Probably already been mentioned but I'll say it again anyway cause it's just so impressive. The entire "Inside" special was made by Bo alone, in his house. He did all the music, all the arrangements, all the effects, all the filming, everything all while alone in his house during quarantine.
Why do people say this like it's somehow unbelievable or special? Yes the music is impressive, but the "effects" and "filming" is very amateur and obviously done by him lmao. This isn't a flex.
Bo's trademark style is always mixing deep-cuts with comedy. He gets you hooked in with some light humor and then tears your guts out. Every time. Man is a genius.
I see it more as how overwhelming the internet has become. He slows it down when talking about the beginning of the internet to represent how simple it was, and then the speed when he’s talking about the internet now represents how stimulating and overwhelming it is.
honestly, Bo was more Lyrically Witt but he mentioned in an interview once that those "video's at the time were too fast pace for people to enjoy the double and triple entendres." due starting youtube and comedy at the golden age of the internet he found witty lyrics wasn't the best at the time and leaned alot more into the comical side of his Witt. I find alot of his old stuff better and more complex.
His latest Netflix special, Inside, is full of social commentary and wry observation about the entertainment industry and his place in it. Welcome to the Internet is part of that. His deepest one is "That Funny Feeling" but it takes more than one listen to make sense of it. Even Knox didn't catch it all in one listen. I'd love to hear your reactions to it after 4 or 5 listens and some thought.
@@jasonbuckley4118 His older stuff is so freaking clever. Not that the newer stuff isn't - Inside is one of my favorite pieces of media ever. But the doubles and triple entendres were insane. I started following him maybe 2007-2008 in middle school, and was blown away with the lyrical content. I've been able to continue listening to the songs and find little new things still to this day. Just why I love Bo so much.
Nice! Bo’s had one HELL of an artistic arch. Blew up way back in the mid 2000’s when TH-cam was still in its infancy and became one of the first people to turn “going viral” into an actual career. Youngest comedian to ever sign a record deal with Comedy Central, youngest comedian to get a full length special, so on and so forth. His early stuff is a bit hit or miss…a lot of it didn’t age very well but he was also a literal teenager when he wrote it so that tracks. Recommendations in no particular order: -Art is Dead -How the World Works -Repeat Stuff (music video version) -From Gods Perspective -Comedy -Country Song -Left Brain, Right Brain -Lower Your Expectations And a whole slew of others. A lot of folks are going to recommend “Kanye Rant” and “All Eyes on Me” but I gotta ask that if you DO decide to check out more of his work, hold off on those 2. They’re far and away some of his best work, but you’ve gotta get your feet wet first. There’s a lot of very meta context within them and without that context, they just don’t land how they should. Excited for more Bo!!! Cheers
The whole Inside special is an absolute masterpiece. Its a haunting reminder of the struggles of lockdown, anxiety, social hypocrisy. And you would absolutely love the production of it.
He did this special during the pandemic as a social commentary on isolation. The entire thing is performance art pieces of him gradually going mad. It's brilliant.
Bo's last live performance was his Kanye West rant, he had a panic attack live on stage, during that performance. He then became secluded and staid "Inside". He worked on his mental health and was ready to perform again but then 'covid' occurred. He was forced at that point to "stay inside". Every Bo song IMO is worth listening to, and I for one am here for it.. Go Bo.
Yes! Do more Bo Burnham, "Art is Dead" is one of the realest ones. It discusses internal battles of artists and entertainers. Pretty deep and touching.
Inside isn't just entertainment, it's pure art. What he did sitting in his apartment is better than a lot of other similar projects with dozens if not hundreds of people involved. Bo is a genius.
The best wat I've ever heard Bo Burnham described: He's a MASTER of getting you to laugh at someone or something, and then making you feel uncomfortable for doing so. "Lower your Expectations", "White Woman's Instagram", "All Eyes on Me", "How the World Works", and "Art is dead" are some of my all-time favorites from him and definitely worth taking a look at. Honestly all of Inside is absolute gold, and the actual film on Netflix adds a lot to the songs and really puts his creativity on display. His older stuff is really hit-and-miss: he did a lot of edgy 2010s shock humor that is pretty cringey in retrospect, but there's some stuff in there that's just fun and goofy, and some that still has that same poignant introspection blended with his sense of humor.
Renagade here!!!! 😊 "3.14 Apple Pi" is where I started. He has 5 or 6 really funny ones back around 2017. Then his newish stuff is great. The Tim Minchin comparison is spot on!!!
I first encountered Bo YEARS ago and just figured he was a Yankee knock-off Tim Minchin...but wow, if he ever was that he sure isn't now. He is BO BURNHAM, his own man, his own musical comedic entity. Love him!
I believe you must have previously reacted to Bo's parody of a "Kanye rant," which was recorded pre-pandemic. His album Inside, which Welcome To The Internet is a part of, was recorded during the pandemic completely by him "inside" his room on his own since he couldn't go to a recording studio or have outside help. Truly brilliant and creative, which pretty much sums up everything I've seen from him. It was through watching his TH-cam material that I discovered Tim Minchin through other commenters recommending Tim. I later found out that Bo credits Tim as one of his inspirations for getting in to musical comedy, and Tim has praised Bo as well for his creative genius. The reason I like both Bo and Tim is they can go deep, be funny or do both at the same time.
He made this during the COVID lockdown and it was like watching a lonely man go mad while not being able to look away from his entertaining and insightful comedy. You feel bad for him while watching it, yet you cannot look away. He's amazing and should be protected at all cost. Intelligent, funny, musical genius. Love this guy. This is my favorite work of his.
The thing about his special "Inside" is the fact he did everything himself in his own home. Due to mental health issues he had quit performing for a while. The problem was right when he was ready to make his comeback, COVID hit. So he made inside from the confines of his own home he performed, filmed edited, directed, all the way down to the lighting himself.
Just like when you found Weird Al .. welcome to a new world. Bo is amazing and much deeper than most people think. Watch out the early stuff though ... he comes very close to crossing the line.. close
I would honestly recommend the Netflix special this song came from. It is hands down one of the most interesting pieces of cinema and absolutely worth the watch, on camera for a reaction or just in private. I would be really surprised if you didn't walking away really enjoying it and also questioning everything you know in the world lol Its a comedy special but it's very different. It was during covid and so he essentially locked himself into his inlaw suite for a little over a year during the days and just recorded. It's funny but it talks about a lot of very REAL topics all while you essentially watch this man spiral into depression from it all and COVID and its terrifying, sad, beautiful, funny... Seriously a masterpiece and I don't say that lightly.
im bo yo and bo fo sho and 3.14 apple pi are the best place to start! hilariously funny raps songs that actually have bars and he did them when he was like 16 years old. i wish Bo did more rap style like he started with, ive been following him since the beginning almost 20 years now. he's still amazing i just wish he went back to his roots more often. he was such a good rapper he just rapped about funny stuff but it was still BARZ!
You just FROZE! I mean, probably all of us froze the first time we heard that bit...like WHAT THE WHAT??! But since this IS a reaction channel...tooo funny!
I have always heard this song from the visuals of the devil being a traveling salesman singing in an old vaudeville style on the vises and temptations of the internet. He takes the things able to be used for good and twists them into sinful addictions, temptations and pulls the worst out of people.
I would say one of the more hard hitting ones for me would be "Can't Handle This: Kanye Rant." Definitely one of his best pieces. It mixes comedy with deep topics so smoothly and its perfect
Bo is one of TH-cam original Golden Boys from way back when he was still just a teenager in his parents' house, recording videos in his bedroom. You should check out his videos from back then. My favorite is "Rehab for Fictional Characters" next is "Welcome to TH-cam" and then "New Math"
I like Bo's older stuff. I feel he was little more honest at the beginning. You should check out "Repeat Stuff". As a music guy I feel like you might appreciate the lyrics. I also think "Rehab Center for Fictional Characters" is hilarious. Someone else to check out is Jeff Dunham.
this is from "inside". the show before it was called "outside". outside ends with him walking out the door. inside starts with him walking in the door from outside. he was having major anxiety issues and stopped doing live. i think they one you describe as having watched was "Cant handle this", (which i didnt care for) but was about performance anxiety and expectations and not feeling he lives up to them; he basically tells the crowd he feels like a fake and they cheer him for it. surreal. "Im bo yo", "repeat suff" (live first, then music video), "oh bo" music video, "words, words, words", "art is dead" are some of the ones I would recomend. you can see his evolution from younger silly to older serious. bo has inspiration from Tim Minchen, but Bo evolved more toward societal commentary, while starting with teenager shock toilet humor, while Tim tends more toward religion and just kind of random observations
Comedy music suggestion - Tom Lehrer - you can't go very wrong - it is all quirky and fun - but Lobachevsky, I Hold Your Hand In Mine, and Poisoning Pigeons In The Park are ones that spring immediately to mind.
Man i remember stumbling across "I'm Bo Yo" way back in the early 2000s and thinking it was the funniest thing ever. He's only gotten better with time.
I don't know if it was clear, but I find fascinating that Bo in this song doesn't look like he's the one talking, but more like a machine trying to convince you to use the internet, simulating the sensory overload in the song like the catchy rhythm and stuffs like that...
And the year after we get Bo singing "Can I interest you in everything all of the time" we get the movie "Everything Everywhere All At Once" with some overlapping themes
3:04 He's more talented than that. He produces his stuff as well. This whole special was filmed during COVID so he filmed it, produced it, edited everything himself.
In this particular instance, he's even more than a musician. He did this during Covid stay-at-home protocols, so he was doing the filming, a lot of the editing, etc.
Every song on "Inside" was recorded and filmed in the same room during the Covid lockdown. Just with different lighting and set decoration, which he all did by himself.
Literally all bangers. If you go back and watch his specials in order it's a really sad story of how fame doesn't solve anything. And halfway through he wrote a TV show that's essentially about how chasing fame makes you miss out on life and from them on the specials got darker and darker as he became disillusioned with fame
Can’t say I’d know what channel you’d put it on but Tom Cardy Tom Cardy please. He’s a comedy musician just like Bo. Makes really good comedy songs, and if you don’t laugh out loud, the songs themselves are bangers in their own right. I think you’d like his stuff a lot. My recommendation is either his video “Mixed Messages” or “Red Flags” (has both a live and animated version, your pick) Mixed messages was my first Cardy video, following ever since.
He's had a great series of tv specials on stage back when he was just barely 20 or so, and he'll tell jokes and other witty punchlines and satyrical set pieces while playing a series of instruments like piano and guitar among others. This series he did was during the pandemic, filmed in his own house studio, and sent for Netflix, hence not live on stage.
the internet is like the ocean, and I'm gonna rip a quote from one of Bricky's Warhammer lore videos (you should watch them, that universe is batshit in the best way). It isn't inherently good or evil, it just exists. There are things in the ocean that will FUCK YOU UP, things that will make you regret ever even considering dipping a toe in. Then there are other things that bolster your faith in humanity, things that make you proud to be human. It's all a matter of where you decide to dive in
Do his old "Kanye rant" then "all eyes on me" 5 years later after his break. And for some more fun, his very old rap "I`m Bo Yo" he might be the OG you tube rapper.
A couple of days late, but still.. One thing I am picking up on is this - During the slower melodic bridge he talks about the year 1999, a 2yr old kid using Mommy's iPad and getting used to technology. The he switches to "now look at you - unstoppable, watchable.. you time is now, your inside's out..." To me, he's referring to all the "influencers" in their mid-20's. And their "inside's out", not in a gross gory way, but - they share their private life, private thoughts with the world, all the things we normally keep personal (inside) are on public display (out).. and this blurring of private vs public is kind of scary. And, at least to me, not a healthy thing.
Yes. This is art, this is deep. One of his best works. All of the "Inside" is simply amazing. I'd highly recommend "How the world works" from "Inside" next. I have a feeling you'd appreciate it the way it should be appreciated. Knox has done a LOT of reactions to Bo, he absolutely loves him so there's a BIG recommendation!
Bo is a genius. He also has the weaknesses of genius in that he became a shut in. The Inside album was recorded in his house because he no longer leaves his house.
His Netflix "Inside" special, or whatever we want to call it, is one of the best works of art of our lifetime. You missed it, which means you still get to watch it for the first time, which means we're all jealous. Congrats.
if you get into bo you should watch the specials in full and break em up cuz jokes and songs build over the set. its an entire performance and songs aren’t meant to be clipped out of context
Probably already been mentioned but I'll say it again anyway cause it's just so impressive. The entire "Inside" special was made by Bo alone, in his house. He did all the music, all the arrangements, all the effects, all the filming, everything all while alone in his house during quarantine.
I have a feeling that in the future, Gen Alpha and later will watch "Inside" in class when they are learning about the 2020 pandemic.
VERY worth watching
@@Yryahii that quarantine special was gold
Yea, you literally see him take a remote every now and then to change the lighting.
I love how it slowly gets faster and faster simulating anxiety.
I see it more as how overwhelming the internet has become. He slows it down when talking about the beginning of the internet to represent how simple it was, and then the speed when he’s talking about the internet now represents how stimulating and overwhelming it is.
He's more shock value the further back you go; as he aged, he upped his brilliant social commentary
honestly, Bo was more Lyrically Witt

you should watch the special straight through. The impact of each song is greater as they build on one another and you see his character change.
I would say one of the more hard hitting ones for me would be "Can't Handle This: Kanye Rant." Definitely one of his best pieces. It mixes comedy with deep topics so smoothly and its perfect
All eyes on me or Comedy next. I love everything he produced. Keep up the good work.
Love your content bro! Nice to be not alone in being old.

The kanye rant is absolutely GOLD
Bo Burnham - All eyes on me 🔥
Pegasus: He was like performing before an audience…
All of Us: YEAH HE DOESNT DO THAT ANYMORE. Sorry. Sorry, it’s uh. A whole thing.
Bo is talking about the internet BEFORE the censorship was thrown on us
2020 was the light censorship era. The 90s and 00's was the pre-censorship era.
Bo is also a kickass rapper, and an O.G. TH-camr. He's been here since the beginning, and only getting better.
I believe this is from “Inside”, his pandemic album, all made, well, inside.
You have no idea how amazing this guy is until you watch Inside
His Netflix "Inside" special, or whatever we want to call it, is one of the best works of art of our lifetime. You missed it, which means you still get to watch it for the first time, which means we're all jealous. Congrats.
Please more Bo!!!
if you get into bo you should watch the specials in full and break em up cuz jokes and songs build over the set. its an entire performance and songs aren’t meant to be clipped out of context
By all means do the Bo Kanye Rant that is next level ..
bo started really young and you could see his talent from the beginning as a teen on youtube
I really hope you go down this rabbit hole. Like the Kanye rant and his earlier stuff.
