I chose to stay with the tourist visa rather than a retirement visa. The reason being that the retirement visa requires you to put 10 K USD (appoximately 15 K Cdn) in a Philippine bank and the only thing you can use it for is a down payment on a condo. That money is locked unless you change or visa or you are leaving the country and not returning. That is a large part of my saving and it is better left in my bank account in case of an emergency. In my late 60's I have no desire to buy a condo that I would have to make monthly payments to the bank and condo fees. I have no idea the exact amount that would be per month but I know it would be much higher than the rent I am paying here. One never knows when your time is up on this planet so I intend to keep my money for things I want to do and not leave it to a Philippine bank in the event of my untimely demise

Is it any wonder why the philippines' economy is so bad. This is why so many foreigners are leaving the philippines. It's all about paying more money to stay longer. So many foreigners are packing up and going to Thailand and Cambodia Mexico, etc, where it works out overall better on costs. Also better healthier food and hospitals in thailand. The Philippines government won't boost their economy by making it more difficult for foriegners to stay there long term. It will only distract foreigners from visiting and staying there that boost there economy.

The online reporting has 1 potential personal security flaw "I heard". While waiting online in the "green room" you are with 30 other people and they can see your full name.

I think Duterte’s admin authorized those additional fees, but each office decides whether to collect it or not. I heard not all offices do, just something to check out.
Hi Jenifer there is no 6 month extension visa now. The maximum is 2 months. 2 years ago it was 6 months. I'm from Poland maybe people from others countries still have 6months extension
Some people stay on tourist visa for 10 years because there is no other visa they can get. I still have 7 more years before I'm old enough to get SRRV. So until then it's consecutive 3 year 9A visas. If the BI wants me to get a different visa, they need to offer one.
They do offer one, you just need to deposit $20k USD into an approved Philippines bank account. You could then use that amount in the purchase of a condo here. If you’re under 50 years of age there’s an even more expensive option; the investment visa. So there are options for those not yet at retirement age. They are just not the most attractive options.
I do feel for you on that. The SRRV is only for individuals aged 50 and above. Other types of long-term visas require you to establish a business here, invest $75,000, or work locally. A foreign national with a remote job or consistent income from overseas is pretty much stuck on a tourist visa. We really should expand our visa options.

And online in your report.. You Will be paying 810 PhP... If you do a walking , it will cost 310 PhP..

When you get back to the Philippines, you will have to go to the BI office to do the annual check in, with your ACR card and passport, and pay the fee plus a fine. The fine is 200 peso/month, but no more the 2000 peso in a year, I'm also going to be late filing.

You can get it every time you arrive if you are a former filipino. If you are not you must arrive with your Filipino spouse. There is no time limit. You can come and go freely.

My end of year Tourist Visa extension, required 300 pesos for the Annual Report. I was confused as I was on a Tourist Visa, and I was told I had to just pay the 300 pesos because my stay has been over 1 year. I think the BI is just trying to pocket another 300 pesos from tourists. Getting sick of the BI consistent getting into our short with additional fees.

You need an expired passport, or an original birth certificate. Just arrive and present your proof of former Filipino citizenship and ask for balikbayan privilege.

No need to stress. You need to go in person for the next extension so you can also get the ACR/I card (needed if you are staying longer than 59 days). If your plan and intent is to enjoy more tourism you will have zero issues with the next extension.
Jennifer, Being a US foreigner, If I use the balikbayan privilege upon entrance to the Philippines with my wife, in which we plan she will have her dual citizenship by that time of entry, could a new balikbayan visa be issued or a previous one be renewed or extendid if we plan to go back and forth a few years before applying for a military srrv. Does that make sense? At some point I'd probably just get the srv, but starting out, if the baliknayan visa can just start over a second or multiple times like a tourist visa, that might be an advantage to a family trying to start out in the Philippines. It doesn't matter if she is a dual citizen or not. As long as you arrive together you can get the balikbayan privilege as often as you like. Come and go as you please!

You need to meet the requirements of a tourist when you arrive, including an onward or return ticket within 30 days or they can deny entry to the country. Enter as a tourist, then do your first 29 day extension (that one is called a Visa Waiver) online.
If you are a dual citizen you can just go home. If you want to remain British only you can go home for a year as a balikbayan but to stay as a permanent resident you'll want something like the SRRV... See srrvguide.com to explore that option.

I’m considering the SRRV as a good option. Given I have a good Retirement Income , over 50 yrs age ….is the PRA accredited bank deposit $10,000- and when does that have to be set-up ?? The website I looked at indicates $1400 application fee & annual $360- fee. Also, it states that the $10k needs to be transferred “in” prior to application. So I’m assuming you open a transaction account & then lodge the Bank “bond” if approved. Ask that how it works, and is it simple to open an account if you arrive as a tourist, as you would. ??
The SRRV Classic with Pension requires a 10k US visa deposit. It must be sent from a bank outside the Philippines to the PRA bank. You include a note saying it's to be held in trust for your SRRV (and your name and passport number). If you cancel they return it.
Before your first 30 days is up you can get the first 29 day extension (called a Visa waiver) online. The one after that is in-person because you'll need to get the ACR/I card

Here 5 years and still on tourist and married. Getting a 13a is a PITA and not that cheap either.
Every time I tried to extend online, it declined and forwarded me to their office. It didn't matter which extension.
If it's your first extension you need to select "Visa Waiver" **not** tourist visa extension.

Your first extension is called a Visa waiver and it can be done online. You'll just need to know the details on your passport.

Regarding the 1st Visa Extension, Do i need to make an appointment to the Immigration office or is it just walk in first come first serve ?

Before your first 30 days is up you can get the first 29 day extension (called a Visa waiver) online. The one after that is in-person because you'll need to get the ACR/I card
