    Oooh, so pretty! I really *love* watercolor, but pretty much s**k at it ... but this is a way for me to float gorgeous colors onto thick luxurious watercolor paper and then create beads that are unique and my own. Love, love this idea!
    LOL, my heart went out to you when you said, "Ooooh, I'm flustered." I teach a bit, and do the same thing! But honestly, you're a fantastic teacher! Your enthusiasm for your art is a joy to behold! Thanks for the idea and inspiration!

    Oh wow another creative idea, i love painting, i will try this for sure, hey is there any chance that you could do a video on exactly how you roll up your beads, i even bought slotted beading tools,& i never get any 2 that look alike,i see that yours are persistant.
    I even tried rolling on a tooth pick, it just gets stuck on it, when i try to pull the bead off, the center pulls out of the beads, help.

    • @SantaFeLady
      @SantaFeLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Melody...I don't have the time or a camera right now to make a video, so sorry. Cutting your strips consistently is the first step. There must be thousands of paper bead rolling videos on youtube, I hope you find one that helps you. I did make this short clip, not sure that will help you.

    Can you tell me what size of bead roller you are using? Also, don’t worry about if others have done a similar video- just make the videos you want to make & if you got an idea from another channel than you can mention it but I really wouldn’t worry about if there’s another video similar to yours. Everyone has their own specific way of doing things and they have different ways of presenting or “teaching” it. So even if someone has a video of the exact same process, you might be presenting it in a way that some people understand better than the other videos they’ve watched on the same process. Anyway, just thought I’d let you know & I love your beads but I really need to know what size of roller you are using to get that lovely circle. Thanks so much!!

    • @SantaFeLady
      @SantaFeLady  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your comment. The size of the bead roller has nothing to do with the size of the bead other than a "fatter" roller makes a bigger hole in the bead and a skinnier roller makes a smaller hole. The size and shape of the bead is determined by how you cut your paper strip. For my round ones, the triangles I cut are 1/2 inch wide at the top, then of course tapered to a point and my strips are about 11 inches long. Try that, it should work out just fine for round beads. Experiment with the WIDTH of your triangle...if they are 1 inch wide at the top, you will get a longer bead. And the longer the triangle, the bigger the bead. I hope that helps.

    When you glaze them, do the color bleeds?

    • @SantaFeLady
      @SantaFeLady  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a tiny bit, but to me it adds to the charm of the hand painted paper

  • @krystetaylor1151
    @krystetaylor1151 ปีที่แล้ว

    So what do you do on the edges of the cut strips so they are not white?

    • @SantaFeLady
      @SantaFeLady  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing! They always end up being not so white because I use watercolor and the white glue tends to moisten it and add some color to the edges.

    Actually, I have seen other beads made with watercolor paper, and as it happens, it came from a painting that she didn't like. I wasn't doing watercolor at the time, but ended up painting acrylics on copy paper; three to seven horizontal panels of color, then cutting vertically to roll into beads. To me, your idea is the best of both and unique. I can't wait to try it! Here's a tip for you: if you or someone you know does adult coloring books, that paper makes great beads. This is the video by "the frugal crafter." th-cam.com/video/RcI3m8GY2Ww/w-d-xo.html

    • @SantaFeLady

      Thank you for your comment and the link. MY own personal journey with watercolor paper beads also started with a sheet of watercolor paper and a failed painting on it. My husband was shocked to see me cut it up and turn it into beads, but the beads came out beautiful. I've been making a lot of paper bead jewelry and the watercolor ones have become my "signature bead" if you like.
      With millions and millions of videos on You Tube, it's always difficult to know if your own personal touch is already out there, posted by someone else, isn't it?
      Have fun making your beads! I wish there was a way to add a photo here, I'd love to show you the strings and strings of hand painted watercolor beads that I have made over the summer. My plan is to turn them into jewelry that I will then donate to our local animal shelter retail store to be sold for helping the homeless pets around here.
