You should go and watch the other presentation of Pond years ago... Cheryl had a different look from today haha OMG... anyway LOVE HER :3 She's the best!
Finally sat down and listened to tame impala, tons of interviews, found out about Pond, thought Nick was so interesting so looked em up, literally the first song ive heard just now and omg Nick! Im blown tf away!!! And man this set really is beautiful! 5 mins in and im so hooked!
I had a real reluctance to check Pond out for some reason, like yourself I was smitten immediately. Check out the Rough Trade set if you already haven't.
I have watch this video several times and noticed I did not comment. I want to say this is one of the best interviews I have seen someone do with a band. Cheryl knows the bands history and styles and it shows. She knows how to make an interview worth watching over and again. Thanks! Good stuff :) And of course, the Pond lads deliver!.. Champions of the few!!
One of the greatest performances I've seen from a band, capturing the power and integrity of the album version. That shit is hard to do. Pond is like nothing else.
KEXP got me into pond many years back... pumped they keep bringing them back and love this new studio. another gem. how about cheryl just chills while they freakin jam out. fuckin great.
Totally agreed. I only discovered them maybe 4 months ago...but now I genuinely adore this band. It's very rare...but every now and then, I'll stumble across a *_perfect_* band/artist that for whatever reason just totally clicks with my own intuitive sense of music itself. I write/record my own music, and coming across a band like Pond is kinda humbling in a way. This new album, The Weather, just _slays_...it's perfect. And it's almost perfectly equivalent to my own approach to music...leaving me constantly thinking _"gah...why didn't I think of that??"_ But I love it! I love seeing highly creative intelligent weird people create music. It's invigorating and reminds me why I fell in love with music to begin with. And that last song they play...The Weather, it's just so damn beautiful. The whole album has this gorgeously idiosyncratic Bowiesque yet hyper-modern soulful shoegazey edm vibe. Yay for adjectives! But the title track really stands out imo. It's the kind of song that sounds like it always existed, and the guys in Pond simply unearthed it. Anyway, it's a killer song, so I hunkered down to figure it out. So, for anyone who's interested, the whole song is as follows...... *E major (with that cool E-G#-A-G#-F#-B riff over top) - B minor - D major - A major - G major - B minor - C major - G major* That's basically it, and then you can throw in little suspended chord alterations(which work well with this song) to liven it up. Have fun!
Yes man! I totally agree, the vocals are certainly influenced by Bowie. Songs like the Edge of the world pt 2 remind me of pink floyd dark side of the moon. I hope this album gets the recgonition it deserves.
1:54 Nick here always reminds me of Roger Waters in "The Wall" by Pink Floyd... If I close my eyes I can see waters screaming ahead of the fallen wall!
SJN Productions Thats true. But this was also broadcast on the radio im assuming so theres quite a large audience there that might not be into the Perth scene quite as much as we are
Classic Cheryl, being the all time homie and stuff.
I love Sheryl so much
You should go and watch the other presentation of Pond years ago... Cheryl had a different look from today haha OMG... anyway LOVE HER :3
She's the best!
Cheryl is so chill she is that friend that helps you through a bad trip
oh my god I wish I could hang out with Cheryl just for that reason.
Nail on the head!
Every time they come Jay is playing something different.
nick is SO precious...I'm thankful for him everyday
me too!
Nick's voice blows me away on "30,000 Megatons." So good.
Better than the studio recording
0:56 - 30,000 Megatons
4:30 - Interview
9:34 - Paint Me Silver
13:58 - The Weather
thx!
Awesome!
All these songs honestly sound better on this live recording than the studio/album what a frickin stellar band
i was in the control room for this! one of the best moments of my life
Wish I was there too
What? You’re working at KEXP? Get me a job there🙃
Wish that were me
lucky bastard!
The Weather is awesome and yeah also is literally in Perth today aha ehe 😉
Australian’s have such a raw honesty which spills into their music it seems

You're definitely not alone in thinking that.
I'm with you, I just hear it and I'm like sharing it with everyone I know, as if its new. it's adorable.
Paint me silver is pretty good too
with some royalties going to Todd Rundgren
the weather is way better

What a delightful presenter
Always have felt like she was the best, she is really nice.
Please try to get Pond again for their new album. They deserve a longer slot too
Also thank you KEXP for all the great music! ❤️
nick is such a gem. i love these dudes so much
Nick reminds me of David bowie and I love it. this band deserves a lot of attention
Paint Me Silver is the most floaty, pure song I've heard
One of the greatest performances I've seen from a band, capturing the power and integrity of the album version. That shit is hard to do. Pond is like nothing else.
Currently, one of the best bands in the world
Santiago ff yes real artists
Nick looks a bit older these days.........about 12ish
Minty November hahahahah
AHAHAHHAHHA OH MY GOD
I'm the same, it sucks when you're young but gets better when you get older.
That'd be 20 by now 😅
Hahaha 16 maybe
After the masterpiece that was "Beard, Wives, Denim" I never thought I'd love a Pond album more... man, was I wrong 💜💙
KEXP got me into pond many years back... pumped they keep bringing them back and love this new studio. another gem.
how about cheryl just chills while they freakin jam out. fuckin great.
I`m late to the party here but I discovered this band a couple months ago and have been absolutely mainlining all their music. Such awesome stuff.
I want Tame Impala on KEXP with Cheryll !
I think thats the holy grail we're all waiting for
oh my god please do it ASAP

I'm a little late but they Tame Impala was on KEXP in 2011. You can google for the audio.

Devon Hanna yeah! yell it! moan it!
Nicolas Jeremias agree
HOMESHAKE HOMESHAKE HOMESHAKE
thats true
Homeshake!? They suck asss
I was told ages ago this lot were exceptional… should have listened. 👍👍👍
30000 megatons sounds perfect honestly.
Was kinda wanting Jay on drums after the last kexp but he was killing it on bass
my dude ireland is laying it down as well thouuugh
There should be a petition to make "30,000 Megatons" the new Australian National Anthem.
Athem of human race
It's been so great to watch Nick grow as a front man on these over the years
probably one of the greatest band of this millennium
The Weather is a fucken masterpiece! One of the best of all time! Hands down
+Dan Gray I reckon Pond's best album for sure.

Nacho Caiafa pretty close, but not enough.. I'm a big fan of delorean highway!
Frank Black yesssss
He tried a one man gig but it wasn't as good without the band :(
ohhh yeah !!!!!!
What a great find. The studio holds the sound perfectly. Wonderful host. Hi Pond. Well done.
Nick's voice on this session is awesome!
the bass in 'the weather' is just So Good oh wow
shiny joe's woo is everything
The way Nick came in with The Weather's chorus was amazing
This album is amazing holy poop
can't wait to see you guys at Gizzfest this year
They fkn killed it last year.
Are they playing jizzfest again??
Dingo Johnson jizz lmao
Yeah fucken oath
Can Cheryl Walters be my mom please!?! The warmest personality and an awesome music taste. Such a nice lady!
mezerome she probably is someones mum! Ha how ridiculous would that be.. like if David Attenborough was your granddad.
She's Ty Segall's mom already
My dream is to play for Cheryl
paint me silver is just amazing
the weather is so good ... the riff, the drums, simply sublime!
I love how KEXP narrators (Please correct me if this is not the right word) always love the bands and musicians they present!
ManuAlvarado22 We call them DJs
Or hosts (?)
@@manualvarado2212 Hosts is good too. you could also call them Presenters.
@@rustyshackleford9963 Thank you Rusty!
@@manualvarado2212 No problem Manu.
That shy bassist became an amazing voice and huge balls singer... wonder what drug this is. Btw thanks Cheryl & thanks KEXP
Oh Làlà this guy used to be shy???

Now that's a Voice!
god pond is so good
Man, first time I see Jay on the bass and he's killing it.
1:54 Nick here always reminds me of Roger Waters in "The Wall" by Pink Floyd... If I close my eyes I can see waters screaming ahead of the fallen wall!
Pond is an amazing live performance. Saw them last week in seattle at the neptune, did not disappoint
Incredibly talented lads. Absolutely adore their music 💗
How of this lot slipped through my net? Brilliant!
Diggin' more of Pond. Love frogs, salamanders, newts, turtles. Keep up the slimy good stuff.
yep that was the quickest 18 minute and 55 seconds of my life so far
I was in a bad mood and this video made me happy, thanks Pond :)
Fabuleux
Thanks from France
Gawwwwwwwdddddd I love Cheryl Waters so much man ...
I love this live performance. The voice of Nicholas is so damn good in this live show.
I usually hate banter. Pleasant surprise. Great music too... in between the banter
Ah very excited for this. Paint Me Silver sounds crisp af
Omg..I love this band !!!!!!!!!!!
Who doesn't?
Love the casual Kevin Parker chat. As if the whole audience knows who he is
wanyesullo Id say most pond fans should know who that legend is
SJN Productions Thats true. But this was also broadcast on the radio im assuming so theres quite a large audience there that might not be into the Perth scene quite as much as we are
yeah he's only the frontman of one of the biggest bands in the world
I'd assume the average KEXP listener would know who one of the biggest current (no pun) rockstars is, tho...
Strangely pedantic? Target demographic? FFS!
Am I really high or is this really the best intro ever in the whole world?
ahh the weather sounds so good
Still love this in studio!! Pond!! Thanks KEXP!
Thanks for sharing. it was a great show in Switzerland!! :)
he sings just like Bowie! love it!
RIP Bowie. A great man!
Nick Sounds Like Bowie.
Was about to say the same ... very much like the Berlin period.
You know, in an original non derivative fashion.
And Kevin Parker was a John Lennon vocal copy at least at the start
I'm like Switzerland - Nick Allbrook 2017
he said they were bathe??? i couldn't understand.
havenoliduponmyhead 8:40
yeah i'm asking did he say there is a lot of bathes going on in between? babes? i know he's switzerland
havenoliduponmyhead beefs, like ongoing arguments
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh there it is. love the nick comment tho. lol
Just came here from the 2012 kexp. My goodness. What a transformation. Someone has been listening to some Bowie.
Pure chills at 1:55 😮 so beautiful..
