    17:55 not sure if this is only on the new cast iron spindles but mine have a pressure release valve so I grease till the valve pops out and oozes excess grease out the top of the spindle. It’s a great feature since you can’t blow out the seals with grease.
    The valves are sometimes put in bad spots on the backside of the spindle under the pulley so you have to take your time cleaning. It can get grease under the pulley so make sure you wipe under it or it will sling the grease everywhere the first time you start the deck.

    13:30 I’ve used evaporust and it’s great for rusty things. It does change the color of the metal to black wherever the rust is or exposed metal.

    Perfect timing! I had planned to do a Spindle check/replace this winter anyways on my z930m. I had heard from another channel that you can google the numbers on the bearings and reorder from Napa or whoever sells them. Much cheaper option. 👍Thanks again!

    If you pause at 7:32 you can see that bearing marking “6208” that’s a standardized number for identifying that bearing. You can use that number to get the same bearing from any manufacture.

    Around 21 they changed to cast iron spindles that’s when my z920m was built and has cast iron ones.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. For example if you have a z930m with a PIN # over 90,000 it requires the cast iron housing spindle AUC12478. The process is exactly the same. The bearings and seal part #s different. But done the exact same way. Models before -90,000 will have the TCA24880 spindle.

    • @Mechanical_Mind

      Yes exact same process just different set of bearings and seals needed. Other than that they are pretty much identical

    I've got a z740R, purchased new in 2021. Question: How much grease do I put in each of the spindles? Typically I'd expect grease to be oozing out somewhere when 'full' but after 70 pumps of the grease gun i don't see anything oozing out anywhere yet. Ideas? Note the spindles look similar to what's in the video.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jim, I use a hand lever pump and usually stop when feel some resistance after pumping grease into them. Which is usually 8-14 pumps or so. You want to try to avoid pushing grease out of the seals.

    But it’s what makes a good mechanic
    Yes I’m retired diesel mechanic of 58 years and still working on small engines
    Grease is what all the new equipment is needing badly and zert installed

    How many hours are we getting on a set of bearings before needing repair?

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I see the average is around 500 hours on a set of spindles assuming they are being greased properly

    How many hours do you see the spindles lasting before needing a rebuild?

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That really depends on how often the owners have greased the spindles. Ive seen them go bad as years as 150 hrs amd seen them last as long as 1000 hours.

    • @philliphall5198
      @philliphall5198 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Phillip, go to deere.com then click 'parts & service' then 'parts' then 'commercial mowing'. Then enter your mowers PIN # ( product Identification Number). Confirm your mower has the TCA24880 spindles. The kit in this video is for the TCA24880 spindles.

    I would be weary of buying cheap bearings, I’d go with name brand bearings.
    I’ve had issues with cheap wheel bearings on cars and cheap garden cart tires.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I fully agree. I think the stock factory issue bearings are cheap chinese bearings 😒

    • @FishFind3000

      @@Mechanical_Mind yea, they know it should last long enough for warranty. After that they don’t care since your gonna probably come crawling back to them for parts so they get you twice.

    • @Mechanical_Mind
      @Mechanical_Mind  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you get a few years out of some $21 bearings and seals heck why not. Its really easy to change them out. Regardless they need to be greased regularly.

    • @FishFind3000
      @FishFind3000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Mechanical_Mind absolutely, it’s just a pain if you get a bad batch of bearings and have to do hours of work and out hundreds. This happened to us when we put on new MOOG iwe wheel hubs on our f150. It took 2 sets of them before we got a decent one and after the last one failed again I bought the ford one and called it a day. I’ve been bitten to many times on cheap or aftermarket parts. I had another fiasco with thermostats being defective right out the gate. The thing was both the wheel hubs and the water pumps were both name brand products…

      The machine is about 7 years old so I’m sure it’s out of warranty. The problem starts after about 35 minutes of mowing.

    If you buy from HD Switch be forewarned. They don’t respond if there is a problem with your order. They shipped me the wrong bearings and seals for my 60D deck and I can’t reach them to return. My bad, I just have to eat the purchase price. Now I have a bearing and seal set that I can’t use.

    Years ago wheel bearing on cars were a regular maintain ence item. Disassemble, clean and grease bearing then reassemble.
    Deck bearings should have been the same.no pets needed.
    Today's throw away society is a total waste.
    To shows of no care for anything, even the planet.
