    VERY IMPORTANT MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION- DESTROY ENGINE
    make sure camshaft dowel pins do not get pushed in when installing camshafts
    my timing chain sprockets went in too easy, turns out dowel pins were pushed in and gouges the head and cracked the camshafts when i went to turn the crankshaft pulley to check timing.
    if you feel any resistance on crankshaft turning engine do not put any pressure.
    check camshaft dowel pins make sure they are not pushed in towards the smooth surface, engine turned 90 degrees then stopped, i thought the chain might be snagged, added more pressure now i need new cams and head might fall apart after few miles if i dont get a new one

      i havnt done it yet but i assume this is why guys put vice grips on the camshaft i didnt understand why they were doing it, wasnt explained well in video's ive watched

      @@HectorTTalks I just did my head gasket. Thank you. A few things I learnt in addition to this video- JMO from a novice.
      Turn your wheels hard right before starting.
      Top dead center doesn’t matter - as the gears are marked relative to each other, and gears to the timing chain, (I also marked lower pully to engine) any position is restored and a point non TDC reduces risk of valves hitting the piston with a fool in charge :). Some wall height also allows solvent to pool and clean deposits from the top of the piston.
      Check your valve clearance prior to starting. A couple of egg cartons held caps in a safe/organized manner for reinstall to optimal position
      Remove the power steering fluid container, radiator reservoir and the radiator/fan assembly. It’s far easier.
      There is a hidden bolt connecting the timing chain housing to the valve block, it’s hidden within a recess in the lower middle.
      Have some help available whilst you remove serpentine belt tension, or a 6mm bolt (so I’m told) to lock the serpentine belt tensioner into position.
      Hold the timing chain up at 3 points to the timing chain housing with cable ties. One in the middle, and then another as each cam gears comes off. This ensures the chain cannot slip where you cannot see it on the lower gear.
      Use a pin on the timing chain tensioner. I removed it successfully, but lost the spring and cap into the lower section when trying to install. Fished out with a magnet attached to the end of a hex wrench placed within a rubber glove, save the delay, find a pin. (very small screwdriver, hex wrench etc).
      Great vid. THANK YOU.

      Oh then yes you may need to drain the oil to then remove the oil pan to get it out. You might be able to turn the crank pulley with a wrench to move the chain and knock it down out of there.

After a few days driving it my plugs foul out and it won’t start. My antifreeze keeps disappearing but there’s no water in my oil, no oil in my water and it doesn’t smoke like when an engine is trying to burn water/ antifreeze from a blown head gasket. @@randallfields2819 thats kinda weird that its idling fine even though you were getting misfires, which could be from numerous things like a timing chain, sensor issue or even MAP issue. I would check those to make sure everything is in order. As for the leak, try putting in that UV leak detector fluid because it may be leaking from somewhere other than the head gasket and you'll be able to find it with the fluid. Also, when you replaced the spark plugs and coils, did they have oil on them?

    • @randallfields2819

    Got some Bars Head Seal and I put it in yesterday and its already stopped the overheating and will continue to seal anything from radiator leaks to intake gasket leaks. It covers a ton of stuff and is a permanent fix according to what the label says. Its the more expensive formula that has carbon fiber in it to really give a strong seal. Cost 50$ and takes a solid day to do it properly without rushing the process. I'm pretty stoked on not having to slave away under the hood or cash out big on repairs. Hopefully the next year or more will be solid. You can keep it running in the coolant too and it will continue to do its job. Hope this helps you or someone else.

      Hey hey, welcome back again lol. After the head gasket replacement it's been running pretty good. I used it for Lyft and grocery deliveries and right now my friend borrowed it to go up to Jacksonville FL which is a 2-3 hour drive which I'm hoping he brings it back in one piece. The only issue I had was the thread on the cylinder head for the valve cover. It stripped on a few bolts so I used RTV but once my friend comes back down then I'll have that re-threaded

    Hector great video man! I’m looking at this and I’m like how the hell am I going to do this. My wife’s Nissan Altima 2005 is blowing Exhaust out of the front of the engine. I’m guessing here it’s a gasket. I was out in it last night and I think that’s when it took a crap! It’s been burning oil a lot. The Exhaust is getting in the car while I was driving last night. When I push down on the Excelerator pedal you can hear the hissing from the engine. Does this sound or seem like a head gasket? I’m really not sure. If you don’t know it’s fine. How long have you owned the 2005 altima? I have the same year altima and it has 220,000km on the original timing chain and head gasket. Ive replaced the crank and camshaft sensors a year ago. The car is idling rough at red lights as well sometimes troube starting. I'm wondering if my chain is stretched and throwing off the sensors? Any thoughts and would a new chain help with starting it?

    • @HectorTTalks
      @HectorTTalks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a good question because mine has started doing the same thing a little while ago. Now i know the tube seals im my valve cover are leaking oil because thats a very common problem with the 4 cylinder, especially with aftermarket covers, so i would check that. Now if you're getting random misfires as well as a rough idle i would check the sensors or replace them since they're kinda cheap and if it then continues check the chain. I know i need to replace my timing chain because it's still the original one and i had it aligned perfectly when i did the head gasket replacement so for mine to be off with the idle i know besides the leak, my chain is no good. Also check your catalytic converter and O2 sensor. If its realy clogged it could idle rough because the O2 sensor isn't sending the proper information.

Then it dropped it 10.3 when cranking over. I taked to a Nissan mechanic and he said that it still could be the starter as they don't make good parts these day. Both were still under 3 year warranty so i replaced both tonight. Car started great. So in total I have a 1 year old camshaft sensor and a new crank shaft sensor as well new battery and starter. As for the rough idling i wonder if changing the O2 sensor as well catalytic manifold would really help? Do you think? • @shark70007000

    I think it's that thin slot between the cylinders, that causes it to leak. The one I'm working on doesn't get coolant in the oil. With the cooling system void of pressure, just cranking it without starting, would cause pressure in the cooling system.

    good video, i had some questions about why you have it machined. and if you're just replacing the gasket, how could you have determined if the head had an issue itself. would you see physical cracks? anything you can tell me about the process of machining the head would be appreciated. also from a video standpoint, i would say maybe a quick blurb about all the tools you used or will use would be useful. overall show some confidence bud you're killing it

    • @HectorTTalks
      @HectorTTalks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the advice! Now the reason I had it machined was because they did check for cracks since some cracks can be too small to see by eye and I wanted to make sure it had a clean, smooth surface to mate the gasket onto by having it machined, which cuts away a very tiny layer from the bottom of it. Now, they could have cleaned the whole head and checked the valves and springs at the shop too but that would have took them longer and cost more which I didn't have the money nor time for them to do that when I had it done. As for the tools, I try to mention them in the video, but I'm also gonna go back and list all the tools and equipment used in the description!

    The one I'm working on had no real sign that it was the head gasket, other than it didn't want to go over 3.5K RPM's. Sometimes it would go higher, sometimes only 3K. No water in the oil. The exhaust didn't smell like coolant. After driving it into the driveway, it actually ran smooth, but I pull the plugs out and the heads are all wet still. Today, before I started working on it, it did get up to 4.5K RPM's. The plugs looked dry, unlike the other day troubleshooting, they were wet after driving it into the driveway.

    • @HectorTTalks
      @HectorTTalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So oil on the spark plugs and or coils could actually be from the tube rings which are built into the valve cover, which you would have to replace. Now for the RPM issue, that's usually a sensor problem. Scan to see if it's giving any codes and check out the mas air flow sensor. Sometimes if it's faulty or having issues, it'll restrict power

    • @HectorTTalks
      @HectorTTalks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@linshebola8080 I haven't heard of needing to re-thread the engine block for the cylinder head bolts, but yeah you can take a microfiber cloth and wipe clean the cylinders. You would just rotate the crank pulley to move the pistons. As for the TDC position, I did do that in the video and advised to also do that because it makes things easier with this engine. Doesn't mean that it needs to have been done, because with this specific engine you'll be aligning the timing gears with the special links on the timing chain when re-assembling the engine. But putting it into TDC makes it easier to do that . Other engines you have to put them into TDC or else you'll damage them when trying to start it.

      That probably was the cause because i bought the car and it was leaking oil everywhere and already had the blown gasket. The person i bought it from let it go for $300 and actually couldn't remember the last time they had an oil change. Now luckily, the cylinder head wasn't warped, they checked it at the shop, which is why i had it machined, just to make sure it had a smooth mating surface.
