Awww, thank you so much Carol & Frank for sharing a little bit about your dear friend. And thank you Randy for making this happen. Two dear, sweet & precious friends here. Wow. I could listen to them tell stories of their times together with Karen for hours. They knew the core of her before all the fame, fortune & limelight. Karen was just *real*. Love this.
Yes. And interviewing people like Carol and Frank for his book " Little Girl Blue" when Randy Schmidt was writing it is why I believe it is absolutely true in its portrayal of Karen's life, family, and marriage to Tom.
Karen was such a beautiful teenager. Nice that she kept touch with all of her friends from the other coast of the country. Would have been quite a transition moving from New England to California.
There was a little corner grocery store in East Haven called Baltimore’s. A lady who worked there knew Karen and Richard when they lived in New Haven. I loved Karen’s beautiful, smooth singing, they were just becoming popular, and I so enjoyed hearing her talk about Karen so personally. Alas, the store is gone, the building is torn down, Karen is, sadly, no longer with us. But we have our memories, and I am glad I found this video.
2:06 I love this woman. So real and honest. “You didn’t have posters on the wall in Agnes’ house. You might’ve had a vacuum cleaner at the front door…”!
Enjoyed this clip with Carol and Frank remembering their friend, Karen Carpenter. I hope there’ll be a longer interview with them included if there’s a future DVD release of the documentary.
What I love about Karen Carpenter is way more than just her beautiful voice🎤, her outstanding Drummer talent🥁, her ability to make us laugh😁😃, her acting ability🎭, but even though I never knew her personally when she was alive, Karen Carpenter💐💐 seemed to me like a down to earth, sensitive, and kind person💙💙💙💙💙💙💙!! I also like the fact that Karen Carpenter collected teddy bears 🧸🐻🐨🐼 like myself and Mickey mouse 🖤💛❤️!!! I so wish I could have met Karen Carpenter💐💐 ,but she died when I was a Kid😢🌹🖤. Karen Carpenter was a very special person and do I believe that she's in Heaven 🙏💛✨ now 🙏 💛✨ and she is very well loved there✨💛🙏!! Maybe Karen Carpenter 💐💐 found the Man of her dreams ✨✨💛💛in Heaven and God loves them both💛💛✨✨🙏🙏🌟🌟!
You can see that these people are still in pain after all these years. Randy Schmitt, not even having known Karen, holds such high esteem for and a depth of sincerity toward her and is respectful to her legacy.
Thank you so much. You confirm what I have also thought about Karen and her nature and upbringing, especially about her reticence about being in the limelight. I did know that she was a big baseball fan. And a down-to-earth person. I am so grateful that her beautiful pitch-perfect voice and interpretations of so many beautiful songs will be heard by future generations. Rest in peace perpetual.
They grew up on Howe street in New Haven when I was a little kid and she was a young teen. She was a fan drummer in early 1960S. The house is no longer there now. Her dad was just a normal working class man. Mom was always feeding guests.
Carol is probably right. Show biz was not something she ever really wanted. She simply followed Richard, as younger siblings are sometimes apt to do. And from all accounts, they were exceptionally close.
Younger siblings do not typically follow the older, they typically move a different direction. They can't compete with a sibling that will always be older, smarter, wiser, faster, and better. Karen wanted to play drums as well as Gene Krupa and that did not come from following Richard, that came from her high school buddy, Mr. Chavez.
But many times , younger siblings Do follow in the footsteps of older siblings. My daughter's high school boyfriend played drums in the band. When his brother, who is 6 years younger, got old enough to join the band, he,too , played drums and later played the quad drums like his older brother. My mom and her sister who was 7 years younger, both became cosmetologists , eventually both owning their own shops.
I disagree with her. I think her anorexia did not start when the family left New Haven. It clearly atarted when A&M execs pulled Karen out from behind those drums
Her dieting began long before her career. She dieted with the Stillman Diet while in high-school. Moving to “fitness oriented” California as a teenager was a factor. Her self image began in her childhood - probably a perfection oriented family which facilitated in their greatness but also unfortunately led to some problems in coping with it all.

Wonderful to hear from two of Karen‘s childhood friends! Karen was truly a special young woman!
Her grade school and high school buds kept her grounded. This is priceless.
Karen Anne was an angel sent straight from heaven 💞 🌹 💖

That is lovely to get a further insight into Karen. I think she was more of a practical joker than Richard.😜🤪

Karen. Downey High School. Yep.
Sad... 😢
It is sad, but Karen's legacy will live on!

Its seeds were planted long before she began performing. They usually start in childhood.
💯 correct
Revelation 13:1-18
Yes, and it Really came into play when she read a review where a reporter called her "chubby."
