Some posts I've read suggest golf not possible for a year. You've been a year and wondering what your pain is, if any, and if you've been able to return to all activities.
Thank you for making this video, currently dealing with two fractured ribs. It’s been 3 weeks and I decided give running a shot again and was discouraged seeing how bad it still felt. But watching your video gives me more perspective, thanks again and hope your recovery goes smoothly.
Sorry to hear about your fractured ribs Jose. I remember how uncomfortable that was, especially when trying to sleep. Good luck with your recovery. I'm glad my video helped.
i had a horrible cough for 12 weeks and it’s still not quite gone. during this time, i ripped my cartilage of my rib cage in multiple places. my mental health is falling as im not getting to work out nearly as much. i normally do core and ab based workouts as well so im so thankful for this video.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your struggles Becca. I hope you make a full recovery soon. And thank you for the kind words, I'm glad the video helped. Sage
I just broke 6 ribs ,L5 and right clavicle also punctured right lung. Its been 14 days since I hurt myself and I am starting to feel better pain wise. Sleeping was the most difficult process and I finally am able to sleep almost the whole night. I did this on my mountain bike. Thanks for making the video!

Yikes! That sounds terrible Dan, but I'm glad that you are on the mend. Keep those positive vibes going and you'll be back at it in no time. Good luck, Sage.
@@drdanthelizzyman This was over 3 years ago for me, but my memory is, I was back on my mountain bike by week 8. However, confidence is something I continue to struggle with even to this day.
Great video man, fractured a rib falling on the water surface and I am really angry too because I was in a good training streak. This helps me to focus on what I thought would be best: let pain be your guide.
@phillgraaf how are you now? I biffed on my skateboard, like 3 days ago.. not sure I broke anything, just sore.. gonna try running today to see how I feel
4 weeks in after breaking 2 ribs in a bike crash. Had done around three 4km walks since, the first one just a week after. Now, tonight I'll sneak out for a short slow jog and see how it goes. Glad I came across your video, man.
Right on. I'm sorry to hear about your injury but it sounds like you are on the road to recovery (no pun intended, lol). Listen to your body and take it slow. You got this!
Really appreciate your video! I've felt the same way coming out of my rib fracture (downhill mountain biking crash, landed on my head and shoulder, fractured second rib, minor concussion, and just a sprained wrist). I've built my life around moving my body and a lot of my meaning comes from that. Recovering from this has been as much mental as physical. Ugh, getting there. Out 4 weeks and still feeling flare ups. Ready to get back into the triathlon training and all the exercise in the sunshine. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!
I'm sorry to hear about your injury Trisha. It's sound like you are pretty fit if you were training for a triathlon. That baseline fitness and your healthy lifestyle will serve you well as you recover. Stick with it and listen to your body. You got this!! I'm here if you have any questions. Good luck.
I started training hard for a few months, eating well, running, and Thai boxing. I felt amazing. But then broke a rib in sparring. I am 3 weeks into the recovery; being down and eating constantly is a real thing; going from fit to being injured so much is such a shock. I am hoping to get out running in a few days to get me back in a good mindset, but I am told it might be 4-5 weeks before I can spar again, which sucks.
I'm so sorry to read this. I hope you get a quick and full recovery. I know you want to spar, but def give the ribs the time they need to heal. You will be back at it before you know it. Good luck.
Hi, this is really helpful. I crashed in a crit almost 2 weeks ago and landed on my ribs; not broken but bruised them bad. Before the race I was training about 350-400 miles a week, now just 25 miles at moderate speeds is difficult and painful. This vid helps put things in perspective; thank you!
I really relate to this as well! I was really ready to begin serious training for this cycling season, but crashed mtn biking and am totally out of commission. This was after a winter of Covid and another bad illness (and an ankle sprain). I've really learned the art of patience, as the alternative is depression and rage.
Thanks Marvin. This was the worst injury I have ever sustained. Kinda changed my outlook on a lot of things. Hopefully 2021 will be better and I can get back to form.
@@TrailSage I'm sure you will my friend. Just to be able to come back strong despite of the injuries just shows a lot about your patience and determination. 2021 is your year!
The part when you mention how uncomfortable a broken rib is versus a sharp pain, that’s EXACTLY what it is for me!!!! Two days ago, at 49, i sparred with a good professional!!! My third time apart in 21 years. Was doing well until that shit that broke my 9 & 10 rib. Didn’t know at that moment. Sparred one more round after!!!! The following morning, i did a 6 mile job. It wasn’t as fast as usual!!!! This morning, did a 4 mile jog!!!! Same thing!!!! No sharp pain!!!! Just uncomfortable!!!! Came from the doctor earlier today!!!! No boxing 🥊 for five weeks minimum!!!! UGHHHH 🤦🏾♂️!!!! Oh well!!!! It’s a battle wound!!!! GREAT lesson for me!!!! First time for me!!!!
Ugh that sucks Bryon, but I am glad you caught it early. Bummer you can't spar for a while but a least you can still get in some workouts if you don't mind the pain.
Bro I literally did the same thing.. 3 weeks ago I took a big shot sparring and it took my breathe away.... Did another 2 rounds but had to pull out as I couldnt even throw my jab... Next day was painful af, took a week off and it felt good so went back to the gym and did bag work and running for 2 weeks... Felt OK... Last night I coughed drinking some water and fucked them up again.. Now I'm worse pain than when it first started. So I guess i have to rest properly... Gutted was on such a role with my training and had my next fight in 3 weeks but looks like I'm gunna have to pull it.... I feel your pain bro, literally.. Boxing is love. Boxing is life.. Hope you heal quick
Same thing - recurring rib injury from sparring and I’m supposed to have a fight in 6 weeks. I ran last night and I felt ok. But this morning I can’t put my clothes on without pain. I’m also cutting right now so not having training while cutting weight is going to suck.
got a few broken ribs right now, hopefully at the tail end of the injury tho... havent worked out in a few weeks and yeah i can relate to the feeling down and depressed part... everyday i try to ease back into it and so far so good... theres not too many videos on this topic and this one was done very well, thanks for the encouragement.
Sorry to hear this, but I am glad you are on the road to recovery. Once the discomfort goes away and you can begin to do things again it gets better. Keep your mental game in check as much as possible. Stay well.
@@TrailSage i got one fractured rib because i had an accident on motorcycle just waiting for it to heal thank the lord just road rash an one cracked rib god is good an speedy recovery to everyone
Thanks for this video. I got into a motorcycle accident four days ago and broke five ribs. Even though my exercise routines has been completely in the dumps, I am looking for ways to improve my healing, recover lung capacity, etc. This really gives me ideas for discussions with my doctor. And I will be getting back on the bike -- both motorized and road.
That sucks Brian, glad you are ok otherwise. Def consult your doctor and listen to your body. You will be back riding before you know it. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you, can easily relate to the anger, just one broken rib, 5 weeks in and still struggling, have had moments thinking the chest pain is a heart attack, but if I compare myself to where I was I can see the little improvements. Sleeping however is a whole other story😧
Sorry to hear about the broken rib but I'm glad you are starting to see improvements. And yes, I remember trying to sleep, lol. Sending healing vibes your way. Thank you for reaching out. Sage
thanks for your post... very timely. Just broke ribs falling off my Onewheel. Was getting into the routine of running and Onewheeling ea day. Definitely feeling the need to train harder once I can. On week one right now. Finally, our gyms are opening up soon too. Thanks again
Ugh that suck Phil, I'm sry to hear about the broken rib. Listen to your body, and when it's time, come back strong. I am glad the gyms are opening up too. Pulling for you brotha
You are my inspiration, after my little heavy workout with tyre, not that heavy just 2 days , I got chest pain and was diagnosed with chest pain with swollen ribs, now getting recovery slowly ,will get back to normal, was in depression , but one should listen to our body and tune it in our limits🤗😍 I can run normally in future days🙏 thanks for posting this video 😊

While I am losing my weight, I had caught such a bad cold and were broken my 8th rib due to coughing. It has been 4weeks now. And I am going to run a full marathon upcoming Sunday. I hope I could finish the race. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I injured my ribs by getting kneed during sparring in Mui Tai. I was just getting into having a consistent workout routine of lifting weights and training. I completely understand how it can feel depressing and degrading not being able to workout consistently especially with summer around the corner. But hey, we once we come back it’ll be better than ever.
I just had almost the exact same thing happen. Got kneed by my nephew actually just light sparing after being out of action due to a Rheumatoid Auto Immune disorder. I was just starting to feel better after changing my diet and at 40 I probably shouldn't have been messing around with somebody who's 22 and built like a brick shit house. It was more or less just slap fighting but when he threw up the knee I was moving forward and walked right into it which made it a lot worse. Wondering how long it took you to heal because I'm on day 8 right now and it feels worse than it did three or four days ago.
@@acktionjackson666 hi. How did your recovery go? I’ma couple of days into getting 2 fractured ribs following sparring. Really frustrated about the prospect of a long recovery. Any insight into what to expect would be very much appreciated.
I’m glad you’re being smart with your recovery & training, those are some major injuries. I too have been there, L1 fracture 5yrs ago, crashed on a trail I’ve prob ridden 500 times, just clipped a tree, dumb mistake! also fractured some ribs long ago. Good to see you getting some training in, be patient & stay safe!
I really appreciate your video. I suffered a pretty horrible rib injury a few weeks ago, and it was the worst pain I've ever experienced, after a life of sports injuries (including two big concussions). The worst part of all is the direct impact from my mtn. bike bars hit ribs 2 and 3, and my heart went crazy. I think it was the adrenaline and the pain--it checked out as not causing a bleed or a bruise to it, but damn it was scary. The only thing I can currently do is walk. It's so depressing as I had a couple of illnesses that took me out of commission this winter and an ankle sprain from trail running. I thought I was in the clear. And then this slow moving mtn. bike crash happened..... I wish there were more videos out there on rib injuries. They are so painful and hard to manage.
I'm sorry to hear about all the setbacks and injuries. I'm glad you found my video helpful and I hope you get a full recovery. It's been years since this injury for me and I'm proud to say I have made a complete comeback (well except for my confidence, lol). Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have 2 non-displaced fractures in a single rib - injured 6 months ago during boxing sparring. I continued training in boxing and jujitsu after my injury as initially I assumed it was just a soft tissue injury. I wish there was a better guide than "let pain be your guide" because my rib doesn't seem to hurt during training much - even the initial injury - but the evening after or next day I feel it. Apparently I have been too active to allow it to heal over the last 6 months. Now I've had a CT scan and know exactly what the injury is I have been told to take a miniuum of 6 weeks off any exerise that involves too much rib movement - so no jujitsu or boxing - I am hoping I can still run ... my rib injury is at the back and side so my breathing has never been impacted. I realise that's lucky but I wish my rib would communicate a little more so I could feel confident in knowing how little / much to train without having to stop everything!
Hey Sharla, I can't believe you were training jujitsu and boxing on a broken rib, you must have a great tolerance for pain. I am glad you got it properly diagnosed so now you can begin the process of healing. I know 6 weeks sucks, but you should be able to run by week 4. But don't push it too hard, and give your body the time it needs to heal completely. Good luck. Sage
Thanks Sage. It Is realistic to expect 4 weeks down time for proper healing. I think I injured the rib in an area less painful and they are non-displaced fractures which are probably less severe than yours. The time off without any exercise to release the stress of the day is going to hurt more! It is nice to see you have survived the journey so I will try to remain positive!
On the 16th January this year (2021), I broke or fractured 13 bones including 9 ribs in a horse riding accident, and had a punctured lung and a dislocated hip as well! My bones are healed, but I still have nerve pain (damage?) I'm about 90% better, but some days still feel completely wiped out! Other days, I'm fine, but then the pain kicks in again and I have to lie down. Prior to my accident I was a very fit person. Rehab has definitely been a challenge, but I'm getting there...
So sorry to hear about your accident. Have you looked into an Air Vest? I recently broke 6 ribs coming off my horse. Looking to purchase a Hit Air vest
Great to hear you let yourself be flexible with the training, it's so important to listen to your body. I hope you heal up soon & get back to full fitness 👍🏃
Right on! That is a great attitude to have not just for Strava but for life in general. If you are going through some rib injuries I hope you feel up fast. Sage
I'm sorry to hear you are struggling Ruchik. Ribs take a long time to fully heal. It took me 8 weeks to feel completely healed, but I was pretty active throughout my recovery process. Everyone's body is different so make sure you listen to what yours is telling you. Get plenty of rest and eat healthy. When you are able, try to move around. It will be uncomfortable, but it's important to get the body moving. Just don't over do it, and start slow. Good luck. Sage
Solid video. I just broke 3 ribs myself and I'm going stir crazy. Been looking for videos and info on how to slowly get back into regular workouts. My primary routine currently consists of calisthenics and other bodyweight movements. Hoping to try some light isometrics holds soon, but I'm still only in week 1 so I'm afraid of pushing too hard, too soon. Great video, really dig your conversational style and advice!
I'm sorry to hear about your injury Brett. Give yourself ample time before you start anything strenuous. Your body will let you know when you are ready. Good luck with the recovery.
I broke 5 ribs in feb 2021 and had a partial lung collapse....I was running 9 mi per day prior to injury and so I had to stop running and working out for 6 weeks ....I didn’t want to repuncture my lungs...I ended up doing elliptical in week2

Yes. The first time I broke my wrist was a non union in my scaphoid. Required surgery and a screw to set it. I’m sorry to hear about your injury Jo, good luck in your comeback.
Fractured my right anterolateral 9th rib Sunday night, doctor confirmed it on Tuesday. That Tuesday night I said fk that, I’m gonna go by feeling. I went the gym the next day, to test my pain tolerance. So I went through my usual 15 minute warmup before I start any workout. 1 minute plank👍 30 second side plank both sides👍 10 front/back leg swings👍 10 side leg swings👍 20- 12kg kettlebell swings👍 10- single leg glute raises👍 Throughout the workout I had pain on my right side, but I just adjusted my body every time to find a comfortable position. I actually felt good when I was done. So I said fk it again, let’s go through the whole process a second time. 💥 boom I finished it again, plus I added a 1 minute wall stand. I actually felt much better than I did on Monday & Tuesday when I slept in bed all day. Even the walk to my car, the drive to the gym, the walk to the gym was uncomfortable. Just gotta adjust your body, whenever you fell the pain. Just get out there and see how far you can push it without hurting yourself. I feel much better than when I was babying my injury all day.
Nice Aaron. Sorry to hear about your injury but I'm glad you found a way to deal with it. Take it easy where you can and continue listening to your body. You don't want to prevent a full recovery or make it worse. Good luck.
I thought it took about 6 weeks for bones to mend and you would have to be reasonably careful until then, didn't expect that you would be running after 3 weeks.
Hey John, I was a bit surprised as well, but as I understand it, there is not much they can do for rib injuries. The doctors just said it will be uncomfortable and not to take any hits to the rib area while recovering.
How you managed to do it? I’m a lifter.. I’m worry to squat bench and deadlift and ohp. Doctor recommend to off gym.. but you know…I sat at home for a week… depressed and lose momentum…I know what to do if I’m in the gym

Can u share the timeline on when did u get back on training after u injury and how long it take to get back 100%. I broke my collarbone n fracture rib a week ago did the surgery on the collarbone, hoping on the trainer 3 time a week 1-2hr each time. But do feel more pain on the ribs or lung after the day of training.
Hey Eric, I'm sry to hear about your injury. I stayed away from any training for 3 weeks and started on the trainer in week 4. It took me about 6 weeks to fully recover and get back to normal training. If you are feeling pain a day after training in your ribs you may want to give yourself some more time to heal. Being uncomfortable during training is one thing, feeling pain a day after is another story. Give your body plenty of rest.

11 of the 14 ribs that connect to my sternum and 2 false ribs dislocate roughly 100 or more times put together, every day for the past 7 years. They also re-fracture frequently, and I have 5 non-union fractures on my sides. Doctors say none of this will heal and am now unable to work. Hey Eric. No, I have not had any lingering issues with my ribs or back. After 6 weeks I was good-to-go, of course my fitness level coming back was a whole different issue, lol. Thanks for watching man.
Do not workout with a bruised rib. The pain will come back 10 times worse. no working out for a couple of weeks is the best advice. (I worked through the pain and had to pause workout for a month)
Sorry you experienced so much pain Phil. Maybe bruised ribs are worse than broken ones? Sometimes muscle and ligament damage takes longer to heal. I was able to workout on two broken ribs with only minor discomfort after a few weeks. Thanks for sharing your feedback

If you go on a mostly meat based diet you won't crave junk food either and you'll get much more bioavailable protein and vitamins that your body is going to need to heal. So yeah going on a vegan diet with a broken rib is probably one of the dumbest things you can possibly do.
Fuck that. I broke my ribs in mma, and after less than a full week at home I feel AWFUL. It was only a month in that I FINALLY started to get consistent because I was addicted. Yikes! That sounds terrible Dan, but I'm glad that you are on the mend. Keep those positive vibes going and you'll be back at it in no time. Good luck, Sage.
Thanks @TrailSage , it was good to listen to some familiar experiences... how long was it before you felt "fully recovered"?

Great video man, fractured a rib falling on the water surface and I am really angry too because I was in a good training streak.

@@stevenrobert6992 hey my friend, it took me a couple of weeks but I am back to normal, can't feel anything of it anymore.
Thank you so much for doing this video!!!
You're welcome Zenia
Bummed to hear you are hurt, but I'm glad the video helped. Good luck on your recovery! Thanks for commenting.
I really relate to this as well! I was really ready to begin serious training for this cycling season, but crashed mtn biking and am totally out of commission. This was after a winter of Covid and another bad illness (and an ankle sprain). I've really learned the art of patience, as the alternative is depression and rage.
So nice to see you back out there trail running/riding again man. The come back is real! 💪🏼
Thanks Marvin. This was the worst injury I have ever sustained. Kinda changed my outlook on a lot of things. Hopefully 2021 will be better and I can get back to form.

@@TrailSage Thanks. And as crazy as this sounds, i rather like the pain. Though it’s aggravating, i like 👍 it at the same time.
Ugh that sucks, Mui Tai is a tough discipline, but I like your attitude! I have made a full recovery and I wish the same for you.
@@TrailSage thank you sir. I will definitely be taking your advice into consideration

Thx Jim. Its crazy how fragile our bodies can be. One small mistake can really put you in a bad place.
I crashed today when slebbing. I probably broke or bruised my ribs. How does a broken rib feel ?

Oh snap! Sending positive healing vibes. Hope you make a full recovery!
Thank you for this video

Fractured my right anterolateral 9th rib Sunday night, doctor confirmed it on Tuesday.
That Tuesday night I said fk that, I’m gonna go by feeling. I went the gym the next day, to test my pain tolerance. So I went through my usual 15 minute warmup before I start any workout.

10 side leg swings👍
20- 12kg kettlebell swings👍

@@TrailSage Thanks TRAILSAGE. I've had so many broken or bruised ribs my whole life; I have 'em right now. Thx again for writing. Stay happy and healthy. ☺
@@m.hughes5198 Yikes. I wish you a speedy recovery then. If you are a runner or cyclist check out some of my other videos to help you pass the time ;)

If you go on a mostly meat based diet you won't crave junk food either and you'll get much more bioavailable protein and vitamins that your body is going to need to heal. So yeah going on a vegan diet with a broken rib is probably one of the dumbest things you can possibly do.
Cant you just give it a rest until your body has recovered?....i think its pretty dumb tbh
I suppose everyone is different Irene. I was just giving my personal account. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Thank you for the feedback.
Fuck that. I broke my ribs in mma, and after less than a full week at home I feel AWFUL.
It was only a month in that I FINALLY started to get consistent because I was addicted.
The months worth of progress I made in my fitness so far is NOT about to be undone by sitting around doing nothing!
Wanna know what else is interesting? When there’s no workout, it feels like there’s no incentive to eat clean. It’s all connected
@@shredgod6394 Excellent points Mark. There is also the benefits of increasing blood flow to help the healing process. I am a firm believer is staying active as well. Thank you for your comment and I hope you are doing well in your recovery process.
