oh, and one more question.. do you recommend getting on a birth control for bootcamp and stuff? i know they give you the option and i am tempted to take them up on it, but i heard there could be some negative side effects, like weight gain, etc.

I’m not in the navy yet. But i have taken birth control. It really regulates your period. Sometimes making them more painful. For some people even heavier a lot of people say that they only got their period maybe like once or not at all. But with birth control you would get your period on time every month including cramps so I would just say think about that especially if get bad cramps because either way , you’re still in bootcamp.

There are a lot of different types of birth control methods and each one can do different things to different people. I have heard about weight gain from taking the pill and the depo shot but also hear different birth control methods can clear up your skin and regulate your period. So it all is trial and error and seeing how you're body reacts to the method that you pick. Definitely ask your doctor and family or friends for help too and get more opinions, I personally take the pill and it helped with cramps and regulated my period a bit. I didn't notice any weight gain at all and I guess it may have helped clear my skin, but I think that was more age and a better skin care routine.

Are you going to constantly be out at sea bc of the virus with no port calls ? I’m joining and think this is a bad time to join .

So my ship is in port thankfully so, my 'deployment' feels a lot more like a Temporary Assignment Duty (TDA). But as far as the rest of the Navy ships are all handling COVID the best way they can and sadly I it has meant a lot less port calls from what I've seen, but I know in time once things get better, port calls will likely return to normal because they are a huge part of morale. So though your joining at a harder time it should pass quickly. When your in boot and training school, your life becomes really scheduled and it usually flies by. So hopefully somewhere in 2021 you'll be able to enjoy the more normal side of Navy life. And even with all the quarantines, COVID rules and changes its still basically the same Navy and you have to be able to adapt as best you can. It'll definitely be a different experience for you, but I wish you the best and hope things go smoothly for you. Also more then anything I hope for life before COVID restrictions to be back real soon!
