Yamaha XMAX 300 - One year.. 10,000+km.. long term review?

  • I spend some time to talk about the Yamaha XMAX 300 that I rode for a considerable distance, and try to break down the reasons why it could possibly be one of the better maxi-scooters available in Singapore today.
    I chat a bit about what I've done myself in terms of mods and accessories on the XMAX 300, and some maintenance items that I've done, along with reliability. I touch on some points of other issues that are known about the XMAX 300.
    Perhaps this could help you make a decision on one.

    As an 'old-timer' it was heart-warming to listen to a guy who so clearly knows what he's talking about. Lucid. Informative. Balanced. After some 30 motorcycles, I'm now very seriously considering the 2023 XMAX 300 (standard). As one who used to set contact-breaker points using a Rizla paper and a tranny radio, the Tech version of the XMAX is definitely not for me.

    Your videos are pretty informative and precise without much fluff, if you did all this without a script then power to you.
    This video will be partially informative to me as I am aiming to get Xmax's "sister" bike Tricity 300(yes it's pretty overpriced but that bike was my dream bike that made me pick up 2B in the first place).
    They both share the same storage unit and CVT system(very fortunate that you mentioned that the oil consumption isn't as bad as it sounds, people have described that it was as bad as wuyang bikes) and a good amount of accessories as well. I was planning to install a comfort seat next time but i didn't know that it actually affects storage size until your video so thanks for that tidbit of info.

    Thank you for a very informative and no-nonsense review. Your experience and thoughts on the XMAX similar to mine and, having come down from 'big bikes' (a BMW 1200), I could not be happier with this valiant-hearted little scooter. It punches WAY above its weight on the open road too and is an absolute delight to own and use. Keep up the great work.

    I bought a xmax300 2022 model this year in may ( I test rode a adv350 but after it still chose the Xmax) drove about 10000 km in 7 months. Such an amazing scooter. I'm also a bit shorter and can comfortably stretch out my legs. Only downside I wil say is the breaking power. Maintenance does have really friendly intervals. Can ride it in almost every weather conditions we have heavy winters here and this week I drove in -4 degrees Celsius without any problems. Great bike. Thank you for the video.

    I just had my 2019 Xmax 300 for 5 months and did 10,000km on it, it now has 14k. No problems at all.
    I knew that it was a reliable machine but seeing that it runs fine after 70k km without even checking the valves just proves how well engineered this thing is.
    It has nice and long 10,000km service intervals (oil every 5k). The valves and V-belt are only due at 20k km.
    I can do everything myself except for the valves and tire changes which saves lots of money.
    The stock Michelin City Grip tires are still lasting to this day but I will change the rear one just in case. The front tire can easily go another 15,000km.
    Very economical and very fun, coming from a bigger bike you sometimes miss overtaking power at higher speeds but it is just the best thing for commuting.
    UPDATE July 2023: Cracking 30.000km very soon. Still no problems. Stock City Grip 1 front tire is still going strong😅
    Update January 24: 43.000km. It really has trouble starting at below freezing temperatures but that is really the fault of the tiny battery. Saw some drops of oil on the floor that only started recently, kinda worried now. (Was just the filler plug that wasn´t screwed on properly😂)

      hey i see we have the same bikes with the same km, im right now with 46.000.The question i want to ask you is about the transmission.I have noticed
      compared to when it was new the bike works with more revs to keep the same speed .For example i remember my dash showing 110km with 5850rpm and topping out to 155kmh and in now days for 110km i need around 6100rpm and the max speed in flat terrain reach around 145-150max.Even the fuel consumption is bit more.Have you noticed something similar?
      ofcorse i have change rollers,sliders,belt,filters with the stock ones, only the tyres are "old" because after 20.000km they keep in good condition.

    • @Watson2108
      @Watson2108 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@user-or1gr2ge2n The speed and rpm seems normal. It always was like this for me. 145kph is basically max for me as well. 150 only when there is no wind. I once reached almost 170 but that was downhill with a strong backwind.

    Excellent review, thanks for your work! Gotta question: did you buy YSS' fork kit with preload adjustment? If yes, do you need to remove the fairing to adjust it?

    • @tractionsg
      @tractionsg  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. I didn’t get the one with preload adjustment. Just the YSS Sport kit.
      But on that topic, if you do get one with preload adjustment, the easiest is to set it up when your plastics are out. When the plastics are on, you can - with a bit of finesse - get to the top of the fork when you remove the front two pockets. But it really is much easier to set it up when the bike is naked. Cheers!

      @@tractionsg Thanks for your response!
      Yeah, I was thinking a solution could be drilling a couple of holes on the top or the side and use an Allen key to adjust the forks. Then, buy a 3D print to plug the hole & keep dirt away.

    I noticed with the Forza 350, it is in fact 330cc, whereas the XMax 300 is 292cc, so there is only a 38cc difference, but 300 to 350 sounds larger, in reality, not by much! The Forza will win on the bigger engine psychology, but XMax on beauty and styling! Having said all this, I am considering an ADV 350 (330cc) Interesting analysis! Thank you! I am in North East Thailand BTW!

    • @tractionsg
      @tractionsg  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for watching! I feel that Honda is pretty well supported in Thailand, and running costs can be pretty low for both scooters. The XMAX edges quite a bit over the Forza/ADV in Singapore due to lower part costs for Yamahas here. Either way, both are excellent. Cheers!
