Learn from my mistakes and see exactly how to go about fitting the roof rails the right way to a CLA Mercedes-Benz. The rails shown in the video are the basic ones, although you will also see the ski rack fitted that doesn't come in the basic CLA Roof rail kit.
Any questions on any aspect of the fitting please ask away in the comments. I

thank you . I just installed my roof rack . all thanks to your video . made it so easy thanks
glad it was of use. Given practice you can get the whole thing on/off in under 2 mins.
I am getting ready to do the same. We'll watch the video as we're installing.
Your video is extremely helpful! We are buying these bars this week and seeing the steps throughout your video make it seem really simple.
Very helpful! 😊
Hi, thanks for the video. Would it block the opening and closing of sunroof if u have one? Thanks
Can you still open the panoramic sun roof?
So useful and helpful! thank you!
Will be open the panorama roof?
Hi there, I have a A200 with a sunroof and the Thule rcaks i mounted wont allow the roof to open. Do these racks allow for full use of the sunroof?
Hello does that strip come off the car itself or is it stuck on
When the feet are locked in is there suppose to be a gap below, ie they don't touch the roof.
Thank you very much mate
Hello there thanks so much for the video. I have a question do you have a link of this roof rack or maybe the name of the place where you got it from?
Thanks For This!
Great video, thanks for sharing this!
My pleasure - been using it daily for skiing this week. Very fast to get it on and off with practice
Good video.
This is a great video! It's around the snow season and I'm actually looking for exactly the same things you demonstrated in the vid. While the question is, after using the racks a little bit, do you find scratches on the roof?
I am SO careful not to let it hit the other side of the roof when putting it on! I've a CLA45 ALG in Metallic black so I am paranaoid about the paint. But yet I could see it scratching it but only if you don't support the rail which is made of aluminum e.g. doesn't weigh a lot! Not rushing is the key, take 10 seconds longer and no chance of damaging the paint. I ski daily in Winter and ZERO scratches due to the rack. I show how to set it up in the video, follow that - set the width just the once for the front and back railts (NOTE they the width of the back of the car is not the same as the front, mark then or keeo then separate to identify front and rear rails!!!)
Best roof rack ever - fitting next week to pick Xmas tree up then go skiing
Thank you for confirming this! Mine is black too, which is a zero scratch-tolerant color. My worries lie on the pedestal part on each side of the rack, it looks like they will touch the body of the car especially when you carry heavy things on the rack (such as a bike) and drive on bumpy road. From your vid, it seems then won't touch the car, there is still a very small distance left there. So what about the ski part, are they MB parts or from other brand?
Apologies for the delay in responding. Agreed black is zero scratch resistant. My doors take a lot of wear. The black plastic bits at the edges of the rack take zero weight e.g.not load bearing. They just clear the body but I don't think they'd touch it under heavy load. I've got the bike rack but not fitted it yet. The ski rack is the MB one. Note when buying it they sell two types one takes 4 skis the other takes 8 but care is needed as that's 4 skis in total or 8 skis in total not 4 or 8 pairs. So if you bought the 4 ski one thinking it's suitable for a family of three it's not. It only takes 2 pairs. Hope that makes sense. It'd be easy to buy the wrong one - get it home and find you've only a rack for two pairs of skis not 4! The rack is too tight to take skis doubled up. Hope that all makes sense. I nearly bought the wrong one. Note mine is the smaller of the 2 ski racks they sell. Apologies again for the delay - holiday season is upon us
@@ThisisRealLife I am trying to remove it but it seems to be stuck. 3/4 handles will not move to the right to unlock. Any ideas?
Great video. I just want to know after installing the roof rack are you going to be able to slide out the sunroof completely?!
Please let me know
Because my c300 has panoramic roof which i love to use it if even i have roof rack on the top.
Hi apologies for the delay I've been moving house this week. On my CLA45 you can only tilt the roof you cannot slide the sunroof back (I've the panoramic roof as well). Note though the C class may be different in this respect. You'd need to check with your Mercedes dealer
Great video! Do you know part number by any chance?
Thank you for the video. Is it just as "easy" take the roof rails off or do you just leave them on permanently? Thanks in advance.
Very easy sorry for long delay. I can remove them in under 2 mins
Thanks for the video. What is the capacity of these rails?
you'd need to check with MB I dont sell these
Great video! Can I just ask, were you able to use those rubber strips with the ski rack fitted? I have a roof box on order but I wonder if you can have the rubbing strip at the same time as the box?
+Nick Micouris Unfortunately no they can't. I missed them off to start with when filming. Then had to take the rails off, fit the straps and refix! Then when I came to put the ski rack on I had to take the rubbing straps off as the ski rack fits into the rubbing strip slots! Sometimes shooting these videos isn't easy : -)
You could cut them to fit the gap but for my purpose it was easiest just to remove them. They go in and out easily though and there's no need to remove the rack, they can just be pushed in from above. That said MUCH easier to fit with the rails off the car.
+ThisisRealLife thanks so much. Interestingly, the instructions don't even mention the strips on mine. Were they mentioned in yours? How did you find out you needed to cut them? Your instructions were so much better than those included by Mercedes! 👍
+Nick Micouris Alas I couldn't say without looking at them. I'm not sure if I still have them or not, if I get 5 mins tomorrow I will check. Glad the video was of use. It should certainly speed up the initial fitting. The instructions weren't clear in some cases, and I had to do a few retakes, and highlight the 'Don't do this' bits! The red lever thingy in the instructions left a lot to be desired, but's essential to securing them. I've got the bike rack, which I'm going to fit this week. I used the ski rack a lot over winter and it was very good and not at all noisy. Should you get a ski rack note that they do two. I have the basic one which holds four skis (NOT 4 pairs!), the premium one holds eight skis (e.g. 4 pairs!).
I can now put the thing on/off in well under a minute.
Any idea if you can fit a Thule/Yakama/ect bike rack on the Mercedes roof rack? In other words, is the MB roof rack compatible with accessory carriers from other manufactures?
+Jjeager686 Thanks for the question. You'd really need to check with a MB dealer service department. I'm afraid I've no idea. I bought the MB bike rack to go with this. My thought is I very much doubt it will be compatible as this would stop them selling their own bike racks. On the other hand putting the question the other way around it's more likely that Thule etc have made one that is compatible with it, hope that makes sense. I'd take the bottom part of your rack in to the dealer service department and ask that question. The MB rack is very good though the 'system' locks that rack on hard and fast. I can now put it on or off in 30 seconds.
Hei
I have the same , what is the maximum weight this roof rack can take?
you need to contact MB
Where can I buy it?
MB dealer only
How many inches does it add to height?
(I have a small garage)
I am trying to remove it but it seems to be stuck. 3/4 handles will not move to the right to unlock. Any ideas?
Turns out you have to push down the vertical part of the handle and not the red part of the handle.
Pushing the red handle even further down makes the handle go up, while it needs to be pushed down to be released.
So simple, but it got me for a couple of hours. Maybe someone else deals with same issue in the future 😀
question ? how to you ad the bike accessory?
I've only actually just fitted mine, although I've had it 2 years! It slides in to the rails from the ends then tightens down with plastic screws. I would say get someone to help when fitting it or stand on some steps. I've not got a video of it.
