It isn't being lazy. Sewing in strips is much more accurate than piecing 96 - 2.5 inch squares. I started on this last night and am strip piecing. It doesn't matter how you get there, the end result is what counts.
The pattern is great. But, IMO It makes more sense to sew the dark blue, white dark, blue strips together and subcut them and then sew a white, Center color, white strip and sub cut that and then just sew the three rows to make your 9 patches. Either way means nesting seams but it’s so much faster than sewing 9 separate 2.5” squares and you mitigate the possibility of mismatched seams.
oh yes I definitely recommend strip piecing and have done that for subsequent versions of this quilt! This was my first ever attempt at designing a quilt pattern and I just didn't think about strip piecing the first time! But I would definitely do it that way now!
Lovely quilt, but it seems you made yourself a lot more work than necessary...(by cutting your fabric into small squares then sewing) Try sewing two or 3 strips, cutting them, rearranging and sew!...It is a huge time saver. Love your channel!
I just found your channel and am so pleased! This little quilt is darling, and while I’ve been quilting for a long time, I have so benefited from getting to watch other people put quilts together. Thank you!!!
It is always a delightful surprise to find someone going to one of my favorite quilt stores (Honeybee). Your voice is easy to listen to, and your instructions are great. Keep up the excellent work.
I’m going to try to do 24 in 24 but I’m going to work on WIPS like you guys are doing. Starting with Lady of the Flag. Have to get it done now that all of the Shepherds Bush Christmas Stockings are finished shipped and opened up. I think I have enough WIPS to do all 24. I would like to do a few new starts. I’m headed to Texas to see my granddaughters. When I get home I will finalize my plans. I’m hoping to get to hit a stitching store while there. Love to see you both.
Thank you for sharing and being so generous. I have been quilting for 40 years and still need inspiration. I have a lot of scraps and even some squares cut that are the same colour that will work to make the quarter triangles. Best wishes from down under . Australia 🇦🇺
This is just beautiful! I LOVE the look of Square in a Square, but THIS way makes it SEW EASY! Nine patches are my absolute favorite, and I love them in these blue fabrics. (I think I would have strip quilted the nine patches.) I also love that the nine patches are not on point, but that it looks like an on-point quilt! I KNOW I'll be using this method many times in the future! So clever! Thank you, thank you for sharing! ❤
What a lovely tutorial, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. From start to finish you covered how to make it beautifully. great teacher, and many thanks. ❤
Great quilt! Your video popped up on my thread today, and I’m so glad that it did. I’m now a subscriber. I look forward both to catching up on your past videos and watching your new ones. Thank you, and Stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦😊
Liz...beautifully done quilt...I have on my bucket list to make a future baby quilt for each of my grandchildren.and then you film this....blessings to you for answering my prayers...Thank you so much❤❤❤❤❤
Everybody just loved the quilt!! Thank you so much for taking us along while you made that quilt. It looks pretty easy. I have always wanted to make a red and pink quilt and I think this might be the one for that.
What a great pattern. Looks like a square in a square with the nine patch blocks but it's coming from the hourglass turning it! Brilliant! Will make this for my quilt club's comfort program. Great video too!
Love love love this baby quilt! Thank you so much! This makes a perfect 3 yard quilt will give you fabric to add to your stash or other projects! Thank you so much!
I enjoyed your video so much. I actually sat and watched the entire thing. Usually I am sewing while I watch a tutorial video. You are an excellent teacher. You make it all look so easy. Thank you. I look forward to more.
I like your ideas on color and your, fabric choices were excellent! I enjoyed watching you sewI could tell it wasn’t your first quilt. It would have taken me weeks just to pick out the fabric. thanks fo r timing the whole project.
That quilt is just ADORABLE! You gave instructions very complete, I did not feel like you left questions un-answered. Love it! Really like the on point block look!
I’m so glad you used squares and not strips. I’m terrible at strip sewing. 😂 Thanks for the wonderful tut. I’m getting ready to make this for a friends third grandson. ❤
I can't believe it. My seams actually lined up! Never before have they ever. Thank you so much for providing all the little tips and tricks so I can understand and follow them!😊 Next I've always had trouble with bindings but you make it look so easy and the details are on point. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
So fun to keep track of the time! Love how neat and tiny your seam pressing is! And your seam joins are perfection! Loved seeing it be received... it is gorgeous!!
I really enjoyed the video and have learned a lot. You're a great teacher. My sister lives in Burnet. She has been quilting for years. She sews beautiful quilts. I have only been quilting for two years and have enjoyed it.
I really appreciate that you take your time and show us the block that we're working with. LOL it really helps knowing what we're doing. Many t h a n k s❤... just feeling your Channel love it
Really appreciate you taking your time to show us the block that we're supposed to be working on help us to know what we're doing LOL just found your channel really love it again thank you
Really beautiful quilt! And I learned a few tips on binding the corners with the tape and the sewing a few stitches in. Might have to watch. Exactly where you put the tape for the quarter inch again, but it’s a great idea
It was really hard to get a good angle on that but basically you want the center red line to be exactly even with the needle and then the black lines are a quarter inch away!
I bought the material for my first quilt, but really had no idea how everything went together correctly, but after watching your video I do! Great tutorial video! Thank you for sharing your techniques and methods of quilting!
Great job! This is a great pattern to use for childrens donation quilts. I definitely see myself making many in the future. Thank you for generously sharing!
That is simple too cute. I just love it. Love the colors, and you did a great job. I have to try this one for sure. Thank you so much. Have a great day.😊
Such a cute quilt and so generous of you to share it. I'm going to make one with gray/blue/white - I can't wait - the pattern is easy but you are right - looks like it is on point. Thanks so much! oh and I LOVE your sweater :) good job!
I am so lazy, I probably would have strip pieced the nine patches. Absolutely beautiful!
You totally could do it that way! I didn’t have a complete plan when I started so I didn’t think of piecing it that way!
I prefer to do strip sets.
It isn't being lazy. Sewing in strips is much more accurate than piecing 96 - 2.5 inch squares. I started on this last night and am strip piecing. It doesn't matter how you get there, the end result is what counts.
What would the measurements be to make strip sets.? Thanks. Love this quilt.
