To me, guided sharpening systems are another tool in the tool box. Often new knives come with messed up, uneven grinds that need fixing. Ill take the new knife, and regrind at the desired angle using an Edge Pro Apex. After the edge is set, I just use Naniwa chosera stones to sharpen. Works for me.

Not long after they said to really get it right you should buy the belt grinder attachment so the Ken onion will work better. All of a sudden you don't need any of that stuff, you need our Precision Adjust sharpener. This really is the one. But it wasn't so you spent mire money on 3d printed parts to fix all the flaws. well, It would be weird to buy all of them. And many systems dont replace one another. This is good for v edges where as the Belt grinding attachement is good for convex. They dont replace one another. If you want all and are willing to put effort into learning water stones are the way. If you want a sharp tool without a big learning curve these are very cost effective and good solutions
45 years ago I bought 'The Block' sharpener that I wear on a string around my neck. Made in the USA over 60 years ago. I'm surprised you have never heard of this. best sharpening device ever made carry it with me like a neck knife everywhere.
Worksharp has made videos showing the differences in how you stroke the stone across the knife. For best results you have to just do a single stoke straight down(like you did with the leather). It’s tedious, but it creates the sharpest edge. Sweeping from base to the tip of the knife would still sharpen, but didn’t cut very well. Going up and down vertically like Martin did is the best if you want to reprofile/remove a lot of material. imo most people do it that was because it’s the quickest way. I recommended going to worksharps channel if you want to see the experiments they ran.
@@DutchBushcraftKnives the three methods, pulling only towards yourself, pulling back and forth and stroking along the blade all produced sharp edges but very different edge profiles; 1st was a very smooth edge, 2nd was rougher and produced a more jagged edge (better at cord cutting etc) third was just alot longer but provided a good smooth edge (all under a microscope) but in the end the sharpness results were minimally different for the average person.
Great video guys! I have a Wicked Edge which is the holy grail of sharpeners but it’s ungodly expensive and is best for V-edged, you can do convex edges but you have to use leather strops and all this adds up, I have $1,400 invested in the damn thing which is ridiculous unless you are sharpening as a business. Great for all my folders, nothing better for re-profiling, you set the edge angle using a digital angle cube so it’s as accurate as it gets but I have two dozen Bark Rivers and all my other fixed blades are convex. I’m replacing my A2 barkies I bought 18 years ago with versions in CPM3V and need a faster way to restore the edges and I think this WorkSharp is the way to go.
So I have the original worksharp belt system, the Ken Onion version with the Blade grinding attachment, the guided lansky system, the spyderco sharpmaker and have just started getting into water stones and yet this looks so appealing! Tsprof Kadet pro begs to differ, especially with vanev stones. In all honesty tho, i had a worksharp and it did the job, just took alot longer then my current setup, and some edges came out wonky due to the movement from it. My current setup is stupid expensive and i wouldnt expect the avg knife sharpening guy to spend that kinda money. Works sharp def works but i like the tsprof alot more. If you want a tool like this that actually does do convex as well as V edge. The "Mad edge" and "Ts Prof" sharpening systems both have an additinal convex add on and are both a little more diverse. they also are easy to use for beginners and pro's alike.
I use thé convex attachment for my TSProf Kadet. I get a phenomenal edge that lasts longer than a V- edge. The versatility in the abrasive is a nice option too: 4” , 6”, backed or un backed, Venev, Hapstone, any brand you want you can use. Can’t recommend the Kadet enough.

Where do y’all get one? I have the older version and want to upgrade, but here in Germany I can’t find any shop who has the professional version already 😐
$300USD is a little steep compared to the regular version. I got an adapter to use the regular version with your own diamond plates so you don't need to use Worksharp's.
Same selling scheme they use every time they put out another sharper. People have boxes full of 1000s of dollars of these things collecting dust. 300 and I guarantee they start selling stuff to improve it. You could just get a kadet pro.
I really hope they make a stone holder that accepts high quality stones and diamond plates, and maybe a convex rod. The stone holder is a must now that they marketing it as a professional sharpening system and competing with some of them in price.
@@Jiross Yeah I know. But would be nice to have them make an official holder for the Professional version. As that was one of the main complaints from the small system and is expected from a Pro system priced at $300. But if WorkSharp doesn't want to make the money, someone else will and 3D print them for the new system.
That’s a cool sharpening system! I convex all my knives, so I’ll stick with water stones, but it’s really cool that V edge folks can have a system like that to make reliably sharp edges. Cool!
Actually all the WorkSharp does is convex edges, all belt grinders put a convex edge as the sandpaper belt wraps slightly around the edge of the blade putting that convex apple-seed shape on it.
I’ve used a fixed angle system for years, but have recently taken to freehand sharpening because it’s faster. It would be cool to see you guys review the worksharp guided sharpening system with upgrade kit as it is closer to freehand sharpening. and indeed can be used to freehand sharpen.
Ya this is similar to the Lansky Diamond set which does an ok job if you have a lot of time. If you want the best edge, bite the bullet and get a Tormek T8 or even T4.
I have the Problem on different Knives that the angle is the Same on both sides But the cutting bevel is always a Bit bigger on one side. Do you have a tip for me how i can Reduce that?
I used to own the Worksharp "Ken Onion Edition" before it was stolen by the people who worked for the last moving company I used.😠😐 It was automated/electric powered, and I still don't think it was as expensive as this! $300?! Whoa!! I will say that you can still sharpen scandi-grinds on kits like these. You just have to NOT clamp it in the vice so that you can hold it at the proper angle yourself.
would this work on a knife of extreme hardness like a custom dulo? I have naniwa super stones and even they take quite a bit to make a change i wonder if these would even touch the profile.
Try TS Prof Kadet sharpener. Ok I know it's russian but the quality is outstanding. TS Prof also gives you freedem of choice in types and sizes of grinding stones or diamond plates
Very similar to the Wicked Edge system. Wicked Edge is not cheap though, but you can go all the way down to glass film planers to get the most insane fine edge where strong larger carbide steels like Maxamet, K390, or Rex45 that would typically show chipping at these thin edges, can come out very uniform.
i own the original of this. great value for the original price. i also own AND prefer the Ken Onion worksharp belt sharpener system. takes around 5 minutes for a razor edge.
Worksharp forgot to make an actual case for this $299 sharpener, you just have to store it in the box it came with, I love that they addressed some people issues with the previous model but I won't buy without a case.
Would have been in the market for this, but I stumbled over a clone of the TSprof Kadet pro a month ago for a very nice price that was less than the worksharp pro.
i've come full circle going from 5-10 minutes on a 400-800 grit and strop to an adjustable angle sharpener to 3-4 naniwa/similar stones, back to 5-10 minutes on 400-800 and strop.
hi dbk, i want to buy myself a new knife. I was thinking about the Terävä Skrama 240, terävä Jääkärpuukko 140/110 or the gerber strongarm. I hope you could help me out and tell me which one i should buy. all the best from austria!
!!L T Wright Illumnious 5, CPM3V Scandi!! When are y’all going to do a video on this knife?:) or any or their knives? I think y’all love them. Or not, who knows? Who knows these things Love y’all, and y’all’s show
I own one .. Used it to re profile a Masakage Kumo 210mm chef knife .. it did produce a very Nice 17/20 degree shaving sharp edge .. that with a few light strokes on a White Ceramic rod . And 2 to 3 passes through a compressed Wool Rod .. has Been as close to Out of the Box edge .. which is hand sharpened in Japan .. .. I can achieve the same edge .. faster on my water stones .. Cost $300 .. ..but i have been sharpening knives for 40 plus years.. since Boy Scouts
i was actually going to comment on the horl video that there's no reason to get that gimmicky garbage over a worksharp precision adjust elite or professional. And now here we are. I bought a worksharp ken onion elite sharpener because of you folks using your code. The thing is the best sharpener a hobbiest could ask for imo. I sharpened all my edc and kitchen knives in one day in a fraction of the time i would have been able to do with a japanese wetstone. Some of my kitchen knives were as dull as a butter knife with no serrations.....even though it was supposed to be a steak knife and the ken onion put a secondary bevel on there and had it hair popping sharp in less than 10 minutes.
Why don't you guys test the Chris's Reve folders vs the fix blade you'll did test and please test the wardhog sharpener from South Africa it's really good for a really cheap price

@@Jiross Yeah I know. But would be nice to have them make an official holder for the Professional version. As that was one of the main complaints from the small system and is expected from a Pro system priced at $300. But if WorkSharp doesn't want to make the money, someone else will and 3D print them for the new system.
Can any of you tell me where I can get hold of this model of knife? Steel Eagle 107C Delta Class
Hows this work on big knives like 10 plus inchs
Helping out the algorithm sirs
You are thanked 🫡
Yeah the best sharpening ever.. try with cpm s125v and cpm rex121.. next camping throwing at drawers.. free hand all day the best!
Can i sharpen scandi grind with something like that?
Mikkie's leather jock strap!
This compared to the Ken Onion edition?
That’s a cool sharpening system! I convex all my knives, so I’ll stick with water stones, but it’s really cool that V edge folks can have a system like that to make reliably sharp edges. Cool!
Actually all the WorkSharp does is convex edges, all belt grinders put a convex edge as the sandpaper belt wraps slightly around the edge of the blade putting that convex apple-seed shape on it.
@@ZootyZoFo Oh yeahhh. Great point! I think I still have the Ken Onion on my wishlist. I should invest! 🤓😍
Nice work boys
would this work on a knife of extreme hardness like a custom dulo? I have naniwa super stones and even they take quite a bit to make a change i wonder if these would even touch the profile.
I have a DBK MINI by dulo
Try TS Prof Kadet sharpener. Ok I know it's russian but the quality is outstanding. TS Prof also gives you freedem of choice in types and sizes of grinding stones or diamond plates
Very similar to the Wicked Edge system. Wicked Edge is not cheap though, but you can go all the way down to glass film planers to get the most insane fine edge where strong larger carbide steels like Maxamet, K390, or Rex45 that would typically show chipping at these thin edges, can come out very uniform.
What time does DBK knives go on to website each day?
This should get you 2 out of the stone age. Trails Happy
Hi guys! A curved guide rod should produce your convex edge.
i own the original of this. great value for the original price. i also own AND prefer the Ken Onion worksharp belt sharpener system. takes around 5 minutes for a razor edge.
What time does the DBK knife 🔪 come online every day?
How well does that fit in my backpack?
Thats sharp 😮
Worksharp forgot to make an actual case for this $299 sharpener, you just have to store it in the box it came with, I love that they addressed some people issues with the previous model but I won't buy without a case.
Would have been in the market for this, but I stumbled over a clone of the TSprof Kadet pro a month ago for a very nice price that was less than the worksharp pro.
i've come full circle going from 5-10 minutes on a 400-800 grit and strop to an adjustable angle sharpener to 3-4 naniwa/similar stones, back to 5-10 minutes on 400-800 and strop.
Would love to see your view of the boker vigtig.
hi dbk, i want to buy myself a new knife. I was thinking about the Terävä Skrama 240, terävä Jääkärpuukko 140/110 or the gerber strongarm. I hope you could help me out and tell me which one i should buy. all the best from austria!
Definitely go with the skrama jaakaripuukko combi
Im really looking into this. The number of knives i have to sharpen costs more than the system.
Nice but would like to see a comparison between other knife sharpeners.
Died with the jokes 😂
But on a technical note, you can get good results even having no experience with sharpening with the Lansky deluxe system
I would use it to refresh.❤ come on you two. You are not going to get some things without skill.
!!L T Wright Illumnious 5, CPM3V Scandi!!
When are y’all going to do a video on this knife?:) or any or their knives?
I think y’all love them.
Or not, who knows?
Who knows these things
Love y’all, and y’all’s show
I own one ..
I want to know how sharp Gerard can get a knife using a stone and only being allowed to watch your sharpening videos
i was actually going to comment on the horl video that there's no reason to get that gimmicky garbage over a worksharp precision adjust elite or professional.
What code for the Ken Onion? "DBK"?
Why don't you guys test the Chris's Reve folders vs the fix blade you'll did test and please test the wardhog sharpener from South Africa it's really good for a really cheap price
Great video! Can you guys review a carbon steel knife from Grohmann? Maybe the original or the Canadian miltary issue model?
