Dude- I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you put into this video! I have been looking at twig stoves (along with alcohol stove)for my get home/backpacking bag and was getting overwhelmed with the styles and types available. The opinion and experience of someone who has actually used and carried them all (and is not trying to sell me one) is invaluable! I have hit the "subscribe" button and am looking forward to viewing the rest of your videos. :)

The link you provided to Ritz' interview was a great read! i suggest that anyone else interested in how a bush stove comes to be through its evolution, and the feats of creation, also read into the link. It's all about how the Bushbuddy (Ultra) of today came to be! Much more interesting/inspiring than you would expect.

I do like the idea of adding airflow though, so thank you for that idea. I have never closed the door on mine as you suggested, just don't need to. I've been curious on the others you showed. One of very favorite gear videos! I bought the firebox nano because of this video. You explain why and how good and bad for each stove and your obvious experiences with them, not just a guy who bought a bunch just to do comparisons. If you could do more of these on different equipment that would be great. Your experience and knowledge is genuine and very appreciated. Thanks

  • @puma1304
    @puma1304 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

good choice! I never had any doubts about the nano and the bushcraft, and that is why I have both! I also like it minimalistic and that is why I use them alternatively with twigs or/and the trangia burner, gas is comfortable but rather a nonsense if you go trekking. I also own an old Svea123 and I still love it, although it is a little bit heavy and carrying gasoline around is kind of a nuisance... but it is still great for my fisherman's cabin, and it has so much charm! (as the famous kelly kettle or the old primus stoves)

Great Overview and great video footage with the picnic table flame-off! I liked your comparative approach and the 'different strokes for different folks' attitude. As an older guy, I am a base camp type. I had a Kelly Kettle system (and forgot to take the cork out when I fired it up the first time (so I got the steam bath they warn against.) These days, 'I Go Solo' but the Firebox people are amazing in their products and in their cooking/baking demonstrations. I hope your viewers check them out at well.

I like the in-depth on the stoves. I’ve only used a homemade hobo stove made from an old metal coffee can, in conjunction with the fire already going for heat and or light. I’ve never been adventure camping or backpacking though. I would like to at some point though. Love the videos and keep them coming. Till the next one safe travels and good health.

Loved that Doug! I thought I was a stove hoarder!! I’ve got a Honey Stove, also fiddly to assemble, but light - 300g in stainless - great stove. Just bought a Firebox g2 a month ago - love that one too - I think I’d even put up with the weight on backpacking trips for the size of fire you can have in it. Always a trade off! Thanks for the video - it was fun! Atb, Simon.

Thanks Doug. A lot of great info in this video. I've been trying to choose a nice twig stove. I think I'll go with your #1 pic. The bushcraft essentials lt. It's abit pricey, but it is easy to fold, not too small or too big, will hold a nice range of different size pots or pans.

Great vid, someone who has great depth of use and knowledge on anything is very handy for everyone. I'm sold on Bushcraft Essentials after getting the XL as a birthday present (my idea), beautifully engineered but pretty heavy for backpacking. Will look into the LF as a more practical hiking stove. Anything that folds flat and is not too heavy, to me, is a winner. Thanks.

Yeah I had the firebox nano and the bushbuddy on my wish list and I'll get them both.
I read the article with Fritz Handel last winter and was sad to see he retired but I was glad to see that Jeff still makes them.
Just hope I had gotten one from the original maker, straight from BC and shipped in a wooden box!
Too bad a lot of people don't know about them and get the chinese made solo stove because they pop up everywhere!
The price difference is marginal to get a lighter, handmade one and you get to encourage a cottage industry as a very nice bonus!

    Fantastic video! Super informative!
I don't think you ever make a bad video, even when you bring along that scrawny guy.

Perfect. Just the fact, letting me decide what will work for me. Fingers full of soot, handling each stove as a guy would, and unbiased opinion. I learned several things in your video, thanks. Cast Iron Kid

I love my Solo stove. I also really like the Emberlit Fireant...i keep it behind my HC canteen/cup in the standard GI canteen holder. Makes for a nice, compact all in one cooking kit.

You are so damn refreshing to watch. No bs just experience and your opinion from trial and error. A true woodsman as if said before. Wish I'd seen this early I bought the littl bug junior but don't like the no bottom and I'd prefer a double wall like bush buddy or lt bush cooker lol. Oh well what's another 100$ on some steel right hahaha

Thank you Doug - was hoping your clan of backpacking buddies might go over backpacks sometime! I want to purchase a backpack for let’s say 10 day -14 day camping/hunting trips. Again thanks for your time on the stoves-- was very helpful to me. Regards Daniel
