    Excellent review. Very detailed and honest. I wish more reviewers would go into as much detail when reviewing a product. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.

    Even in June of 2023, I'm still stuck deciding between the Note Air 2 plus and the A5x.
    Price isn't a factor, and I don't care about color. I'm planning on using the device primarily for note taking during meetings, as well as realtime screen shares through zoom like a remote whiteboard.
    My only real thought on going with the Boox is that it may be easier to get my meeting notes OUT of it, and into my computer / cloud where it can be reviewed and sent out to others.

    I’d love for you to do a comprehensive video on the Boox software specifically on using the handwriting to text conversion feature. I have a Boox Max Lumi 2 and use the conversion tool that comes with the Boox’s original note taking app and although it sometimes works well, it is generally horrific… for example, it will convert the words accurately and then mix the order up, it doesn’t carry over the format of paragraph style you write in and I can go on and on. Am I missing something? If you already have a video on how to use their handwriting to text conversion feature or how to make it a more pleasant experience, please provide a link. Other than that, keep up the good work.

    Hi, as a non-native English speaker, I set the playback speed to 75 percent of normal speed and turned on the subtitles.
    From this moment on, watching the tutorial video was nothing but pure pleasure.
    The way you speak is very understandable and calm (maybe the reduced speed? :), I didn't even need to pause once to read the subtitles, which happens in many other videos (not yours).
    I liked the thoroughness in the description throughout the review, and especially your ability to highlight and convey the nuances, even the most subtle.
    Just yesterday I received the Note 2 Plus and haven't opened it yet. Now I feel more confident, when I know what to expect, and how to work with it.
    Thank you!

    Completely agree that you need to give it time to adapt to. This was my first e-ink tablet and I was really excited to incorporate it into my daily work flow and ditch the multiple notepads and journals that cluttered my desk. I am immediately fell in love with the writing experience, but learning to navigate took a lot of time. I still struggle with sharing and syncing notes and using the Boox app to transfer files, but the overall practicality of organizing meeting notes has been great. The battery is amazing. Voja do you know if you can copy/paste note pages from one folder to another? I can use the lasso tool to move content within a notebook, but have not had luck going between two different notebooks. Thanks

    I've been seeing your videos every day for a month. It is a pleasure to listen to you and I say thanks! I evaluated my needs and finally bought the Onyx Boox Note Air 2 Plus from the Good E-Reader store. It's a shame that I have to report them, as they are very slow in processing the order. When I reopen file on boox I can easily see my comments and continue annotating, but when I export file to computer my annotations disappear. Probably it's because docx is not supported (?). Is there any way to save docx file as pdf on boox? If yes, how?

    Got one recently after watching your reviews, my thoughs on the Note Air 2 Plus are:
    Size, shape and weight are a bit uncomfortable to hold, especially compared to my reference paperwhite 6.8". Display is good, but side to side the Kindle is nicer to look at.
    As for the good parts, well the size makes everything easier to read, and it's really pretty, pleasant metal to touch.
    Writing, I don't intend to do much but it's good enough for me to write things down quickly. Full Android ecosystem.
    Neoreader is a little tough to navigate, but the customization is incredible. Especially underrated is the reflow option which makes full size PDFs perfectly readable, with minimal formatting issues. I'm actually shocked how well it works. Speaker is terrible but it's decent enough to play a podcast or radio so no complaints
    Overall very good first impressions, it will be worth the price unless it starts having defects.

    I was really loving the Remarkable 2 but the Boox is starting to grow on me, plus most comments I've seen with people that used both devices say that Boox totally surpasses Remarkable. Based on your review the Boox seems to be more valuable in terms of apps and capability

    • @PhilipDudley3
      @PhilipDudley3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I cannot recommend the reMarkable 2 anyone because of the Connect Plan. From what I understand is, once I cancel the plan, or never sign up for one, all I get is local storage and usage. I lose the ability to do screenshare, using the desktop app to upload/export documents. I don't care about Cloud Sync or any of that hoopla.

      I know this comment is a while old, but just in case anybody still wondering, Onenote works very well. Onyx have optimized the Handwriting so that you write directly onto the screen with no lag. Then, once you stop writing it refreshes onto the Onenote page. It sounds weird, but it's very usable. Not as good as Samsung note series, but good enough - Onenote is one of the main reasons I got this tablet, and I'm happy using it daily.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for watching! Well, yes, most definitely it would work, but you may want to consider a smaller format, like the Nova Air 1 (yes, 1, not 2 nor Nova Air C), or Supernote A6X, or even Mobiscribe Origin. Since you will be using it on site, portability is something that will be important (I assume) and while the Note Air 2 i portable, it's still a 10.3" device.
      Then again, if you need the screen real estate for the sketches, then that large format is the benefit, and you may want to check the Supernote A6X as well. Remarkable 2 would fit the bill very well here, except that it is a very fragile device, so that should be kept in mind.
      I would personally go for a plastic device because they are lighter and less fragile than the metal+glass combinations.

However, I will be using it to take notes primarily and I noticed the recording function of the notes in this video, as you said, is not super functional. Is this the same on the note air 2? I'm trying to currently decide between note air 2 and the note air 2 plus. I don't remember that happening in the comparison video between the note 5 and the best 10inch after a year. Thanks for your amazing videos. My main use case is reading PDF textbooks for my masters program, so I went with the Boox Note Air 2 Plus. I'm tech savvy and knew what I was getting into thanks to you and Kit Betts-Masters, but wow....the UI is bad. I think you have navigational muscle memory that is helping to smooth out the roughest edges. I found the UI to be so unintuitive and kludgy, complete with inconsistent behavior and unhelpful error messages. After about 4 hours of tinkering with it I've made enough progress to feel like it will be able to handle my unweildy PDFs, but I'm kind of sad about having to keep it. I think the Supernote A5X would be a better user experience, but I'm not confident their PDF viewing options are robust enough to make my small-print textbooks readable. The hardware is nice and I can see it has a very powerful potential, but they desperately need a strong UI designer. In my experience, I don't really notice it unless I really look for it and compare side by side with an ips screen like an iPad. It is slightly less clear than a smaller form factor like the Kindle due to size, but the ppi is very usable and clear to me.
      If I had to make an analogy, it's like comparing 1080p and 4k on a 24" monitor. Is 4k clearer? Yes. Is it worth getting 4k over 1080p? In 99.999% of the cases, no, 1080 is perfectly usable.

    • @MyDeepGuide

      Handwriting synchronization is only possible if you use a Boox account. If you are synchronizing on Google Drive, then the only way to do it is to export the annotated document and synchronize it. This can be done as an automatic thing, by enabling the option that the device exports the document to a specific location automatically, each time the document is closed. However, you have to ensure that you trigger the synchronization, as it will not happen automatically.

    You make this mistake in many of your videos, so my OCD forces me to correct you: "Wacom layer" does NOT add its layer on the TOP of a screen. Just search for some disassembly videos of Wacom tablets: this layer is UNDERNEATH of the screen, it consists of simple flat coils, either made from a wire, or PCB-printed. These coils interact inductively with a coil inside of a pen, thus there is no need to place them on top of the screen - the electromagnetic induction works OK through the screen...

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, since UK left the EU, now everything coming into UK, that's not coming from UK is being imported into your country and as such carries import tax that the buyer must pay. Since Boox doesn't have a UK store, and the closest one is the EU store, that means that you would still end up importing it into the UK. Try and find a UK electronics store that sells eReader devices and they might have Boox devices there, and since that is a local store, then the tax will be included in the price you pay at that store.
      I don't think that any marketing (good or bad) has anything to do with international import regulations, so that part I don't agree with.

      @@MyDeepGuide I've read about the NA2 and NA2+ that I was about to buy: numerous comments on various website mention this and also the cracks that appear on the screen (fragile aluminium+glass) for no reason but to be honest I've read that for RM2 too. I would advise potential buyers to browse Reddit with keywords "NA2 cracks" and "swollen batteries" this is mindblowing.
      Some users say it concerns all Boox products but I can't confirm. I may still buy this product, especially in Europe where we have the 2 years warranty. But it's definitely something to factor in: some of the buyers WILL have to deal with their awful customer service: read the GCU people, fees may apply!
      (thanks for your test btw, I don't mean to be rude)

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's nothing rude about sharing important information about a product people might buy :) So I thank you for that :)
      I personally have never experienced any of the above mentioned issues, and I've been using Boox products for years, but that doesn't mean that there aren't going to be cases of proper or improper use that might lead to issues. Typical case of improper use would be forcing the battery into a state of rapid discharge and charge at the same time (for example, using it as an external screen, while having it plugged to a fast charger). That is a sure way to kill any battery on any device, as it is simply killing it with overheating. A battery destroyed in that way will swell up and that might cause it to crack the screen. But again, this will be true for any battery and any device, and as you mentioned, it happens far more frequently with the Remarkable 2. Metal chassis are not flexible, so in the case of a battery swelling up, if it can't move the chassis, then the screen will take the brunt of the pressure and will crack. This risk is significantly lower on devices with plastic type of construction, like the Suprenote A5X.
      As for shipping, I have heard a complaint that the user had to send the unit with a damaged battery via a ship (which takes a long time, naturally), which is perfectly normal, as it is illegal to board defective batteries onto airplanes since the whole exploding Samsung smartphones fiasco. So that's and international safety shipping regulation that has nothing to do with a specific company.
      As for return conditions, well, yes, obviously people need to read conditions, and again, I don't see it how is it a strike against the company if a user doesn't read conditions that are marked very clearly when purchasing a device? There has to be at least a shred of responsibility on the buyers shoulders, and these things are clearly, at least for me, a buyer responsibility, as everything is clearly marked when purchasing a device. I would understand the complaint if the information was convoluted or hidden, or obstructed (like it was with Remarkable 2 marketing Connect features without mentioning that those features required a paid Connect subscription, for example), but this is not the case here.
      I do understand the disappointment, I really do, but failed units happen all of the time in all areas, for example, I am now in week 7 of waiting for a replacement guitar to arrive, because the initial unit I purchased developed factory defects. But do I blame the factory, the brand or the store that sold it to me? No, because this stuff happens all of the time in all areas. So, things like this suck, I totally agree, but are normal in today's world and are not brand specific.

    Some issues I've found: Typing into the Notes app, hardly works at all. It is incredibly slow and error prone. This was solved by switching off predictive text and another feature, and the typed text is a useless .PDF or .PNG file. Why? Utterly stupid. Sending books from my Android tablet is via WiFi and a bit clunky t.b.h. I had to download Simple Text Edit from the Google Play to reliably type text as a .txt file. Then, sending the file to the same Android device was by Blutooth. Bonkers or what? It should be send AND receive the same way: WiFi or Blutooth. Lastly, it did not connect to my computer via the USB cable. Again, why? This is 2022, not 1992.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Speed is due to refresh mode, switch to A2 mode, and while you'll have more ghosting, for text typing, it is a far better experience.
      You can share files any way you want, email, cloud service, or Boox service, the choice is yours, you just need to learn how to do it properly and to find your own preferred workflow.
      USB connectivity works, but you need to enable File Transfer USB connectivity mode, as on any other Android device from the notifications, as the default is charge only, which is default on majority of Android devices.
      All of the issues you mentioned are not issues themselves, but are a reflection of what I mean when I say that there is a steep learning curve and that Boox devices require time, patience and actual effort to learn how to use them as a tool. As such, they will not be a fit for everyone.
      If it was 1992 it would more likely be a parallel or a serial port, rather than USB port, as it didn't exist back then, huh. I'm getting older, that was 30 years ago and I remember it... Damn :/
      Anyway, now you damn kids, get off my lawn, or I'll bore you with pre-sound card PC gaming experience stories!

      You do know that you can use the timestamps chapters to skip over the sections that don't interest you personally, or is that something beyond your capacity? Also, it is quite arrogant to assume that your personal priorities and needs coincide with other's to such a degree to write "we" instead of "I" or "me". If you are not interested in a topic, skip a chapter. If you don't like my work, skip the video or the entire channel. Internet is a big place, but don't whine about it.

      @@MyDeepGuide your channel will grow by leaps and bounds by attacking the very people that watch your videos. The comments section is exactly that ... a place where viewers can leave THEIR comments NOT what you want them to leave.

      Timestamps are there for the viewer to decide how to navigate the video, according to their individual interests.
      Your individual needs are your own and you can't say "we want" for something you want and not expect to be called out on it. Some people (other than yourself, I know it's a hard concept to grasp for you, apparently, but other people do exist with interests that don't coincide with your own) are interested and find the information about the cover, for example, quite important.
      So again, if you don't like a video or a channel, don't whine about it, simply move on. It's really quite simple, internet is a big place, and I'm sure you'll find a place more to your liking, so do feel free to explore :)
      As for comments, well yes, you are free to leave a comment, of course, but then other people, myself included get to respond to your comment. That's how this stuff works. Again, quite simple :)
