Make sure the slider on the end of the port replicator by the eject button is in the unlocked position before attempting to connect the laptop.

Really. Helpful video, thank you. I bought one from eBay thinking it would fit mine. However, I have the dell latitude 5540, and this is for the E5540, there is no slot underneath to attach. Your video confirmed. Ugh!
These days the eport is obsolete since you cannot connect to it via the bottom port since dell does not offer that option anymore on latitude laptops. It would have been extremely helpful to support that connection with the eport. Its a great device. Now instead of buying any laptop and fitting it with the plug displays, i have to lose money on dvi and analog plugs the eport supported but your new usb hubs do not. Lost money.
As a universal dock, am I able to connect a laptop WITHOUT the eport? (I assume usb 3 would be the connection).
my work provided me this docking station for the last 2 years and i'm here now because I still don't understand how this works or why it's necessary lol
Also I have none of those cords plugged in. All I have is the blue and black cord from the docking station into the monitor

what don't you understand? it replaces 5+ cables with one simple connection and turns a laptop in to a desktop

The only thing that drives me crazy about these docking stations/port replicators is how much desk space they take up. I'm currently trying to find a way to hide mine and get my desk space back at both work and home.
if you are with techcnology just take it out of its case the main board and set it up that way maby if where you mount it is just connecter to the ports by wires you may be able to instal one into a desk
You can buy USB C version, good for casual user and you can put under your desk with cable on top. For intensive user, nothing better than E DOCK. End after skylake cpu. Only HP offer today a dedicate port for good docking station.
Kind of a stupid question, but someone in my family just renewed monitors so I was given an older monitor with this Dell docking station. The thing is this family member works with a Dell laptop, and I have a (newer) Lenovo laptop. Would that mean that I cannot use this Dell docking station because I don't use a Dell laptop?
It’s a custom dock connector on the bottom so no.
Better than me. While I possess a Dell Laptop I didn't even know what a Docking station is. I don't know if mine fits on it and even if it does I doubt I possess the cables needed to hook it up.

Man I know this is late but I just wanna share my knowledge :D No you need to do vga on dock, and then two displayports/dvi that are on the dock. Laptop in built screen brings total to four. You need the discrete nvidia graphics chip for it to work though. Hello, how do you connect two monitors to one docking station. I have the same docking station and cords as you have shown in this video. I only have one issue It's has to do with the second last cord that you put in the docking station and the cord that is beside Laptop power cord. I. I need another input like that because I have two monitors. please help if you can.

My Dell E6540 doesn't charge anymore, it's not the charging port, it's the motherboard. Do you know if the docking station will make it power up, without battery? It would be awesome
That would require knowing your point of failure. Who knows? Is the battery dead? Some used compatible docs are $15 delivered on fleaBay if you want to give it a shot.

Almost all Dell Latitude E-series laptops have this port.
Today, only usb C bullshit dock. But you can nuy a verygood refurb latitude or precision with original dock. Dell latitude E7270 E7470 or Precision 7520 for example (with thunderbolt 3). But no Hexa core cpu.

yes is a displayport
You might have already got this answered but most monitors do not have DisplayPort. So if you don't have a place to plug it into the back of your monitor than you have to use HDMI,DVI or old fashion VGA (analog). DVI is digital like HDMI so you can buy a simple adapter to go into HDMI. You can also buy a Displayport to HDMI or DVI.

I was looking at buying a Dell replicator but was unsure if it was truly compatible with my E5570 due to that space. I dont't like things that don't fit...unless they just work perfect.
@@RemmikRotus the space is necesary for other models; because is a universal dock.
Remmik the space is there because some of us have the 9 cell battery which protrude. Most of these dells have 6 cells but they still had to take the 9 cell batteries into consideration. I got one a few days ago for $5 at a thrift store :)

if you're asking if the laptop will charge while connected to the dock via the port, the dock WILL charge the battery of the laptop as long as the dock is plugged into the wall.

1. Docking stations are a time saver in corporate environments. You dont have time to plug and unplug every single peripheral when you have to run to a meeting.
2. You could but it would be wear and tear on several ports instead of just one that is made for these types of removal and and docking several times a day.
Your assumption is incorrect. Such laptop docks allow you to display to multiple monitors, ethernet, power, mouse, and keyboard just by placing your laptop over it. Would you prefer to sit there and connect all of these things manually each time you remove or return your portable computer?

Most of the Dell laptop batteries are POS. I've had no luck with any of them, they usually go bad within a year.
