      The diamond of your DC4 lasted for more than 10 years?? My diamond stones, last a bit more than common sandpaper lasts. How did you manage, to make it last so many years and not only for sharpening 4 or 5 knives? Any diamond plate I ever had, lasts way less, than I thought those plates last. Only ceramic lasts, almost like forever!! REally, how did you made it last so long?! Please

    • @Freakmaster480
      @Freakmaster480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@greekveteran2715 Buy quality plates and remember there is a breakin period where they will cut harder. That fades when the oversized and extra diamonds break or fall off. The plates come with too many diamonds on the surface and the extra ones are intended to fall off.

    The dc4 mod I did was I split the diamond from the ceramic so I have two parts then I cut a bit of belt leather to size and stuck it on the back of the diamond sharpener side now I have all three stages In one little pouch.

    @Dutch Bushcraft Knives
    Talking about cheap and easy hand sharpening...
    Today I recieved a simple and real cheap Lansky Turnbox. Four ceramic sharpening rods in two different grids, sharpening knifes in two different angles. And easy to use, even a beginner is able to do it.
    I just had time to sharpen three knifes, including my old and reliable Puma Automesser, a thick bar of steel with kind of three different grinds and a recurve blade.
    In no time the knife was razor sharp. OK, it's made out of 440 stainless, but I see it as the father of the Tops like tracker knifes, if you look at the shape.
    Only negative thing: the Turnbox is only able to do two edge angles - and only a V - edge. But if you use some simple tricks you get tought all over the internet, you are able to do more angles and achieve a convex edge as well.
    You have to do a review over the Lansky Turnbox, you have to! It's so easy, I feel it's the best system for a beginner - and it is only € 25,-- 35,--.
    Check it out now, thank me later.

    Is the ceramic side really +- 1 micron? That would be ~ 8000 JIS. When new the ceramic is very rough. But does it really become that fine? The older stones (with the brwon ceramic instead of dark grey) are said to be in a 6000 grit range. But I heard about complaints that the newer ones are much coarser.

    What wet stones should I have for 3V, elmax, cru wear (all bark rivers)? I have these steels and just starting out. I have a V4E and a K390 laminated in N690 on order from Dulo as well. Please advise and thanks. Never been good at sharpening

    Is the ceramic side of the Fällkniven DC521 comparable to the Spyderco medium ceramic bench stone please? Thank you.

      @DutchBushcraftKnives  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly I can't make the comparison. Maybe you can find a comparison on the internet with the dc4 and the spyderco. This is just a big version of the dc4

      Apparently the DC521 is 800 and 6000 grit (both figures seem too fine?) and aparently the Spyderco medium is 600 grit, but 600 seems far too coarse from what I've seen on TH-cam eg. OUTDOORS55. Wether the Spyderco double stuff is the same as one side of the medium bench stone I cannot find. DC521 or DCC vs. Spyderco medium I cannot find. As the DC521 and the Spyderco medium are similarly priced and are obvious contenders, might you consider being the first to make this comparison? More thanks, stay safe.

    • @jamessherburn
      @jamessherburn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Knivesandtools.co.uk say 600 to 1000 grit (too course?) for the Spyderco medium bench stone and for the Fällkniven DC521 600-1000 (again, surely too fine for the gold side? ... or is that after wearing in?) and1000-3000 for the ceramic side. ... There's oddly only a few Fällkniven reviews on TH-cam! Some professional experts : ) need to clarify things! Hopefully, JS.
      ps. If the DC521 can reprofile and then put a finer edge on, it has to be way better value than the Spyderco!
