Would have liked to see the food, remind the camera man to pan to the food before you eat it, or during the pick up and bite, so we can see the presentation…thanks
There’s a Croaker’s Spot in Southside Richmond VA on Hull Street. This location used to be in the downtown area Historic Jackson Ward. Everything is delicious. I usually eat the cornbread as dessert. Fishboats are awesome. Croaker’s used to do the fish boat with lake trout fried hard. Most people like green peppers onions etc on their fish.
The shrimp & grits always hit for me but yes not traditional. The cornbread tastes like a thick piece of cake 🔥. There are 2 locations and the other one is in Richmond. Darius please try Milk & Honey in Camp Springs, MD before you go, they have some gooooood grits and a menu I think you’d appreciate. It’s loud in there though so maybe dine outside.
@@eldizzy6437 the Jackson ward one was amazing! When it moved to hull st I didn't like the food anymore. The Petersburg one is ok, but the original was the BEST
Croaker Spot never disappoints & the hospitality is always like that. Family owned business that gives their customers a family welcoming feel. This review was cute though 😂😂
I loved the place I wasn’t a fan of what I got. I can’t speak for the entire menu and as far as him He irritates cause the name is CROAKER SPOT so to keep acting like you have to guess what type place it is. You’re being XTRA SIR
I live 3 minutes from where he is sitting. I have eaten at Croaker's Spot many times. One reason it is so popular is that it is a successful black owned establishment. Something that is not as common in the area. The other reason is that people like the sides, and everything is house made. The potatoes are fried that's why they aren't "creamy". I personally am not a fan of garlic in potatoes. I'd rather have a side of the cabbage. Everyone loves the sweet cornbread that is as large as a baby's head. You can get the onions and peppers on the side, which is what I do. I think the fish is pretty good. the breading is pretty well seasoned and crunchy. You do have to look out for bones. Overall it's good. Since they moved into the old farmer's market building it's a lot easier to seat large parties. They had a policy back in the old building of not seating anyone until most of the party had arrived. That wasn't good for the old folks in the party that didn't like to stand around waiting to be seated when you had a reservation. It's not my favorite place to eat fish but I don't turn down luncheons or invitations to go there.
@@messariveriano4881 I don't actually eat out a lot. in Old Towne Petersburg Longstreet is popular. We also like Brickhouse run. I don't go into Richmond that often. I do know that Richmond has it's share of what I call high end chain restaurants. I'd rather recommend locally owned. I'd google it and see what comes up.
@@odd3899 because there are quite a few food tourists who follow this gentleman. We aren’t just attracted to the food but the stories behind them. There is much more to food tourism than eating and rating taste according to your own personal palate.
I’ve been to several and didn’t care for the food but the ppl were very nice and kind. I have nothing bad to say about the place I just didn’t like it but everyone’s taste isn’t the same
Mr dariius....had a bypass he has a new set of taste bud's so he can taste all those flavors....hes very interesting on he's review's thank you ....darius nicely done🤑
I was thinking the samething because that's a lot of food being wasted. I had the sleeve in 2013 and usually I share my meals if they won't take my card.
My wife and I went to the croaker spot to support a black owned business and we were disappointed. They didn’t have flounder only whiting and catfish and the food was salty. The restaurant is nice on the inside and the staff was friendly. Maybe I’ll try the other location in Richmond.
Yes, that's the name of two types of fish. I grew up eating those. My Granny would cook Croakers or Spots on Fridays with homemade cornbread and sometimes fried potatoes with onions! I can see her now. In the kitchen with her apron on and cooking and talking and laughing!Wonderful memories!!❤
@connieedwards8321 Yes, my grandma did too...with spoonbread. My granddaddy used to fish. I was wondering why Darius was acting so confused by the name 🙄
I wish the cameraman would have cut out that customer in the back to the right. She clearly knew she was in the camera. Irritating and distracting. Darius is the 🌟 of this show. Focus on him.
My potatoes were almost cold last time I went. The fish boat is $18 so you'd think they could serve you warm potatoes. I've never been as impressed with the food as a lot of people are, but I do eat there because a lot of people pick it for their lunch celebrations.
Sugar's Crab Shack over on the Northside of Richmond? Ohhhh hell yeah! No matter how long that line is...and there's ALWAYS a long line....I just wait it out and get my food.
You're tasting them frying everything together. Chicken, fish, all of it. The cornbread is dry the sides are always premade and sat under heat lamps. I hate this restaurant.
That is the worst "food critic" video I have ever seen! Next time, know exactly where you are, we don't need to see you order, and leave the weight loss surgery details out! A lot of wasted food, seemingly. The signature dishes should have been featured.😟😢
@ttjohns4821 Yeah, as in not quite done or on point... ugh! If light-skinned person said food was darkskin for being burnt or blackened folks would be mad.
I was going to follow your channel but you through me off with the "too light skinned" comments. I guess that's some kind of slang but as a light skinned Black man I find it offensive and too close to inner race colorism, which is the LAST THING we as a people should still be worried about....
I asked a question that was by passed.. I asked was this a serious comment. Then I laughed because it was funny to ME. So I don't think there's anything to "enlighten" anyone on since everyone in the world has different taste in what they find funny.. but I giggled for sure. ❤️ I say good day!
Who remembers when Croaker Spot was "Eggleston's" on 2 Street! Aaaaaah!❤
Try the croakwer spot in Richmond off of hull street , I kinda like them better
Would have liked to see the food, remind the camera man to pan to the food before you eat it, or during the pick up and bite, so we can see the presentation…thanks
i be saying the same thing
The one in Richmond is always crowded. They should expand the building and have live music.
The people in Petersburg and Richmond are usually friendly. Very hospitable
Anytime I headed South, I'd stop at the Croaker Spot. Going or coming. LOVE LOVE LOVE
PLEASE CONSIDER..
Packing all the food and blessing /giving it to the less fortunate instead of leaving it to be throw away .

This is Petersburg Va not Richmond bro!
Same difference/ 15 or 20 min away.
Glad you went to the spot in Petersburg va… because the Croaker spot in Richmond va hull street is the worst …
The one in Richmond is actually the Original one
@charlesjones9478 the original was in Jackson Ward.

The pepper and onion sauce is good but I ask for mine on the side because I don’t like my fish wet

Should have mentioned the history of that building they moved into
Would you care to share the history with us, please? 😊
Why, it’s not going to make the food taste better. This is a food review, not a review of Virginia’s landmarks.

I like the potatoes like they are .
Please show other spots in Petersburg to eat. I always go to colonial heights to golden coral or the Chinese buffet.
Having had the surgery why don’t you present your card and get the slim dishes.

How the lady came over w the yellow shirt bee lined over

Interesting 😂😂😂
I love the Croaker Spot because of the unique special sauces on “normal” southern food.
Seems like you would’ve did a lil research about the spot before you went. 💁🏾♀️
She came over like she had beef 😂😂 D a G though so he smoothed it over.
Petersburg, Virginia this one is way better and way bigger than a one in Richmond, Virginia
Sir, you are in Historic Old Towne Petersburg NOT "Richmond" 😑😒
That hmmmmm😂😂😂😂, it's good
Very picky
You seem to like some corn breads, but they all have eggs in them.
Food is great but a little pricey
Darius, stop fibbing! 😅😅😅

Everything looks warmed up or reheated or microwaved….I like fresh, homemade.

Don't take it personally, it's about the Arnold Palmer, it's to light skinned, meaning the tea wasn't strong enough for the perfect blend w/ lemons
