerk, but would be nice on a re-keyable lock to see you Gutt it live
Google is your friend
Abracadabra
Just so you know... i watched this entire video with a green 1100 in front of me, that i havent been able to pick yet... didnt touch it once until after the video.
@@royboivin next time pick it!
@@sandman_locksport I JUST picked it... your video 💯 helped!!!
My issue was looking at the key before trying to pick for the last 3 weeks I was trying to pick to what i believed the key looked like. I made bad assumptions on two of the pin heights being a 0 cut.
@@royboivin yes! 🙌
@@royboivin for what it’s worth. I’ve been picking American locks for 15 years and I didn’t know they had zero lifts until a couple months ago.
Aberakadabera
abrakadabra
Yikes abracadabra
Love you channel
There is only 5 pins in an American Lock
at 1:16 i state that. there are 6 pin holes however, but only 5 of those are filled.
You're like a big deal....
abracadabra it really helps to hear the clicks on the video. thanks! 😊
Glad it helped!
Your Facebook group link isn't working. It says, "This content isn't available right now."
I no longer host the group. Old link
Abra Cadabra. You can't do that on television...lol
I think it would be awesome if you made it so every time anyone says," I don't know," ,they get slimed. It's easy because you are just a pair of hands to us.
You could have guests on with you. Bosnian Bill, Lockwood, LPL, beginner pickers, whoever. OK maybe I just wake n baked and I should get coffee now.
