      @@MotorcyclesOffroad WRR is still an advanced bike. It could be back at the top DS if yamaha offer a larger cc engine. The 300L 'feel' lighter because it has a bit more low end torque from its 300cc and honda tuned it to optimize at lower rpm where as WR250R is tuned to maximize HP.

  • @zone47
    @zone47 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    WRR for me easy! I love the firm and well controlled suspension and the engine makes 29 hp which isn't bad. Low end grunt is decent as well. It's a great bike for back road adventures. In the dirt it needs better tires and a tad lower gearing. The 26,000 mile valve adjustment is great! I like the Honda too but it feels cheaper in many ways.... mainly the beginner suspension and I don't like the fixed frame, still for the money it's not bad.

    I mostly ride 2 stroke race bikes on track in SoCal so I picked the wr250r as my dual sport bike because you have to rev the nuts off it to go anywhere and its a more familiar feeling to always be ringing my bike out. Sounds great with Fmf with an ECU flash too 🤙

    • @airadaimagery692
      @airadaimagery692 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not a track man anymore. I want to ride back country roads and trails, and the TAT. My only concern with the ECU flash is finding the proper gas for it every single time you stop. That might be an issue when trying to cross the entire US via trails and back roads...

    I had been looking for my first dual sport bike since roughly may 2022. I bought a brand new 300L in December 2022. If Yamaha still made the WR, I would have bought the Yamaha, as I’m a Yamaha guy at heart. I’m very happy with my 300 so far, even though I haven’t put it thru it’s proper trials yet. I’m not a big guy, so the suspension is no issue for me. One rule I won’t break with this bike is riding on the interstate highways. It’s not what I want or intend to do, I’m lucky enough to live in a rural part of Pennsylvania that’s surrounded by state forest and state forest trails. I bought it as a true adventure/commute to town bike, which so far it’s been awesome. The things I like are the instrument cluster, the ability to lug it in first almost anywhere, the 6 speed is great, the gearing is perfect. The styling is also great, it’s a beautiful bike. Clutch pull is also incredible, although im a one finger clutch guy, so the stock lever setup is already gone. This bike is easy to control with the clutch.
    The build quality is to be expected from Honda, although I’m not thrilled the bike is make in Thailand. The power is everything I need for what I intend on using it for. The stock tires are terrible off road, that you can be sure of. 6th gear is truly an overdrive highway gear, it’s for flat roads only. 5th is perfect for cruising around 45mph. My only other gripe is the twitchy throttle. Throttle response is almost instantaneous and combined with a real light twist on the throttle itself, makes it real easy to whisky throttle this bike for a newbie. I’d call the throttle “extremely sensitive.” Oh and you can’t do stoppies. ABS!

    I prefer the wr250r over the Honda for a few reasons..suspension,frame,and bolt on sub frame, and by changing the sprockets give it the low end tourqe I need plus still has the top end for running down the highway with out ringing it out..though I have to agree about the instrument cluster on the Honda though..I am looking at the 300 rally to add to my stable..but I will never part with my wr250r.... keep up the great content

    Great video. I bought a wrr for trail riding and not too long after I had a bit of buyers remorse and wished I would have went with a klx300 or crf300. I feel like the wr has a hard time in the low end and it makes it a bit more difficult then it should be. I have since converted to a supermoto and geared down 5 teeth on the rear, and it may not be what I bought it for but still love the bike.

      I’ve rode both and I still prefer the WR. I’m only 165 pounds so that might be why but the Honda still had lousy suspension and was heavier, you could cut weight on both bikes and still be 20 pounds less on the Yamaha.

    Hi. Congrats for your channel. I have just discovered it mainly due to my search of good comparisons between the WR and the CRF. A super quick background story: I have owned two wr250r in different moments in time. I had to sold them both every time due to unfortunate economic circumstances. Now I have been trying in any possible way to get to like the crf and buy one. I appreciate all the good points of the Honda that you illustrated in your videos but I still have a question: in all honesty don't you think that, despite the wr being much older than the crf, there is a big difference in the components' quality? I mean, when I look at the frame, at the suspensions, at the engine head and valves.....I cannot but understand why the price of the wr was higher. In my opinion is just made of better stuff.

    I picked up a 2008 WR last year. With the stock exhaust, airbox, and fuel mix, it felt like quite a pig. Changing all three items made it feel like a totally different bike. Add suspension work, proper gearing, and brakes, you have a pretty capable enduro.

    But it's getting tired.
    When i rebuild, it will be with a stroker crank, big bore, and tuner (already have a pipe).
    Should put it in the 290ccs, with the better torque we all want.

    I know this is an older video but you’ve completely missed the point of the WR250R/X’s motor. It was derived from one lung off of a R1 sport bike. If you ride it like you hate it at 9k RPM in the single track it’s a hoot (for a factory DS). Way more fun in the gnarly stuff than my heavily modded DRZ400S was. Loads of torque? Nope.
    I owned a 2008 R when new and built it up for WA single track and it was fantastic (certainly no KTM). I now own an X and it too is a hoot in the city. More exhilarating than my 1050 Speed Triple was on tight backroads because you can really use pretty much all of the bike. The only time I ride below 5k is in traffic.

    Has a owner of 2 wr250r's I have to agree with you, but the crf300 haven't had it's long range reliability test yet. Has the WRR, you can have fun to try to take it's life out of it & repeat the same the next day & over again. This bike will NEVER let you down (with proper maintenance of course).
    So the time shall tell, if the crf300l will be an iconic bike.

      How many Honda dual sports and dirt bikes do you know of that weren’t reliable? Plus, the 300 motor has been around for a while now, and the rest of the bike is built like a typical Honda, both the L and the Rally, so I would put my money on the bike being exceptionally reliable.

    You are wrong. Near the end you compared the weight from a aftermarket fuel tank on a wr to dry weight on crf. Also if you changed the exhaust, gearing etc on crf to get the stock weight of the wr, then think about doing the same to the wr. It would be 15lbs less than the crf still. Plus it’s 50cc less and still makes as much power as a 300. I dyno’d my stock 2014 wr250r and got 26 hp

    • @MotorcyclesOffroad
      @MotorcyclesOffroad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK there is a lot here to unpack. Can you time stamp when I was "wrong" so I can look back and see what you mean. So you can take those weight items off the CRF and add an ECU and still be less expensive then the WR. I have dyno results for both bikes actually, The wr does have 2hp more then then CRF stock but a measly 14ft lbs of torque and it also take 6-8000 rpms to get the hp and torque mostly not usable on tight trails. Next the CRF with the 550tune and exhaust only 450$ total makes 28.87hp and 21.03 ft lbs or torque (I have the dyno charts). So maybe yamaha knew what they were doing when they discontinued this bike from the market.

      @@MotorcyclesOffroadThe cost of the WR chased away new buyers, but that cost paid for what made the WR superior. Yamaha is looking at profit margins not performance on this one. The WR is beloved for a reason, and it was expensive for a reason too! The tall seat height also pushed people away, but they are silly consumers who are silly and just plain silly as hell! Rev it up, slip the clutch, the WR is a beast! WR for the win🥇

      @@MotorcyclesOffroad the crf "300" is a stroked 250 and its really just a 286 I think. Stroking and boring 250 out to 330, EFI or not, would make it a monster off road for sure but you wouldn't retain that "if it exists it starts, if it starts it runs" quality that makes the WRR good on the road.
