oh man, it's a really cute game... but those controls are so atrocious. seems like zero thought went into the switch control shemes... so sad actually, cause the game itself is so lovely, but i am having such a hard time enjoying it when you have to press 17 buttons for the simplest actions.
Looks guys, the game seems promising but they have poor controls and it can be really frustrating to achieve something, I couldn’t play for even half hour, really disappointed.
It honestly took me about 2-3ish hours before the controls started coming to me more quickly. It was definitely frustrating because it made the beginning of the game very hard to enjoy & it felt like I wasn't progressing as fast as I could be. Thankfully, it eventually occurred to me that there's actually no time limit in which to get things done so I can really just go at my own pace. I'm glad I kept going/ practicing because the controls (while still stupid & annoying at times) come to me without even thinking now, and the game is seriously so much freakin' fun! I know the controls are off-putting, but I hope this may encourage you (or anyone else reading this) to keep at it! :)

Yup, this game looks like a lot of fun. I loved stardew but the farming sim type game is getting to be a bit saturated. Running a bed and breakfast seems like a breath of fresh air!

@@jynx1891 it's not as in-depth as stardew valley, but if you like minecraft too then I'd check out Staxel. It's basically the sdv/harvest moon/farming mod I always wanted in minecraft, and the building and town design/customization I always wanted in farming games. It's also super cool because it's not just your farm that you have control over - you can renovate (build like in minecraft) every building in town, or just the paths and parks outside. which I really liked to use as motivations/goals and never got bored because of that. If you don't like building at all though, then the game wouldn't be for you because even though the farming is pretty good (between harvest moon/story of seasons and stardew valley level quality I'd say), but it probably won't keep you engaged for long if you're not interested in the idea of designing the town/surrounding area. To be clear, the game does start with a fully built town (but run down farm of course), and the buildings aren't like ugly, so you can certainly play the game without worrying about that, but it's fun to dabble in changing interiors or expand the museum so you feel motivated to catch all the bugs and stuff and put them in there. After playing the latest animal crossing, the museum in sdv felt a little lacking (it makes sense for the town but is a bit lame just being on pedastals and bookshelves. And you used to not be able to move anything once donated, but thankfully concerned ape changed that). So it's fun to play a farming game and change the museum to be more like AC - like building little habitats for the bugs instead of just having them in a cage or something.
I don't get it... The performance is awful, the game crash at least 2 times per hour, autosave not working... Having to tediously redo resource runs and re-craft stuff is seriously killing this game. Yeah... the game is cute.... but the bad quality is killing this game
I was SO excited for this game and I SO wanted to love it but then menus and controls are SO convoluted and confusing that I absolutely hate it. I tried for 3 hours to get the hang of it and almost drifted my switch into the wall. I feel like I wasted money and should have gotten it on PC instead. It seems more suited for keyboard and mouse
This looks like something I’d love to play! I just bought Ooblets though, and I also still haven’t finished Graveyard Keeper or Two Point Hospital, so it should probably go on my wishlist for now. Hopefully by the time I’m ready to play it they will have increased the text size, because that looked pretty small even on my iPad screen. But your enthusiasm for this game really showed and I’m looking forward to trying it out!

This is the kind of game that desperately needs a demo. Part of me is holding off because I have so many games and part of me is holding off because I know how long I spent playing Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. I can easily imagine getting hooked on this game. The main concern I have is how frantic or overwhelming the micro management gets. It's cool they have NPCs to help with the hotels; would be even better if they gave you options to improve the performance of those NPCs in some way or with some form of in-game currency so they would perform to your standards or go above and beyond just filling the rooms.

I love this game too, I've been playing it on switch but I agree that there's a bit too many buttons/menus, I find it a bit confusing when decorating and having to go into my inventory each time and accidentally backing out or pressing Y a lot, I think they could maybe re-work the menus and overall feel of the game, even having to press "take all" everytime you want to pick something up is a bit tedious, otherwise, super fun!
Dont know if it was released for pc earlier this year, but i remember reading a kotaku review that trashed the game - which was a shame imo. I'm glad Mark loved it, though. I'm ready to take his word on it and get myself a copy

4:20 it actually made me stop playing after 5hrs. I couldn't let my mind wander off into the woods, always had to actively think about which combination of buttons to press for any action... I soooo wanted to enjoy this game !

Was waiting for this review! It’s nice to hear there’s a staff member who can take some load off you and that you can let them manage only one or two or however many rooms you decide. I’m wondering if you can control the rate of customers booking a room to begin with though? Like in graveyard keeper I could control when I wanted more corpses by putting a carrot out for the donkey or not, which really helped me take it at my own pace. Just worried that customers will come flooding in and I’d get too stressed. Otherwise the visuals and gameplay look great! Thanks for the review!
I can't express how happy I am hearing that the game is Switch up approve ! It's been on my wishlist on steam for ages, I can't wait to play it !! On reddit, the devs said that they were aware of the controls problem and the text size (it was a bug apparently) so hopefully there will be a patch soon. I like that we run a bed and breakfast, it's something we havent seen too much. I played Little Dragon café a while ago, which had a similar premise but this one seems a lot better ! Between this, Potion permit and Harvestella in November, my poor backlog is going to cry lol.

The controls are absolute ass. More like a menu simulator when you have to navigate the UI 20% of the time. I highly recommend using keyboard and mouse for this game.
I've tried some of these work-your-ass-off-for-free games and I don't get the appeal. This one looks cute but I prefer to earn real money in the real world working much less hard than in these games TBH.
Could please you do a tutorial on the UI and controls for the switch…I’m really having a hard time as I’m sure many others are. It’s keeping me from playing….like it took me a long time to figure out how to get into and read the tutorials as you did mention. Really wonky and convoluted.

Out of curiosity, to your knowledge do devs watch your videos and make some of the recommended suggestions you make in your reviews? You had some good "clean up" ideas, and quality of life improvements for the player. Just curious, how seriously devs take that feedback.
I've been playing for about a week now. Absolutely love the game however, it started quitting in the middle of the game saying there was some kind of error. I end up losing maybe the last 10 minutes of progress unless I had fast traveled recently.
I can't be certain, but I get the feeling that Mark really loves this game. So much in fact that I am even interested in it, and management titles such as this dont usually interest me. Well played sir, well played.
Purchased at the first day it came out on Thursday and I absolutely love this game I wish there was a way for them to add more cabins/camp/whatever size because it’s fun to clean them up and set up the rooms

I'm really enjoying this game and I'm not sure if it's just a controller / switch issue compared to the steam vs but the controls for construction and stuff like cooking or crafting is just ridiculous and clunky. I'm hoping there's an update soon because that's the only major issue I've run into with the game. It's crashed a few times but nothing major.

I enjoyed it untill they ask to build 5 bathrooms in a small hotel, which was impossible so I never played again, I couldn't progress anymore. If I did, bathrooms would be all this building would have.

I’m currently playing this on switch and it is a wonderful game but unfortunately the controls are awful, I even rage quit a few because it can make simple tasks very tedious and annoying. I’ve also had 3 crashes in my 10 hours of playtime. Still I’m absolutely loving it but I sure hope these issues can be fixed asap!
The gameplay is fun and cute but the control is sooo bad. So many time I hit Y and take all the items from stash by accident, and you have to do it again one by one bcs there is no quick button, and many more problems quit it. 14/20 point is generous.
Since I'm currently replaying Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition after spending two months on Xenoblade 3, I'll wait a bit on this one - but then I'll pick it up for sure and hope that there will have been a few patches in the meantime :)

Hi no you can’t use US cards in Canada we are adding to the Canadian store but it’s taking a while. You could buy a US card and use it on a US Eshop account on your Nintendo switch though as it’s region free
This review convinced me to get this game, and I really enjoy it so far. It's a lot to take in, but can see myself getting lost in it. However, after only about three hours in, I've had three crashes already. Also, feels like way too much dialogue for this kind of game. But as loveable as a big ol' bear, so I'm digging it. I've tried some of these work-your-ass-off-for-free games and I don't get the appeal. This one looks cute but I prefer to earn real money in the real world working much less hard than in these games TBH.
Could please you do a tutorial on the UI and controls for the switch…I’m really having a hard time as I’m sure many others are. It’s keeping me from playing….like it took me a long time to figure out how to get into and read the tutorials as you did mention. Really wonky and convoluted.

Hopefully text size and some control bugs can be added in a patch, shame it's no coop because I wanted to love Stardew but the coop in that game is well, dog crap

Out of curiosity, to your knowledge do devs watch your videos and make some of the recommended suggestions you make in your reviews? You had some good "clean up" ideas, and quality of life improvements for the player. Just curious, how seriously devs take that feedback.
I've been playing for about a week now. Absolutely love the game however, it started quitting in the middle of the game saying there was some kind of error. I end up losing maybe the last 10 minutes of progress unless I had fast traveled recently.

Purchased at the first day it came out on Thursday and I absolutely love this game I wish there was a way for them to add more cabins/camp/whatever size because it’s fun to clean them up and set up the rooms

I'm really enjoying this game and I'm not sure if it's just a controller / switch issue compared to the steam vs but the controls for construction and stuff like cooking or crafting is just ridiculous and clunky. I'm hoping there's an update soon because that's the only major issue I've run into with the game. It's crashed a few times but nothing major.

I enjoyed it untill they ask to build 5 bathrooms in a small hotel, which was impossible so I never played again, I couldn't progress anymore. If I did, bathrooms would be all this building would have.

I’m currently playing this on switch and it is a wonderful game but unfortunately the controls are awful, I even rage quit a few because it can make simple tasks very tedious and annoying. I’ve also had 3 crashes in my 10 hours of playtime.
Still I’m absolutely loving it but I sure hope these issues can be fixed asap!
The gameplay is fun and cute but the control is sooo bad. So many time I hit Y and take all the items from stash by accident, and you have to do it again one by one bcs there is no quick button, and many more problems quit it. 14/20 point is generous.
Since I'm currently replaying Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition after spending two months on Xenoblade 3, I'll wait a bit on this one - but then I'll pick it up for sure and hope that there will have been a few patches in the meantime :)

I just have one quick question: the text seems awfully tiny. Is there an option to enlarge the text size? I’ve been burned a lot by PC ports with tiny text that doesn’t translate well going from PC monitor to TV.

What a charming game. I only heard of it recently from the channel's upcoming games video. It really looks like a game you can unwind and get lose so much time to. The controls seem overwhelming but I don't think that's a deal breaker. Thank you for the review. I will pick this up at some point.

Hi no you can’t use US cards in Canada we are adding to the Canadian store but it’s taking a while. You could buy a US card and use it on a US Eshop account on your Nintendo switch though as it’s region free
This review convinced me to get this game, and I really enjoy it so far. It's a lot to take in, but can see myself getting lost in it. However, after only about three hours in, I've had three crashes already. Also, feels like way too much dialogue for this kind of game. But as loveable as a big ol' bear, so I'm digging it. It’s such a pain when you get a lot of crashes, make sure you install to internal memory the patch is done and waiting approval from Nintendo apparently. Mark

Sadly, my wife bought this on Steam, and it crashes CONSTANTLY making the game near unplayable. The developer really needs to improve the performance :/
