Meat and Potatoes. Few things I love more than watching a solid fisherman do their thing. You're making me want to carpetbag down from LA before the summer wraps up.

Thanks AP, I'm glad you find the videos useful. Lots of the most important stuff in the videos is stuff that I don't talk about but show in the edit. Cheers!
I mean, that's cool people get on the water but I would think the skiers would want to fish more similarly to a kayak and less like a skiff. Running and gunning all over the place is noisy and just annoying hahaha
Always a pleasure Chris. My buddy and I actually went out there this last Thursday and didn't get any yellows. We came down from LA so really not sure where to fish down there. Think you wanna show couple guys around lol
Hi Cal, yes for sure. I realized that I didn't cover my rig at all in this video... my bad. I am running a 3 way swivel rig, which is essentially just the same as a dropper loop. I tie my 65# powerpro mainline to the swivel, I was using 40# mono for the "leader" line to 4/0 ringed circle hook, and 30# mono to the 8oz torpedo sinker. My bait was a large, live greenback mackerel. This rig I use to fish the bottom near the kelp, or if I'm targeting "light biters" such as halibut. Thanks for watching!
Chris Blevins thanks for the reply. Wouldn’t you have less chance of breaking off with a standard dropper loop of 30# mono? Two knots versus the four with a three way swivel. Or are you more concerned with line twisting?
Nice fish Chris. Awesome video as always. You using 40# leader even with the live bait to get the fish up in the boat within 5 min. The yellows dont seem to be line shy with the 40#?
Ya this was on 40# mono leader on the three way swivel. I will hardly ever drop down to thirty unless I have suuuuuper clear water, or if I am targeting halibut. I don't know about how line shy they are, but it goes back to my philosophy about catching big fish. I am trying to land the biggest fish out there. If that means I get less bites, so-be-it. Would you rather catch three small yellows, on get broke off or chewed through on the big ones? Or get less small bites, but be able to land the 70# white seabass when it decides to bite? I sacrifice bites to ensure I have the firepower to land whatever I can hook into. It's funny how that works. I have friends who are more in the "light line, more bites" camp. They get busted off by big stuff all the time, then they will make excuses like "it was a black" or "probably a shark". I guarantee they are losing the biggest trophy bites they have gotten. Thanks for watching Graham!
You like the dropper loop using the spider hitch vs. the sinker off the main line with a swivel so when the fish takes the bait they don't feel the resistance of the weight ? Your thoughts ?
Awesome video thanks for sharing , i noticed your dropper loop rig that the loop was way upper than the sinker , what is the your dropper loop's distance from the bottom ?
Thanks for taking the time to make all these videos. Great info. When you're fishing the dropper loop do you have the lead actually bouncing and dragging the bottom or do you pick it up a few turns? Thanks
Hey Chris! I just bought a 12.5 ft inflatable boat with 9.5 hp evenrude 3 days ago and I cannot wait to take her out to La Jolla!! When u were coming in at the end I saw a boat on the beach?? Is it legal to launch right there and do you see boats doing that often?? I was under the impression that it is illegal but if not I’m doing that ASAP!!! Thanks again for an awesome vid
Great videos, any tips on rigging for greenbacks? Spanish macs were everywhere over the weekend. Seems like they're not as hardy for dropper or flylining
Don't be shy about using Spanish. Some days that's all you can find. I'm one of those that prefers Greenbacks also because they are hardier and stronger swimmers, but the reality is that in the last 7 year, all the Yellowtail I've caught the split between which mac I was using is almost 50/50.
Greenbacks been tough to find lately, but in general I will find the GB in deeper water than spanish. Also a larger sibiki may help. Another thing thing you can do is try a megabait or similar jig sometimes the big greenies will eat the jig better than the sibiki.
Yo nice vids , so do you find that when you are fishing a dropper loop do yellows run at all or just slurp it down and pull? Also are you ever drifting w free spool / alarm on ?
Nice man, me and my son were out there on Saturday morning we caught the biggest sardine I’ve ever seen hooked it on the Carolina rig and got a nice yellow! I knew it was a lucky bait. Haha good vid man.
