Most of the content we consume of Buzz and Kenty is on 360, and the quicker you realise they’re playing characters the quicker you’ll realise they’re not the worst blokes
Well said and if I may add to that, it is his job and a career spanning 6 decades. I'd rather Phil write columns as many of the younger reporters don't 'get it'.
@@gongandfriends it’s comments on the storm defending being cheats were. Joke amongst other things, if makes you think he’s doing it on purpose to stir buzz up for ratings and isn’t serious .
As a pom. and to cap it all .. live in the south(union Territory) . i found this really interesting stuff. i don't know much about Aussie RL history.. but i do love my Rugby League..interesting that Buzz talked about the west coast expansion.. never understood why it never took off.. but doing a complete 180.. it the same over here in the midlands and south /south west League is a semi pro game at most.. wales are trying. london Broncos formerly Fulham have had their moments but are now pretty poor.. such a shame that league can't expand in these areas..
Perth and Adelaide not working is a bit overblown and perhaps some revisionist history from the SYD clubs. Off the pitch, they didn't do too bad but became a victim of the conclusion of the Super League war and self-interest from a protectionist SYD-orientated sport. The same with UK RL and the governing bodies being controlled like a mafia/old boys club of all the chairmen who run clubs in dead-end mill towns that would not succeed in a truly nationwide, big city comp. The problem with our game is we never give anything the chance to grow like other sports do. We'll do something but if it doesn't immediately turn a profit from day 1 they cut it off too quick. We never make investments to grow the game. Never give things time. Whether it be the neglect of the international game (just compare RL to RU; in RU teams got battered to the same extent in the group stages at their first few World Cups in 95, 99 and 03 but 20 years later it no longer does because they stuck at it), or the way expansions like Toronto, Celtic Crusaders, Perth, and Adelaide went in the past. Even London for all its history has never been able to maintain a permanent home and reap the rewards that stability has in your ability to grow a fanbase. Broncos have been NW, SW, SE, NE - they are the most nomadic club in the game. They have also been the victim of promotion/relegation too. If Fulham had been able to maintain their place in the first grade instead of the yo-yoing that held the club back and ultimately killed their crowds, who knows where the Broncos would be today
Perth is halfway to South Africa from the east coast the distance from family and the weekly travel of 35 odd players and officials is the unfortunate reason it's not in the NRL.
@@Jamie-ye7fu Yes indeed .. Fulham were a great club.. but they had to keep moving grounds.. disrupting the fanbase.. then they became London Crusaders.. then London Broncos. then Harlequins RL . Then Back to Broncos.. This is why they never get the crowds and the exposure.. Damn Shame..
I've gotta say as a long term podcast listener, especially of league content. I've got an unofficial all time great episode list. Ones like Kemps Locker Room episodes with both of Josh Hoffmans, both of Corey Normans, Munsters was awesome. Christian Welch and James Magnussens Hello Sport ep was so good. But in terms of % of amazing episodes. The Bye Round podcast is #1. The Burgess double was awesome. Bennetts, Ennis, PKs and this Buzz one was awesome. Todd Greenbergs ep is arguably the best one. The Bye Round has had more instant classics than not. So good.
Keep up the fight for the afternoon gf Buzz. Used to be the best day of the year - my son will never get to watch it as a boy with an 8pm kickoff. A real shame.
How do you defend in League if you lower the tackle? It works in Union because most of the tackles are chops anyway, but you can't realistically expect in league to lower the height and still manage to control the ruck when the bloke has come at you from 10-15 metres, you'd have to resort to a trip/chop where the attacker always finds his front and then we have a situation where no one is ever getting back in the defensive line in time.
I have always liked Buzz Rothfield . Im a RL and sport tragic as well (GO THE WARRIORS) . the game and sport in general is about the people and community . I like Buzz also sit in the same season ticket seat as well . theres just something about the camaraderie and passion we all have for the game when you are in a stand with a stranger who also shares the same passion. Its funny over time how that stranger then becomes a friend .

Buzz if you don't like UFC that's fine, you said so yourself but your argument that boxing is more skillful and the UFC is thuggery is the most outrageous comment on this podcast. A mixed martial artist in the ufc has a skillset that is unrivalled, they are the most skilled, toughest and fittest athletes in the world and make rugby league players look like boy scouts.
Love ya James - pity about the bloke you’ve decided to get on. His latest comments on the Ashes show his out of touch status with Cricket and don’t forget. This is the same bloke whom stated QLD’s worst origin team ever ( only for that team to win the series ). He also don’t forget questioned Cooper Cronks integrity simply because he couldn’t walk a couple of metres inside the same Fox Sports building to ask him for an opinion. He is very quick to put pen to paper and languish anyone, but criticise him…….well just ask poor old Andrew Fifita. Sorry Phil but your just too out of date for the new game. Those theories might have worked well back in the 70’s but now………😢.
What this interview shows is that it's very naive to assume it's the journos who are the sneaky and duplicitous ones. The players, the coaches, the owners etc are just as bad and sometimes worse as they play journos to set an agenda. The Stirlo story is interesting and Stirlo comes across as amazingly petty. Buzz did the right thing there, and Stirlo holding a grudge for 40+ years is pathetic.
This was a brilliant listen and really refreshing. See a side of Buzz we’ve never seen before. Great work Jimmy.
