WHAT YOU'RE UP AGAINST WHEN DRIVING
Social driving is based on a loose set of road rules creating a driving culture of “Hurry up and go!”
This driving culture fosters a prevailing attitude of “Me first!” in drivers.
Almost all drivers would agree with the statement: “I’m a good driver!”
Most of the time, drivers get along with other traffic on the roadway. Yet, they're reactionary and retaliatory when another road user violates their perceived code of driving “right.”
In other words, you got in their way, they had to slam on the brakes, and they screamed a lot of bad things about your mother. In response to whatever you did wrong, they honked their horn and tailgated you for a couple of blocks.
Traffic law no more prevents traffic crashes than criminal law prevents crime!
The following traits are some of the hallmarks of social driving.
    HALLMARKS OF SOCIAL DRIVING
    • Stopping too close at traffic light.
    • Following too closely.
    • Failing to yield.
    • Passing in the right lane.
    • Not stopping at STOP-signed intersections.
    • Changing lanes in intersections.
    • Not signaling.
    • Not looking before reversing.
    • Drifting over when turning on multi-lane roads.
    • Eating, drinking in vehicle.
    • Using electronics while driving.
    • Not shoulder-checking.
    • Charging yellow lights.
Because they’re following too closely, drivers give up control of their vehicles. Most of the time, nothing happens. Still, on a wing and a prayer, they hope they’ll be able to react in time to stop their vehicle if the vehicle in front slows down or suddenly brakes.
    It’s a victimless crime.
Nobody got hurt; thus, there’s nothing wrong with what they’re doing or nothing wrong with the way they’re driving.
How many times have you heard a driver say, “I’ve been driving for twenty years and never had a crash”?
NOT crashing is the measure of their supposed success.
The actions of drivers are often retaliatory. For example, one driver tailgates another, who slows down 10 mph only to get back at the other driver.
Or a driver tailgates another motorist because he feels she’s driving too slowly.
Have you noticed that someone driving slower than we are is a dummy, and someone driving faster is a bonehead?

@Smart Drive Test: Rick, regarding flashing green lights, they're very very common in Quebec but they have a completely different meaning: it means the car facing flashing green have priority. For example if you're making a left turn, flashing greens means you can go because the oncoming traffic will have red.

Always remember that speed doesn't define you as a great driver. It just means that you think you absolutely mustn't be late to get home so you make a lot of daft, suicidal decisions that can negatively impact someone else's day. Okay, you've proven that you can drive faster than your grandma. So what? What have you achieved?

Rick, you haven't been in Vancouver coming off of the north shore on a Friday afternoon. Vehicles are actually stopped leading on to the hwy and hwy traffic Is also very slow... it's crazy

Regarding the tailgating advise that was given which was to increase your speed so you don’t make the situation worse, I don’t think this is good advise because very few people follow the speed limit if you have to increase your speed to not piss someone off, then you put yourself into a risk of getting a speeding ticket. I took defense driving course and the advise for such situation is to actually slow down or pull over but NOT to speed up.
Also I get that turning left/ right and changing lanes are 2 separate steps, but most drivers will not let you change lanes so it’s just easier to combine the steps.

You need to watch that again my friend. I did NOT say to increase you speed. I said to increase your following distance so that you can prevent aggressive braking. See this vid: th-cam.com/video/LzgcJbBmAfc/w-d-xo.html Drop us a note if we can help further. All the best, Cheers Rick

Thank you for clarifying Rick. I watch your videos often because I want to be safe and good driver. My comment was more about situations such as a vehicle following too close behind me(not sure what the term for it is) but by doing that they try to tell you that you drive too slow. And in fact I followed the speed limit whether 30 or 40miles, but was being punished for it.
Thanks for making these great videos.

Tesla's are expensive and unreliable but the GM Bolt is half the price and reliable.
