Every time I play basketball, I work so much more effectively that day. Adele Diamond is spot on.

I have watched this at least 3 times and learn something new each time! Dr. Diamond uses brilliant science to say what we all know in our hearts. Our kids need us to change!

"If you can't learn the way we teach, we'll teach the way you learn." (She said that's the motto of a school in British Columbia. It should be every school's philosophy!:) So many great quotes in this talk... I will definitely watch it again when I have more time to focus in and take notes. Good stuff!

Many teachers in the classroom already employ executive functions. Now they will be reenforced and given terminology for what they are doing. Adele Diamond should be given free reign in the Department of Education to institutionalize these reforms in teacher training colleges and universities. Very, very interesting.

Just to clarify, at 10.25..."prefrontal cortex functions more efficiently in those who report they feel lowly and isolated"?

Good call! Dan Siegel discovered that error a few weeks after the talk. I asked the TEDx host to let me correct it (completely at my own expense) but he would not let me. Yes, PFC functions LESS efficiently in those who report they feel lonely or isolated. I wish I could correct that in the video, but I cannot.adele diamond

"Stress impairs executive function and causes anyone to look as if he/she has an executive function impairment like ADHD, when that's not the case at all..." GTK!

Very good. Tools of the Mind is great. Montessori is horrible. No agency and teacher lead in a weird way. Not accepted by the teacher if not lock step in the work cycle. The kids are trained and insulted if you say the word play.

What you wrote here is NOT true of REAL Montessori, done the way it should be done. Unfortunately, because the name was never trademarked or copyrighted, anyone can claim to be doing Montessori.

    • @avramrips2809

I am in a REAL Montessori with a child that has difficulty with engagement and socialization. He is not allowed to practice social engagement, no opportunity and no play. Do you see any research that children at 4 should learn cursive? That’s their material and curriculum, also writing numbers up to 1,000. Yes some of the materials are good like cubes, seriation and trinominal blocks.
