I remember when i first got this game for ps1, all the late nights and frustrated cussing. Then to finally finish and not save enough people to get the good ending smh, i learned about hard work and dedication more from this game than all my years in school ❤️

This game never fails to put a smile on my face. I extend my thanks to an old classmate who couldn't stop raving about this game when it first came out.
I like the rag doll animation, especially that one slig that's was hanging off that platform.
This is such an excellent game and you are an excellent player! I watched the entire video and I enjoyed it so much!
Appreciate the eftort and it looked great. However, as msny have already pointed out, the originals sounsa design was haunting. A lot of these old games like Abe and MGS1 had an element of horror that was lost in sequels and remakes.
I think Odyssey version is more harder than this and look better,dark atmosphere more fit,this game is too bright,but still is good game.
Scrabanian and Paramonian temples are massive, they are basically buildings in a building.

@Replicated Media its literally a cinematic platformer game. The game is special in its own way and an open world (like Oddworld Munch's oddysee's style) doesnt fit to the game at all. Munchs' oddysee is utter bs, play it and youll see that "open world" doesnt work for Abe.
To me the old voice acting of Abe was one of the main components that made this game amazingly creepy and tense

Can we talk about how underappreciated Abe is as a videogame protag? He's so charming and beautifully done as a character, I can't help but literally fall in love for him. I'm so excited for the revisioning of Abe's Exodus, aka SoulStorm. The people of Oddworld Inhabitants are amazing!

I liked Abe's mischevious giggle after blowing up a slug in Exodus a lot more then how he giggles in this game.
Still the best ending in a video game imo, the way the glukkons meet their end by that scrab/paramite monstrosity is poetic justice.

I kind of miss the original's sunset transition in the Stockyards' first few screens, from orange to green to finally a clear dark blue night sky. Even though it didn't necessarily make much sense physics-wise, it added a lot to the atmosphere, plus the eerie music with continuous somewhat muffled church organ sounds, and the bassy croaking in the background. This rework doesn't seem bad, but it also doesn't seem to have the same magic and dark urgency as the original.
Totally agree. The essence of the originals is lost in this remake.
Why it didn't make sense? I think it was night when Abe escaped (even during intro he says "I was working late one night"). I imagine RuptureFarms facility made as much light as cities. Stars on night sky cannot be seen from the city but as you move further from it, they begin to be visible. That's how I see that old transition.

A thoroughly enjoyable walkthrough in HD. I really appreciated how you took the time to learn the layout and mechanics of the game. You did it so well that you could afford to inject little moments of comedy into the game, like farting sligs awake and trapping them with machines. Excellent from start to finish, so thanks for uploading.
This is only my opinion, but I feel like this just doesn't have the same aesthetic or feel as the original. It lacks the same darkness and tension, and I think that's what set the original apart from other games in the first place. I think, for the most part, it's because of all the silly voices and dialogue. Makes it feel more like a kid's game. Again, just my own thoughts.

Timesmanify Same with the 4th grade dialogue... the corny rhymes have been around since the beginning. I honestly don't know what people expected other than a prettied up version of the first.
Well, that's what Lanning kinda wanted to do in the 1st place. In interviews & others, I've heard that he's always wanted to make games that generally everyone in the family can play. Even when you transition from Oddysee to Exoddus in the original series, you can tell that there was a tone-shift more towards sillier antics. More jokes, less looming shadows over all the levels, the games have been doing this decent since the moment we left Oddysee.
For me, it's not the voices, but in the cutscenes, the movements are exaggerated too much to the point where it feels too comedic. In the original games, you had your giggle moments but ultimately the game was darker and grittier. The gameplay graphics are brilliant but the cutscenes feel cheap...but this is just my opinion...

I agree the original was more creepier or evil feeling which made the original abe's oddysee better. The sligs sound was deeper and more badass in the original.
Everyting was better in old game, in my opinion they could make it compatible with modern H/W, widescreen, hi-res etc. The third dimmension and new voices killed this game. Even Abe's voice and chanting sounds stupid.
They just should add a old Sounds Option oh btw and some blood is missing too if Slogs or Mudokons get shoot.
I see New N Tasty more as a own Game. It plays very good as a third Game after you have completed Oddysee and Exoddus.

I still have oddysey and exodus these games are too fucking awesome to ever get rid of. Idk what to think bout this HD version. I was expecting it to be really shitty but surprisingly it looks pretty good. It is missing something... I think its the dark grittiness? And some the sounds and dialogue aint right but overall seems like they kept it pretty original. Nice work to the creators :) still gonna stick with the ps1 version

I hated how they changed the buttons from the original..took AGES to get used to lol kept dying because my mind wanted to push triangle for jump instead of x, still don't understand why they changed it.

+GamingByteTv The controls for the original were tight there was no need to change it. Also the map at 8:26 shows you where all the secrets are if you look closely. They should have done something like Abe's Exodus where there is a pile of bottles on the screen where a secret is hidden.

Can the bitching side of the Broken Base just decide to keep both games and go on with their lives? It's a game made nearly 20 years ago. The freaking layout is all the same, only they went next-gen with it. There's nothing different with the soundtrack, Abe's voice is exactly the way it is on the cutscenes, instead of the pitched one in gameplay, so what? It's not any easier or harder than the original, it's THE SAME FREAKING GAME. The characters all move the same, they just made it 3D. If you just prefer the atmosphere of the first game, that's okay, but it's no reason to diss this game because "Oh, I like being retro".
Whatever you feel about the game, at least they are trying to revive the series and Oddworld. Would you rather keep this amazing series dead? Abe's journey ending with no conclusion, no final battle, just a grea story and its great characters being put on a shelf and forgotten?
The series is dead and has been so for a very long time. It's not the same game they didn't just update camera angles, and sounds, they revamped the whole game play mechanic it's like saying Golden Eye on the Player Unknown battleground engine would be the same. The greater movement controls, faster walking speed and side scrolling all take it from a precision screen by screen puzzle platformer to an action platformer. While before you had to memorize what a screen would be and hope an enemy hadn't moved now you can see them clearly, additionally while it tries to keep the screen border limits this give a vague metric to how far zappers, bullets, and enemies can cause cause harm.

I do like that they're keeping the series alive, I just don't like the chanting and the art style is too colourful. Rupture farms is supposed to be depressing, it's a slave labour camp for heaven's sake. Exodus was the same, it had an awesome steampunk style but still felt industrial and dark, while being really cool. This is just a little to bright and friendly for me, so I hope soulstorm is a bit darker

This game doesn't feel as dark and gritty as the ps1 version, but it still came out better than I expected. At least they didn't fuck it up as bad as Blizzard with Diablo III.

Dunno if its just me, but i'm having an impression that all new games tend to put things quick, overwhelmed with 3D effects, lighting, booms, sounds, notes.. too much information at a time

1:21:21 this part is fucking purgatory, I've died about 100 times here, still doing it now... how in the fuck did you time that roll perfectly...
In order to get the full experience (and full appreciation) even if youve played the original before, play it shortly before you play this, so you sort of remember the scenes and all, and the layout. Then play this one. That's what I did, and so far on my first playthrough I'm loving it! It's so much easier seeing the handles sort of labeled with what type they are instead of accidentally killing someone, there's a little more hints to where everything is, the floor panels are actually a little visible, I mean it's truly new n tasty! The one area where you throw the grenade down to get the slig that you can't see, but in this version you can see him great. And they added some things that take the frustration out of some spots. Like extra levers to turn things off that you couldn't before. I think this is the ideal remake and I'm so sorry I didn't get into it when it came out.

if you like that one so much, why not stop complaining and play that one instead? I personally grew up with the ps1 version but I feel this remake definitely has it's charm. And if you, for some reason, can't see that, you're not a true Oddworld fan in my book.

Thanks for watching. I did indeed rescue all 299 Mudokons in this video. I completed it the first time with around 275-280, after missing a couple of secret areas, so I went and did it again. A majority of my knowledge of the areas is from playing Abe's Oddysee on the PS1 loads!
Underground Gaming HD Gotcha.
For me though, I was an Abe's Exoddus kid. It was the first one I played, so when I got round to playing Abe's Odyssee, I found myself alienated by the limitations. The Abe's Exoddus editions such as quicksave and the ability to talk to multiple mudokons at once seem to have passed over to this one, so I look forward to the day I can get my hands on this one.
I'm now at the Stockyards, and I gotto say, you make this game look real easy; It's always nice to see a pro at work.
I love the originals. I just wish they would come out with an entirely new game instead of a re-make. Strangers Wrath was incredible as well. How come they haven't done something new? I thought Oddworld was one of the coolest ideas where they would make different games with different characters but all on the same planet. So genius!

To be fair Luke, it wasn't exactly a high-profile release when it came out last summer exclusively for the PS4 (namely for that reason). It will probably gain a lot more publicity now as it is out (or coming out) for all the other consoles. Understandable really if you didn't know anything about it!

I thought this was a great remake, but of course not nearly hard enough and didn't go for long enough either. It was also a little too playful and light hearted - although Abe games did have lighthearted parts, it was overall quite dark and sinister. An aspect to that game that was vital in it's execution.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed it. Hope there'll be a remake of Abe's Exodus

It's a shame if youngsters never get to play the first game, so much better then any other attempt after it, it was kind blowing at the time. The music, graphics, artwork , gameplay and story all far superior.

I know this sounds weird, but I always thought that paramites were really cute. When I used to play the original Abe, I would wish that he could take one home at the end and keep it as a pet.

Eh. I find it weird how so many people are feeling such animosity towards this remake. I personally think this game is ace, just like the original. I don't feel the need to compare the 2, because honestly, playing these games feels different enough that it all just depends on what kind of game I'm in the mood for.
Sure, it's much easier than the original, but then again, alot of the challenge in the original felt really obnoxious with shit like the checkpoint system & Abe's overall stiff, grid-like movement. Sure, the game doesn't have as much of an oppressive & cruel athmosphere as the original, but then again, this feels alot more in-place with the rest of the series & the story is still just as nice. Sure, some of the design choises like the analog-sensitive movement feels a bit less refined than it should, but then again, welcome to every Oddworld game that isn't Stranger's wrath.
In-place with the rest of the story? Explain please. I'm one of the dissenters of this new format. I want to like it but cant. It's bastardized the original feel. The story is dark. Beings tryin to capitalize and kill races or species for profit. There's nothing light about this, but the game is so goofy and loses that message. Not a good choice in my opinion. For those that say they played the originals and this remake is ok, I cant understand why you would take a lighter highpitched faster paced easier game over the classics. They even changed his chant. Smh
i hated how they took away the death noise.....that was comedy GOLD, why remove that

Fans naming the game 'New n' Tasty' just highlights the tongue in cheek humour this game contains. It's kinda like The Fifth Element, it contains aspects of terrible dread, but reminds you that it's all science fiction and your simply here to have a joyride!!

I think the original (Abe`s Oddysee) is awsome, not remake. Original more depressive and have deep game atmosphere. Not DOS version - I talking about PSX version, i like best of all. And Abe`s Exoddus i like too. Remake - is good but not awsome, i think developers make this game to make a money.

I feel like this remake sort of missed the point. It lacks that bleak, gritty feel that made the original so great.

Blue, alien, naturalist nonhuman bipedals with ponytails and yellow eyes and clear Native American undertones screwed by greedy capitalists. Constant theme of taking control of another's body while your real body is defenseless. I can see it.

they made the game a bit easy, when i played the old version it was challenging, it was very difficult but it was not impossible, beating it felt really great and i never have forgotten my experience with this game.
